Charity as the fundamental characteristic of the Christian behaviour. New Testamental perspective

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of "Mercy from the point of view of the New Testament". By the method of analysis of each relevant pericope - from the canonical Gospels and the letters of the Apostles Paul and James - and by pointing out the importance of the theme in the teaching of the last three Popes, the aim of this thesis is to highlight the importance and urgency of mercy in the context of present complex and turbulent times. The thesis tries to demonstrate that mercy among men is asked for by God the Creator himself and by his Son the Redeemer and Saviour. Closely related to mercy are the themes of forgiveness, grace, love and justice. Mercy is a fundamental characteristic of God's action and remains an imperative for action among men here on earth. The future on this earth is strongly dependent on upholding the values that mercy brings with it. Seven Corporal Works of Mercy and Seven Deadly Sins in Czech Medieval Arts

The bachelor's thesis will deal with the theme of the seven-corporal works of mercy and the seven deadly sins in Czech fine art. These opposing themes develop primarily in a middle-class environment, where they were supposed to appeal to the moral life of the middle-class people. The first part of this thesis will discuss the development of the doctrine of the seven deadly sins in the Middle Ages. The variability of approaches to the seven sins will also be revealed by a comparison with the development of the doctrine of the virtues, where it is also possible to show the starting points for the formation of the medieval teaching on the seven-corporal works of mercy. The second part deals with the analysis of individual sins and acts of mercy, their meaning, and the way they are depicted. In the third part, I will also focus on individual examples of the depiction of this iconography in European art, and we will mention a few important works, especially from the High and Late Middle Ages. Following on from European art, the last chapters will focus on individual examples of the seven-corporal works of mercy and the seven deadly sins in the Czech environment, especially in the book painting and monumental mural.

The Lost and the Found as the Image of God's Love: Luk 15

This B.A. thesis 'Lost and Found as a symbol of God's Love: Lk 15' is focused on the interpretation of the 15th chapter of the Gospel of Luke, i.e. of the parables of the Lost Sheep, of the Lost Coin and of the Prodigal Son. Its aim is to reflect on the essence of God's love as expressed in these three parables. The first part describes the general information concerning Luke's Gospel, the second explains a genre of parable on a general level, the third describes the common framework of the three parables and the remaining sections are focused on the particular parables in detail. The largest space is devoted to the Parable of the Prodigal Son, which is split into three main sections according to main characters. Bachelor's thesis "Theological and ethical accents at Sirach" had the task of finding out what are the most important theological and moral emphases in deutoronomy book of Sirach. By studying and thorough reading was has been detected theological accents like the glory and greatness of God, characteristics of God and his creative actions. Other theological accents was been detected the living in the fear and obedience of God and the appearance and action of Wisdom. Wisdom appears in the book as a person and also as a special species God's gift within man. These two divine gifts act in a person identically and mutually and grow up both in one. From another point of view ethical accents are for Sirach honest and truthful behavior in various aspects of human life. Another ethical aspect is cultivation of interpersonal relationships especially family and friendly. These theological and ethical accents in Sirach I opened with the help of different interpretations of the Bible, professional literature and theological dictionaries. Neighbour in the parables of Luke as motivation for social work with seriously mentally impaired persons

The present thesis connects two areas of studies: social work and theology. It gathers findings gained in social work targeted to people with mental handicap (with special focus on those with heavy forms of mental handicap), findings from socio-psychological studies of human motivation, and from theological analysis of the Gospel of Luke and its parables, and subsequently it endeavours to interconnect these findings. It pursues therein the question of utilising theological knowledge in forming motivation for engagement in social work. The focusing element of this interdisciplinary thesis is the theologically profiled concept of neighbour, which is eventually brought into relation with motivation to perform social work with the mentioned focus group.

The Image of God's Justice in the Parable of the Workers in Vineyard

The Image of God's Justice in the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard The parable about the workers in the vineyard from the Gospel of Matthew depicts the contrast between human and Godly conception of justice. The subject of the thesis is a comparison of the picture given in this parable by Jesus about the God's justice with the Old Testament picture of the Lord as the righteous God. Following a short initial characteristic of the Gospel of Matthew the thesis deals at first with the common interpretation of the conception of a parable. Then the survey of the exegesis of the parable itself is given, both by Church Fathers and by modern authors. The fourth chapter aims at the concept of justice in the Scripture of both the New and the Old Testaments, with a short discursion into the contemporary Graeco-Roman cultural world. The conclusion deduces that the picture of the God's justice inseparable from grace, given by Jesus, is more likely a consistent elaboration of the Old Testament texts than some completely new and revolutionary idea. Main aim of this thesis is to find out and refer to the importance of service as it is proclaimed in the Old and New Testament and how was the concept of service changing in time. First part deals with definitions of service and its meaning in four texts of the Book of Isaiah. Second part studies the importance of service in the Gospels, Acts of the Apostles and Epistles. The thesis describes Christ, who was dedicated to service, and his Mother Mary, the Servant of God. Some of the parables in New Testament also deals with service. It introduces three saint women of last millenium and their attitude, by which they followed Christ. The last part of the thesis focuses on importance of service in helping professions from the theological perspective.

The sacrament of marriage in contemporary theology

The thesis, on the background of biblical and historical origins, gathers some of the present theological views, formed in particular by the papal documents that commend on marriage. It emphasizes the essential elements of this sacrament, with regards to their comprehensibility to the present recipients. It also deals with the problematic situations arising after the disintegration of the sacramental bond, and mentions possible approaches to addressing the issue of birth control. It also reflects some of the critical views and compares them with the Church's current teaching, in order to indicate the desirable plurality of views containing the potential for future solutions to the conflicts that have arisen. Specific attention is paid to the integration of Catholic Christians living in illegitimate relationships into full communion with the Church and the resulting tasks of particular Catholic communities.
