Labour mobility: an emerging trend of intra-EU workforce migration to Central and Eastern European countries from the Western member states
Medal, Ondřej ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
1 Abstract Intra-EU labour mobility is perceived as one of the key advantages of the European common market. Most research thus far has focused on East-West flows of the workforce, whilst the reverse course remained almost unseen. Thus, this thesis aimed to evaluate the migrating workforce from EU-15 to CEE, which was demonstrated in the example of the Czech Republic. With the testing of Wallerstein's world-system theory and the push and pull migration factors, the thesis examined employment features of the EU-15 nationals, their labour mobility drivers, and the concept of Prague as a global city. The empirical data were gathered from EU databases of intra-EU mobility, Czech national statistics, and a structured survey of EU-15 nationals residing in the Czech Republic. The survey gathered 177 answers with results of a confidence level of 95% that the actual value is within 10% of the measured value. The research outcomes were then used for elaborating on the core-periphery dynamics and the West-East dichotomy. Overall, the findings suggest that this trend is emerging as the number of EU-15 nationals in the Czech Republic has risen by 212,13% since 1994. Moreover, it consists largely of knowledge workers, as almost three out of every four people have completed tertiary education. The most determining labour...

Kubíčková, Iveta ; Barák, Vladimír (advisor) ; Prudká, Šárka (referee)
The bachelor thesis provides a comprehensive insight into the issue of mobility of Czech citizens within the European Union. The theoretical part deals with basic theoretical approaches to migration, the brief development of the European Union's common migration policy and employment policy, including the current instruments supporting labour migration and the legal definition of free movement of workers. Kaczor, Pavel ; Macáková, Libuše (advisor) ; Breňová, Lubomíra (referee) ; Hazuka, Ladislav (referee)
The main subject of this project is the international migration of the labour force. There are two questions which it responds to. The first one: Is it necessary for the Czech labour market to use the foreigners (immigrants) labour force? The second one: Is there a risk of abnormal work emigration and shortage of the Czech national labour force as a result of it? The first part of this project describes current situation at the Czech labour market, potential impacts of the shortage of the labour force and the main factors that are able to improve the situation at the labour market. There are particular analysis in the second part of this project. The object of them are the migration differences among EU countries as same as the imigration and emigration flows of the labour force. One marginalized but very important migration factor is mentioned in the part 8. This is related to differences in child benefits in EU countries. In the part 9 I realized my own empirical survey. It is concentrated on the work migration and migration motives in three various regions in the Czech republic. The result of this dissertation is: 1) The work imigration to the Czech republic is necessary and adequate. 2) The work emigration of the Czech labour force is marginal and not dangerous for the Czech firms and Czech labour market.
Interregional Movement of Labour-Force (specified for the Region of South Bohemia)
ŠVECOVÁ, Jitka
The bachelor dissertation deals with the interregional movement of labour-force between the Region of South Bohemia and surrounding regions. The theoretical framework outlines the main definitions of the labour market, unemployment, labour policy, and the labour-force movement. The first chapter of the practical part describes the situation on the Czech labour market through the development of employment, unemployment and legislation. The following chapter deals with the movement within the Czech Republic, divided into the outland and inland movement. In order to approximate the researched areas, the individual regions concerned are characterised. The eventual calculations of the labour-force movement amongst regions have been gained from the measurement of the movement by means of indicators (migration balance, migration turnover and migration efficiency). The development of commuting and driving to work has been expressed through the balance. The migration data follow the period of 2001-2007. The data concerning commuting and driving to work are followed in 1991-2001. The last chapter of the practical part deals with outlining the elements that affect the labour-force movement.
