Phenomenon of Music. Music in context of fundamental motives of Heidegger's early thinking
Výravský, Vojtěch ; Benyovszky, Ladislav (advisor) ; Novotný, Jaroslav (referee)
The thesis is an attempt to put the topic of music into context of Martin Heidegger's early and partially middle thinking. It proceeds mainly from two impulses: firstly from Heidegger's claim of overcoming the aesthetical, i.e. the metaphysical conception of the work of art, secondly from the big question mark above the empty space through which is the music in Heidegger's penetrating thinking of the essence of art present. In the first part the thesis shows reasons, why is Heidegger calling for the overcoming of the aesthetics, and tries to show the hidden assumptions in which the aesthetics always moves and which darken the original attitude to the work of art which means also to the music. We shows mainly three of them: the scheme of subject and object, the scheme of form and matter and approaching the work of art as an object (Gegenstand) of presentation (Vorstellung). In the second part of the thesis we are attempting to overcoming this schemes through the way of phenomenological revealing of the essential structures of music. An important clue to this is the phenomenon of touch. This leads to the comprehension of music as the manner of "Being-in-the-world" which is constituted by three moments: attunement (Stimmung), understanding and discourse (Rede). Thus shows music itself as an...
Gut microbiota effect on neuropsychiatric diseases
Pospíšil, Vít ; Kostovčíková, Klára (advisor) ; Červená, Kateřina (referee)
The intestinal microbiome is formed by trillions of microorganisms that accompany us throughout our lives. Commensal gut microorganisms, as a complex system, interfere with diet processing and subsequent spectrum of released metabolites, which are involved in communication with other systems of the human body. Recently, a link between intestinal microbiota dysbiosis and activation of the immune response has begun to emerge. This pathophysiological condition is associated with the loosening of the tight junctions of the gut epithelial barrier, which could together with prolonged immune inflammation lead to what is known as irritable bowel syndrome. This disease is not only related to symptoms associated with bowel discomfort, but also to effects on afferent nerve endings. This connection has been called as the gut-brain axis and became the link between the gut microbiota and psychiatric diseases. This work is summing up the actual knowledge on this topic and offers a comprehensive overview of the subject from both an immunological and a microbiological point of view. Key words: gut-brain axis, depression, anxiety, antibiotics, antidepressants, probiotics, IBS
Impact of light on cognition and mood
Křivohlavá, Tereza ; Bendová, Zdeňka (advisor) ; Růžička, Jiří (referee)
Circadian rhythms are cyclically repeating biorhythms with an approximate period of 24 hours. The main circadian pacemaker located in the suprachiasmatic nuclei in the hypothalamus controls the correct timing of physiological processes and behaviors and works to synchronize the whole body into a single period. The circadian clock works correctly if the period and phase are adjusted daily by environmental stimuli consistent with the solar cycle. The alternation of light and dark is the primary synchronizer of circadian rhythms and one that people mostly do not adhere nowadays. At nighttime they are usually exposed to strong lights while during the daytime they spend many hours in a dark room without receiving enough (sun)light. This disruption of biological and environmental clocks causes the desynchronization of the organism and the periodic misalignment of physiological or mental processes in the body. Long lasting desynchronization could have a serious impact on the human body, including emotions and cognitive functions.
Impact of investors' mood on European stock markets
Rosol, Jaroslav ; Kočenda, Evžen (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
This thesis investigates into relationship of mood and stock markets. As proxies for mood we selected Daylight Savings Time changes, Lunar cycles and football results. Any abnormal returns on related days would present a challenge for Efficient Markets Hypothesis. We examine stock returns on corresponding days using up-to-date daily data of European All Share indices and analyse them us- ing ARMA-GARCH model. Our results for Daylight Savings Time change are neither uniform nor statistically significant with one exception. Even though results for Lunar cycles mostly follow expected positive relationship, they also lack statistical significance. For France and Croatia we find statistically signif- icant negative relationship between wins of national teams and stock returns, which goes against our expectations and previous research. Statistically sig- nificant negative relationship is expected for days after losses and potential elimination of national teams from competition as we confirmed for Croatia and Italy.
