The Content Analysis of Czech Initial Reading Textbooks in Terms of Phoneme Awareness
Al Haboubi, Lucie
The thesis presents psycholinguistic concept of literacy and the key role of phonemic awareness as a skill proceding reading. Based on the preschool curiculum documents and on the analyses of didactic material designated for the first weeks of school (called Živá abeceda) we found this: the resources either don't contain development of the skill at all or when they do, it's higly unsystematic - it does not respect the psycholinguistic characteristic of the word material, nor the structure of phonemic awareness development. We mention the possibilities of future research. Key words: phonemic awareness, pre-literacy skills, psycholinguistic concept of literacy, initial reading, analytic-synthetic method, language introductory period
Diagnostics of the read text in the second year of primary school in connection with the methods of initial reading
SCHÖNBAUEROVÁ, Lucie
A dissertation called "A Reading Assessment of Second Grade in Elementary School in Response to Initial Reading Techniques" evaluates the level of reading skills in students who were educated by different reading techniques. The dissertation consists of theoretical chapter as well as practical research. The theoretical part describes the reading skills, the stages of reading development, working with delayed readers and analysis of reading performance. Evaluation of prevalence of specific learning difficulties at schools using sfumato reading method
Čadková Oriničová, Iveta ; Felcmanová, Lenka (advisor) ; Kotvová, Miroslava (referee)
The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis contains the knowledge gained by analyzing available literature on history, individual types and diagnostics of specific learning disorders, methods of initial reading and writing, and the impact of specific learning disorders on the personality of the child. The practical part of the thesis is a quantitative research carried out by means of a questionnaire survey for the staff of elementary schools in which the method of Sfumato was applied. The aim of the work is evaluation of prevalence of specific learning difficulties - dyslexia in children from the first to the fourth grade at elementary school, where the Sfumato method was chosen for teaching the initial reading. Within the regions of the Czech Republic, the highest incidence of dyslexia is 11.9% in the Moravian-Silesian Region, whereas Prague has the lowest incidence, 3.4%. The lowest incidence of dyslexia was found in pupils in first years, highest in third years. Cross-sectional learning disabilities (SPU 3) were most frequently diagnosed across all years. The research shows that the Sfumato method greatly eliminates the occurrence of severe learning disabilities, up to 0.4%. The overall incidence of dyslexia in the Sfumato method was 6%. Compared with the analytical-synthetic method, both...
Phonological abilities of preschool children
Kukolová, Alice ; Korandová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Horynová, Jana (referee)

In the empirical part we deal with the analysis of phonological abilities of preschool children. A qualitatively oriented research was made in two classes of two kindergartens. The chosen methods of thesis were observation, analysis of the results of activities and analysis of...
Analytic-syntetic method of reading praktice and incidence of dyslexi a among primary school pupils
Hybnerová, Iva ; Felcmanová, Lenka (advisor) ; Kotvová, Miroslava (referee)
The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis includes knowledge gained from selected specialized literature dealing mainly with the topic of specific learning disabilities and especially with problems of dyslexia. There are described types of dyslexia, its impact on pupils lives and breathly something about history. It also covers in detail the theme of analytical-synthetic method of initial reading, which is still one of the most used methods of initial reading practice in the Czech republic. The practical part of the thesis consists of a research, which was realized by the method of questionnaire survey. Its purpose was to find out how many pupils with certain levels of dyslexia as a type of specific learning disabilities are in the first to fourth years at elementary schools, where reading is taught by an analytical-synthetic method. Research results found about 6.4% of pupils with varying degrees of dyslexia in the first four years of the research sample of schools, where reading is taught by the analytical- synthetic method. The analytic-synthetic method then emerges as the second best compared to the other two most commonly used methods of initial reading practice.
