Josef Čapek's Early Literary Work in the Context of Modern Art

Josef Čapek belonged among those Czech artists who dealt with problems of form and function of a modern art work in the beginning of 20th century. Both theoretical reflections on art and his early fiction represent Čapek's specific approach to the debate about modern and avant-garde currents in the times of stylistically inconsistent situation. This thesis analyses the confrontation of aesthetic principles of these art movements. Its focus is to show to what extent was Josef Čapek influenced by the principles of the individual movements and to describe the way in which he acquired and modified them. Architecture of Prague's Financional Institutions in the European Context

The diploma thesis deals with architecture of financial institutions in Prague - banks, savings banks and insurance companies - from the middle of the 19th century (when the first representative headquarters of financial institution in Prague was built) to 1939. The research of the thesis is focused on territory of Prague New Town, which is included in town area of Prague 1, where the highest concentration of these financial buildings was in whole research period. The diploma thesis will register and interpret individual headquarters of financial institution in Prague in historical, economic and political context within the Czech lands and the Habsburg monarchy, then also within the Czechoslovak Republic; and in the context of urban and wider architectural development in Prague and Europe too. Problems of a musical work in musical poetics 20th century

The thesis focuses on issues of musical works in musical poetics of Arnold Schönberg and Igor Stravinsky. Due to the changes music was undergoing in the 20th century, the matter of musical works was very problematic. The goal of this thesis is to introduce the key moments in the authors' thinking and their creation of music. The work then presents a reflection on these key moments through the writings of F. Herzfeld, H. H. Stuckenschmidt and M. S. Druskin. The final comparison should familiarize the reader with Schönberger's and Stravinsky's insight on the categories important for the search for the new form of musical artworks in the 20th century. An important part of this work is dedicated to show the link between the authors' lives and their work; to show which life conditions they originated from and how their life experiences influenced their thinking. Presumptions of the Formation of the modern Men's Suit (General and unique in the typology and in the formation of men's court, military and ecclesiastical clothes in the light written, iconographical and material sources in Czech countries of early new ages at the court of the Austrian Habsburgs in the frame of the European culture of clothing)

v anglickém jazyce The dissertation thesis with title "Presumptions of the formation of the modern men's suit" elaborates the general and unique features in the typology of men's court, military and ecclesiastical clothes. Research, which is based on written, iconographical and material sources, is aimed at environment at the court of the Austrian Habsburgs in early new ages from the end of the 15th century till beginning of the 90s of the 18th century having respect to history of clothing in the in Czech countries in the context with European clothing culture. The conception of the thesis goes out from the approach to men's suit in the history of clothing as to the cultural discipline. The main theoretic-metodological basis is investigsation of the general and the unique features in the concrete types of the men's clothing, which are characterized most of all of the contemporary construction (cut), material (cloth) and colours of the men's clothing and which has got the style-forming importance by means of these general features. The results of the research work amplifies not only the knowledge in the area of the clothing history, but also brings the possibility of practical application of this knowledge to increase of the cultural values of written, iconographical and material memories with time,...
Bohumil Hypšman - The modern architect in historical town

(in English): This bachelor's thesis analyses five selected works by architect Bohumil Hypšman. The mail goal is to identify the architect's approach when designing buildings within historical center of Prague. The first two chapters summarize the architect's life body of work in general. Then selected projects are described in detail. First two buildings, Funeral house of fraternity Cherva Kadiša in Josefov and apartment house Matějovského on Národní třída street, are from the same era (1910 - 1912) and both serve as rental housing. However, they are located in very different urban settings. This thesis compares and contrasts these two buildings. This analysis is based on factors such as location, buildings design and features typical for the same time period. Next chapter is devoted to Plodinová burza outhouse on Senovážné Square (1928 - 1929). This serves as an example of Hypšman approach to similar outhouses to historical buildings. Large portion of the thesis deals with Hypšman's and Antonín Engel's Petrské enbankment settlement proposal. This grand urban project from the twenties still remains unfinished.
