The impact of information overload on the psyche of adolescents and coping strategies

The bachelor thesis entitled Information overload and its impact on adolescents' psyche and coping strategies deals with information overload and adolescents' psychological condition. The aim of this thesis is to find out how too much information on social media affects the psychological well-being of adolescents. The theoretical part provides insight into the issue of information overload on digital platforms. It also looks at the different types and classifications of information overload, the causes of information overload, and the manifestations and effects of information overload on people. In addition, it also looks at strategies used to manage information overload. The theoretical section also provides a more detailed characterization of adolescents. It focuses on their cognitive development, social changes, mental development and their relationship with social networks. This section is followed by a final chapter on the characteristics of social networks and the links between them and information overload. The methodology section presents the main research objectives and research questions, which address adolescents' perspectives on social networks, the way they experience information overload, the consequences of this overload, and the strategies adolescents use to cope with it. This bachelor's thesis focuses on the topic of information overload and climate change. The theoretical framework presents information overload as a concept in general and then in the context of climate change. It specifies how information overload can arise in terms of consumption of different media types and mentions symptoms and potential impacts of the problem. It focuses on groups of recipients of climate change information. These groups are those who experience climate change directly and those who learn about it indirectly. It focuses on fake news about climate change and ways of their misuse. It also provides a discussion on potential solutions of the problem of information overload which appear in literature as guidelines and recommendations at individual, media organizations and workplace levels. The practical part of the thesis uses a questionnaire survey to obtain specific data and then quantitatively analyses it. The collected data is divided into categories which are compared with each other using graphs and charts. The findings are placed in the context of current knowledge summarized in the theoretical framework. The study describes common principles used by content recommendation systems with further focusing on web sites and applications utilizing these systems. The aim of this study is to show the dire need of content sorting and filtering, inevitably mentioning the private data protection.
Credibility and distribution of information in the context of economic and technological transformation

The recent economic crisis has hit most sectors of human activities. The media sector was no exception. Before the crisis began, media companies had to face challenges of technological and cultural transformation, the impact was even more accelerated by global economic downturn. The boom of the Internet and, by extension, social media, redefine consumer behavior in relation to information whose quantity and accessibility are rapidly increasing through technological innovation. The goal of this work is to evaluate impact of transformational effects on distribution and credibility of information presented in mainstream media. All this in terms of both consumer and mass media, because this synergistic relationship can not by separated.

The aim of this thesis is to create a comprehensive view on questions of development and influence of media on society and related formation and processing of information. This thesis should also enable the reader easier understanding and orientation in this topic. For that reason the thesis is divided into four main parts. The first section describes what is information, and the relation among data, information and knowledge. The second part is devoted to development and influence of information and communication technologies. It describes ways which enabled and enable to deliver information to its recipient and also related changes brought by these technologies. In the next chapter there is desribed what influences our relations within the framework of single nations and how media help to their convergency and linking. And the last part of this thesis includes an analysis of possible use and misuse when affecting broad masses of people.
