The Life Story Of A Person With Visual Impairment And His Family
KOTKOVÁ, Markéta
The present thesis deals with the subjective perception of one's own life situation and life story of an adult with visual impairment and cerebral palsy. Person is perceived in the context of his entire family, and so the accounts of other family members are also integral. The aim of this thesis is to detail the life of an adult individual through the eyes of several generations of his family. The sub-questions are a closer specification of the main research question. To achieve the aim, narrative interviews were analysed with the individual with a disability himself, his parents, grandmother, sister and niece. The narrative interviews allowed us to capture in more detail the subjective experiences of each family member. In the theoretical part, the visual impairment and cerebral palsy are briefly described. Furthermore, the thesis focuses on the specifics resulting from visual impairment in relation to the individual's personality. Another important chapter is the family with a child with a disability, which undoubtedly has a great influence on the individual. The loneliness that accompanies a person with a disability is an integral part of the overall conception of the question we have set out. Disability is part of society. Previously, or rather before 1989, this was not the case. It was not very common to meet individuals with any disability. For today's society, this fact may seem somewhat unimaginable. The thesis gives an insight into a time when the possibilities, approaches and overall view of a family with an individual with a disability were from the very beginning completely different than they are today. The results of the research investigation point to the influence of the lack of support at that time, which may have had some impact not only on the individual but also on the family's present. The data collected for this thesis can be used as teaching material for degree programs that prepare students for their future helping profession. Furthermore, they can be beneficial to families who are in similar situations.

"Every man's work, whether it be literature, or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself." (Butler) The aim of this thesis is to put forward the importance of the author behind the book and to see clearly the effect of an author's life upon his work. The theme in focus is loneliness. This theme is to be analyzed in a dual manner. Firstly as an account of Steinbeck's own experience of loneliness. This master thesis is in theoretical part focusing on the term of self-regulation according to Albert Bandura's theory (1991) and its domains of self-monitoring, self-judgement and self-reaction. Next we define its stand against terms such as addiction and habit, in case of low ability of one's regulation. Thanks to analysis of mainly foreign resources we oriented the work to explanation of relationship between self-regulation and loneliness and life satisfaction. These resources are chosen for their historical consistency and contemporary application, especially in domains of media and online environment. In empirical segment of thesis we are proposing our own questionnaire measuring our ability to self-regulate Facebook usage (SRQ-FB), inspired by original theory of Brown et al. (1999) and Czech translation of their questionnaire, translated and tested by Jakešová et al. (2015). Next we tested hypotheses based on assumption of relationship existence between score of our questionnaire (SRQ-FB) and score of loneliness (measured by UCLA Loneliness Scale; Russell et al., 1980) and life satisfaction score (SWLS - Satisfaction With Life Scale; Diener et al., 1984). The first is Túnel written by Ernesto Sábato and the second is Aura by Carlos Fuentes. The initial part of my work briefly summarises the life and principal works of these writers. The following section tries to describe theoretically the literary characters and offers a few possible reasons for their division. The practical part is occupied by analysis of the characters and divides them by using methods which were described in theoretical part. In Túnel, the focus is on the main characters of the novel and the evolution of their relationship. In Aura, the primary focus is on the fantastic transformation of the characters. In the final section, my work offers a summary of several common and different traits of the characters appearing in both novels.
How elderly people cope with loneliness: comparative study of coping strategies
Hottková, Lucie ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Hasmanová Marhánková, Jaroslava (referee)
This masters's thesis focuses on coping strategies elderly people use to cope with their loneliness. The thesis uses twenty semi-structured interviews with the elderly living in nursery home and community-dwelling elderly, which are then compared. Theoretically the thesis is based on Robert Weiss's typology of social and emotional loneliness and the current knowledge of the relationship between health and loneliness and coping strategies. The major results are that experiencing loneliness does not differ between the two selected groups, which contradicts the conclusions of previous research and that health was an important aspect in both groups. Further the thesis concludes that no relationship was found between the number of coping strategies the elderly use and their loneliness. Loneliness of the elderly in relation to the concept of coping strategies, in addition with comparassion of the elderly living in nursery home and community-dwelling elderly, is not greatly discussed topic in the Czech Republic. Thus, the master's thesis constibutes to the discussion within the Czech context on the coping strategies the elderly people use to cope with their loneliness and the differences or similarities between the two selected groups.
