The depiction of the Watergate scandal in the movies: Comparison of feature films and documentaries

The diploma thesis The depiction of the Watergate scandal in the movies: Comparison of feature films and documentaries focuses on portrayal of journalists and the Watergate scandal on film. It illustrates this on examples of specific feature films and documentaries, which have been made about this topic. These particular movies are All the President's Men (1976), Frost/Nixon (2008), Watergate (2018), Our Nixon (2013) a Nixon by Nixon: In His Own Words (2014). In the first part of the thesis summarises the general history of the portrayal of journalists and media on film. It also contains the introduction of the key players in the Watergate scandal, which are Richard Nixon, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Furthermore, this part also describes the history of the newspaper The Washington Post and the Watergate scandal itself. The next part focuses on defining the basic terms used in the thesis, such as for example feature film, documentary, investigative journalist etc. The third and the last part, then concentrates on comparing and analysing the six aforementioned chosen films with the help of comparative method, which should lead to the final results. Contribution to the Study of Military Non-organized Resistance Movement against Nazi/Fascist Tyranny (Occupied Power) during the WWII in the Big Screen

(in English) This thesis deals with the Non-organized Resistance Movement against Nazi/Fascist Occupied Power during the Second World War in the Historical Film. I analyze selected Films reflecting the Resistance Movement in eight Western European countries (Norway, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy and Spain), which were realized from the Second half of the 20th century to the present. In the main part, I show under what conditions the Film was created, and the different approaches of directors to this topic. For each Film I describe the story structure, the artistic quality or flaws, and the Interpretation of Historical Facts. Last but not least, I focuse on the question of what kind of response made the specific Film.
Czechoslovak-Cuban Cinematic Cooperation in the 1960s

The study analyzes the largely understudied cinematic cooperation between Czechoslovakia and Cuba in the first decade following the Cuban Revolution. It is based mostly on archival documents from the former Central Directorship of Czechoslovak State Film, the ministry of education and culture and the ministry of foreign affairs. Several chapters also draw from oral history, data collected from series of interviews with Cuban technicians and artists who have worked in Cuban cinema since the 1960s as well as Czechoslovak experts who worked at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industries in the 1960s. The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (CICAI), founded in March 1959 shortly after the triumph of the Revolution, faced a shortage of human and material resources since its inception. The film industry, which had been mostly in the hands of the Americans before 1959, lost much personnel due to mass emigration. Later on, due to the American blockade and embargo, it also lost its most important provider of films, material and equipment. The majority of CICAI's technician and artists were just starting and were lacking in technical knowledge required to make films. This bachelor thesis called "Differences and specificities between documentary and feature film from the perspective of Director of photograhy" deals with different cinematographer's practice in these two disciplines, choosing the correct image format, movie camera and lens, right material and others technical parameters which simplify director's of photography work. I also mention history of documentary and feature film, historical film equipment which I compare to present digital cameras and digital movie cameras. I also describe feature films containging documentary elements and documentary films containing feature films elements. As an example I analyse two of such films and qoute famous czech and worldwide filmmakers who vigorously influenced cinematography.
