Behaviour towards the dying
Puková, Hana ; Lorman, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Sládek, Karel (referee)
Dead is a part of our human life. Even in the old days human was asking questions about himself: "Who am I? Where do I come from? Where do I go?" And last but not least understood his mortality. Dying is a part of life. It is a period for a human, when everything finishes. When is he really dead though? Is it really the moment when his heart beat and blood circulation stops and he stops breathing? Or is he dead for the others in the moment of his hard illness? A view of a patient trying to add Christian view, ie the possibility of seeking hope in a desperate situation that exceeds our life and dead. The aim of the thesis is to point out an adequate behaviour to a dying human being.
Philosophy as Passionate Interest
Strobachová, Ingrid ; Pinc, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Haškovcová, Helena (referee) ; Hogenová, Anna (referee)
The purpose of my dissertation is to analyze and further elaborate upon its main topic: the questions that are of a mutual deep interest to both medicine and philosophy. The dissertation has three parts. In the first part, I will introduce some of the key terms that will be used throughout the text. The second part, central to my work, is concerned with three possibilities that are offered to us - play and playing, dream and dreaming, poetic being - all become the places where comprehending, listening (to both the speech and the silence) and responding materialize. Playing, dreaming, poetic being - each offers our daily reality the beauty of transcending its borders without destroying them; in fact, they become a free spirited, passionate interest that enhances and makes valuable the ordinariness and finiteness of our daily lives. Freedom and Responsibility; I and the Other Person; Illness and Hope - each having its physical aspect and each being considered through the dimensions of seriousness and unseriousness, reason and unreason - will be rethought through playing, dreaming and poetic being, providing new insights of an engaged, passionate practice of philosophy and medicine. The third part, concerned with application on the two areas - I, the Child, and the Parenthood; and the Therapist and...
The issue of care for children with MCAP syndrome.
PŘÍPLATOVÁ, Iveta
For most of the people MCAP syndrome is an unknown term. It is actually an illness, where the gene is changed for unknown reasons, leading to macrocephaly and capillary malformations. The syndrome entails its own symptoms and complications, which are the focus of this paper and which are described below. The goal of the thesis was to find out the specifics of care for children with MCAP syndrome. Interviews and observations were conducted with two families of children with this syndrome. The interviews were made with the mothers of the children. The results of the interviews and observations are outlined in the text, which is divided into two parts. The life of the child, from birth to present day, is described in the first part of the text. All symptoms, signs and complications are also included in this part. The second part of the text deals with collection of data according to the model of Virginia Henderson. The result shows that even though some of the children's symptoms are mutual for both of them, every child is born also with different symptoms. Therefore every child is unique. The interviews showed that no one in the Czech Republic has ever had the experience with this syndrome and the level of awareness of the syndrome among the health care stuff is very small or none at all. There is also no Czech literature published on this topic in the Czech Republic. There can only be found foreign articles written in English language that are not intelligible for a big part of the population. This thesis can be a helpful manual for some other families that give birth to a child with this syndrome and it can further help to spread information of the illness also to all readers, who are interested in this topic. That is also the reason, why the article on the topic of MCAP syndrome is going to be published in a professional journal.
Social consequences of disease
LEITKEPOVÁ, Květa
The effort of this bachelor thesis was to clarify the way how social consequences of an illness in a family with an unprovided child emerge, and to find out whether there is a possibility of prevention. The terms of health and illness were defined. The thesis deals with the meaning of familyx and its historical context in a wider sense. The reason was to point to the serious status of the family during an illness. Basic faily functions were introduced and their effect on its members. The uniqueness of family within the assurance system and help throughout an unfavourable life situation have been succesfully confirmed. The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis has been supported by practice experience summed up in case studies. Individual cases were randomly picked connected to mothers´ interest to participate in the contents of this thesis, and their need to share their experience. They want to help people who suddenly find themseves in a similar situation. The thesis includes a knowledge of a wider family importance, which is being underestimated these days, and the thesis may serve as a source for understanding family relations during a period of illness and social consequences of the illness on the family.
Construction of the image of tuberculosis and its impact on disease management
Bičíková, Kateřina ; Čada, Karel (advisor) ; Kotík, Michal (referee)
Tuberculosis is a disease accompanied by a number of negative emotional connotations, which make it difficult for the patient to deal with the illness. With the help of a qualitative media analysis and in-depth interviews with patients we found that a person ill with tuberculosis today in the Czech Republic is faced with both remainders of the historical image of the illness as well as its new images. Tuberculosis is in both cases defined as a problem which the major society is not involved in. This is for one reason because it is often mentioned in historical circumstances, which associates long gone history, and for the second reason as it is presented as a disease of socially excluded individuals living on the edge of society, who are perceived negatively by society in general. People infected with tuberculosis are therefore stigmatized and disqualified because the disease they are ill with is today perceived as something unacceptable and improper.
