Homeschooling and adaptation of homeschooled children to school
Matějková, Jana ; Zemková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Hájková, Vanda (referee)
MATĚJKOVÁ, Jana. Homeschooling and adaptation of homeschooled children to school. Praha, 2014. Diploma Thesis. Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Education, Department of Special Education. The thesis is focused on homeschooling in the Czech Republic (considering the situation abroad). In detail, it deals with its position in the Czech education system based on legislation, as well as with its particular implementation. The aim of the research is to explore experience of Czech teachers with homeschooled children after their inclusion to school, emphasizing the possible benefit of homeschooled children as the source of inclusive environment in regular school. The data was collected through the method of non-standardized semi-structured interviews. These were created according to ten children describing own experience with adaptation to school after being homeschooled (received during the pilot study) and according to Booth and Ainscow's Ukazatel inkluze (Rytmus o. s., 2007). The research includes forty-one Czech teachers who experienced working with children homeschooled for at least two years. Besides other things, the survey shows that nearly three quarters of the participating teachers observed differences in these children, as opposed to the rest of the class, and more than a half noticed...
Impact of inclusive environment for pupils attitudes towards persons with disability
Zilcher, Ladislav
This dissertation is conceived as a theoretical - empirical study, which is focused on modifications in attitudes of fourth and fifth grade pupils towards people with disabilities. The research is based on three possible influences for attitudes, (1) the effect of classmate with disability on pupils' attitudes towards people with disability, (2) teacher's approach to the issue, their inclusive teaching competences and the effect on pupils' attitudes and (3) if school and its inclusive setting (which is represented by schools with "Fair school" certificate) has any influence on pupils' attitudes towards persons with disabilities. We try to explain one elemental empirical question by dealing with these three particular research issues. Does inclusive environment have positive influence on fourth and fifth grade pupils towards people with disabilities? We decided to choose a quasiexperimental design of this study to answer this question. Two validated empirical instruments were used in the research, they were administrated on a sample that consists of 1948 pupils from fourth and fifth grades and (their) 102 teachers. The acquired data were processed by appropriate statistical methods. Our outcomes partly confirmed the assumption that inclusive environment may have an impact on pupils' attitude towards...
Supporting inclusive environment using a literature storyline
Ciarkowska, Agnieszka ; Němec, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Hájková, Vanda (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with a literary story as one of the tools for supporting an inclusive environment. The theoretical part is dedicated to the inclusive environment and its' fundamental and important principles as well as to reading literacy, book clubs and RWCT method - "Reading and Writing for Critical Thinking". The research part examines pupils' preconceptions and their development after participating in the reading comprehension lesson, in which the pupils read a story about a boy with Treacher-Collins syndrome. This part of the thesis describes the preparation and realization of such a lesson and analyses its' data. The qualitative approach has been applied here. Based on the triple diaries that the pupils kept during the reading comprehension lesson, the individual statements were analyzed using the open coding technique. The aim of the practical part was to find out what preconceptions pupils have about a person with a visible disability who might become their potential classmate and how their thinking changed after the lesson. The emphasis is put on individual knowledge and self-awareness of experience. The analysis of individual comments from the research survey revealed, that most pupils would feel anxious, pity, or an urge to taunt the disabled pupil, as well as they would be...
Scouting for Everyone - Inclusive Environment in the Scout Unit
MATYŠOVÁ, Klára
This bachelor thesis is focused on the union "Scouting for everyone" and the overall environment in scout units. It is structured around three main goals. First, to explore in which ways the children with disabilities are incorporated into scout units. Second, to investigate how these children participate and the last main goal is to find out how the union "Scouting for everyone" accomplishes their program document from the year 2011. A qualitative research approach, a semi-guided interviewing method and inquiring techniques were selected in order to complete the practical part of the thesis. The interviews were conducted with twelve members of the Scout organization as well as three members of the union "Scouting for everyone". The open coding technique was then used to process all the interviews. The thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, the Scout movement in general and its history are introduced, then the topic of inclusion in schools and extracurricular inclusion are expanded upon. The last chapter in the theoretical part contains information about the union "Scouting for everyone". The practical part consists of two sets of results from the research conducted. The first set of results focuses on the interviews with twelve members of the Scout movement. The open coding technique was used to process their answers. The second set consists of answers of the three members of the union "Scouting for everyone". These are processed by diagrams. The last chapter is focused on evaluation - how the research goals have been accomplished. Lastly, the answers to research questions are mentioned in the last chapter. This bachelor thesis could be a contribution to scout leaders, who have children with disabilities in their scout troops and have no idea where to get helpful advice. The thesis also could prove helpful to extend general awareness about the inclusion in the Scout organisation to public and also to parents of kids with disabilities.

Continuing with describing special needs of this student, his position in a class and appropriate forms and methods of working with him/her. I slightly touch even the base of culture-free methods. In the practical part, the reader will follow my experiment with three immigrant students using method of conceptual learning and how this culture-free method influences students school achievements. The results of this study are positive not only in a way that the students become more proficient in the troubled school subject but they also gained a lot of self-confidence and autonomy.
