Implementation of listening techniques into a primary school classroom

This thesis deals with the matter of listening skill as part of the communication key competence. The author does not target situations when the pupil listens to the teacher's speech, but situations when the elementary school classmates listen to each other. It is based on a long-term scientific discourse on the subject. The aim of this thesis is to first theoretically present the communication activity of listening as a fairly demanding process which, although requiring the same amount of attention and training as other communication activities, has been quite neglected on a global scale in the school curriculum. At the same time, the theoretical section puts forward specific proposals on how the listening skill of the elementary-school class collective can be supported and developed. The practical part, pedagogical action research, is based on theoretical knowledge. It aims to observe progress in communication focusing on listening skills between third-grade pupils, in a class where the author acts as a teacher's assistant. In total three periods of action research maintain a cyclical pattern of problem decsription, action plan, action and analysis. Argumentation Skills of Lower Secondary School Students in the Field of Current Environmental Topics

Argumentative skills are essential for conducting an effective discussion both in professional and personal life. In schools, these skills should be developed as part of the development of the key competence of communication. A greater number of suitable topics for discussion are offered in each subject. The aim of this work was to map the ability to formulate arguments on current environmental topics among pupils of the second grade of primary school. More precisely, it was the topic of ecological projects and the topic of reducing emissions. For this purpose, a worksheet with two complex tasks was created, which was completed by a total of 262 pupils. Student arguments were evaluated in terms of frequency, ad rem validity, relevance to the given topic and factual correctness. Pupils' ability to formulate arguments turned out to be poorly developed, however, it was found that the year of study and the attitude have an effect on the ad rem validity, relevance and factual correctness, only the year has an effect on the number of arguments, no effect was shown for the attitude. In order for argumentation skills to develop, it is desirable that special attention be paid to them in teaching.

Students' Argumentation Skills in the Topic of Tick-borne Diseases

ABSTRACK We consider argumentation skills to be a necessary attribute of effective communication in the present day for full application in both personal and social life. For this reason, these abilities are purposefully incorporated into education at primary and upper primary schools in the form of a key communicative competence. Pupils' argumentation skills can be developed through targeted teaching activities on appropriately chosen topics that encourage discussion. The purpose of this work was to map the skills of formulating one's own arguments in the topic of tick-borne diseases and the possibilities of their prevention among pupils in upper primary school. For this purpose, a complex task was constructed and presented to 369 pupils. Pupils' formulated arguments were evaluated according to their frequency, effectiveness and factual correctness. The pupils' argumentation skills were shown to be at a low level. It was found that the pupils' arguments were influenced by the grade and their personal attitude towards the topic under consideration. For the effective cultivation of this skill, we consider it desirable to pay systematic attention to it in primary and upper primary education through targeted activities.
