Attributive and Predicative Functions of Czech Adjectives
Manukjanová, Hana ; Lehečková, Eva (advisor) ; Synková, Pavlína (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the distinction of attributive and predicative adjectives in contemporary Czech. Although this distinction is very important for defining adjectives as a word class in many languages, there was only little attention paid to it in Czech so far. This thesis is based on the work of František Čermák Lexikon a sémantika (2010). It is strongly inspired by english tradition of linguistics, which is also a reason, why he introduces a new term predicative adjectives in Czech. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part contains theoretical description of predicative and attributive function of adjectives. It is based on information contained in czech and foreign grammarbooks, handbooks or research papers. The goal is to summarize these separate information. The theoretical part deals with the basic characteristic of both types of adjectives, it focuses also on description of their semantics, word form and valency, which depends on it. This part contains definitions of some questionable points or inaccuracies of these descriptions too. The second part of this thesis is given to corpus research. The questionable points or inaccuracies of the descriptions defined in the first part of this thesis are examined on the material of Czech national corpus, concretely the corpus SYN2010....
Discourse Relations in Czech
Poláková, Lucie ; Hajičová, Eva (advisor) ; Hoffmannová, Jana (referee) ; Pešek, Ondřej (referee)
This doctoral thesis is devoted to linguistic analysis of discourse relations as one of the aspects of discourse coherence. Discourse relations are semantic relations holding between propositions in a discourse (discourse arguments). The aim of the thesis is a complex description of discourse relations in Czech and its application in an annotation scheme in the Prague Dependency Treebank. The thesis is divided into three parts: The first one is focused on the theoretical description of discourse relations and on analysis of adequacy of various methodological concepts in corpus processing. The second part describes in detail the proposed scheme for the annotation of discourse relations and the process of the corpus build- up including the evaluation of consistency of the annotated data. Finally, in the last part of the thesis, we address some problematic issues arisen with the employment the proposed scheme and look for their possible solutions.

Velký mnohojazyčný korpus
Majliš, Martin ; Žabokrtský, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Spousta, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis introduces the W2C Corpus which contains 97 languages with more than 10 million words for each of these languages, with the total size 10.5 billion words. The corpus was built by crawling the Internet. This work describes the methods and tools used for its construction. The complete process consisted of building an initial corpus from Wikipedia, developing a language recognizer for 122 languages, implementing a distributed system for crawling and parsing webpages and finally, the reduction of duplicities. A comparative analysis of the texts of Wikipedia and the Internet is provided at the end of this thesis. The analysis is based on basic statistics such as average word and sentence length, conditional entropy and perplexity. 1

Prefixation in Contemporary Spanish
Řepíková, Kamila ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Kratochvílová, Dana (referee)
This diploma thesis takes a comprehensive look at the matter of prefixation in contemporary Spanish and it is therefore divided into two parts. In the first one, we occupy ourselves with the area of constructional morphology and tackle theoretical matters. From the more general topics of word formation we then proceed to prefixation itself which we then attempt to define and describe in more detail. We outline the issues of concept delimitations, definition of prefixation, classification of prefixes and other controversial matters related to this process in the Spanish language. The second part of the thesis is of a more practical nature. There, we focus on the semantic meanings (locative and gradative) some prefixes may acquire. We then concentrate on specific prefixes (entre-, inter-, sobre-, super-), their distribution among word classes, and finally, using InterCorp, a parallel language corpus, we study Czech equivalents of selected elements.

Lexicographical Treatment of the Musical Terminology - Verbs in Focus
Suchánková, Eva ; Šemelík, Martin (advisor) ; Vachková, Marie (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is the processing of the verbs from the music terminology according to the lexicographical raster for a German-Czech dictionary of music terminology that will be available in the form of an online database by the end of the year 2014. For processing the verbs I used an empiric method based on research in the online linguistic corpuses, where relevant examples of the use of the verbs were searched. One of the main aspects this thesis is dedicated to is specifying the group of the verbs that will be included into the database. The main source for the selection of the verbs was the Duden Universal Wörterbuch (DUW). In the inventorying of the German musical terms, its macrostructure has shown itself to be insufficient. The group of the verbs intended for processing was therefore expanded by other entries.
