Estimation of Algorithm Execution Time Using Machine Learning
Buchta, Martin ; Chlebík, Jakub (referee) ; Jaroš, Jiří (advisor)
This work aims to predict the execution time of k-Wave ultrasound simulations on supercomputers based on a given domain size. The program uses MPI and can be run on multiple nodes. Prediction models were developed using symbolic regression and neural networks, both of which trained on captured data and compared against each other. The results demonstrate that the models outperform existing solutions. Specifically, the symbolic regression model achieved an average error of 5.64% for suitable tasks, while the neural network model achieved an average error of 8.25% on unseen domain sizes and across all tasks, including those not optimized for k-Wave simulations. This work contributes a new, more accurate model for predicting execution time, and compares the effectiveness of neural networks and symbolic regression for this specific type of regression problem. Overall, these findings suggest that new models will have important practical applications in the field of k-Wave ultrasound simulations.
Summative evaluation of the Act on protection of health from harmful effects of addictive substances with emphasis on use of tobacco products
Kučerová, Klára ; Nekola, Martin (advisor) ; Ochrana, František (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the evaluation of Act No. 65/2017 Coll., The Act on the protection of health from the harmful effects of addictive substances with emphasis on use of tobacco products. The evaluation of this Act was approached on the basis of the principles of summative evaluation, which focused on the impacts of the health protection Act and on the fulfilment of its set objectives. Apart from evaluations, the theoretical and factual basis of the work includes mainly tobacco control in the Czech Republic. The practical part of this thesis is based on quantitative research that uses secondary data. This research was subsequently supplemented by information from semi-structured expert interviews. The analysis is focused on the evaluation of a total of fifteen indicators, which represent areas on which the adoption of the examined law may have had some impact. These indicators mainly concern the area of smoking and health, but also the tobacco industry, hospitality, and the state budget. The evaluation of the indicators is based on a comparison of two time series, while one of them shows the real situation and the other extrapolates the situation without the adoption of the examined law. The results of the analysis were subsequently discussed in relation to the fulfilment of the set...
Evolution as a Way to God in the Work of Teilhard de Chardin
Jirousová, Františka ; Karfíková, Lenka (advisor) ; Sokol, Jan (referee) ; Macek, Petr (referee)
This dissertation deals with the notion of centration in the work of Teilhard de Chardin, the notion being examined with regard to two related aims: 1) to illustrate the logical structure of Teilhard's Christian theory of evolution, and 2) to explain the relation between centration carried out by created beings and centration assigned to God as the focal point of evolution. In other words: to explore the connection between fundamental freedom attributed by Teilhard to created beings and culminating in human beings according to him, and God's freedom demonstrating itself in controlling the universe and directing it to a goal being the fullness of being (pleroma). The first part presents Teilhard's life and the contexts of his work. The second part explains the main notions of Teilhard's theory and metaphysics, such as "consciousness", "spirit", "energy", "centro-complexity", and "matter", and relates them to the notion of centration. Centration is presented here as an activity of the consciousness consisting in the unifying formation of multitude by its interconnection with different types of relations around one centre. In such unification, the main law of evolution manifests itself - the Law of Differentiating Unity. This means that parts unified in such way start differentiating again. What is...
Fitting and Extrapolation of Turbocharger Turbine Maps
Demystifying Band-Limited Extrapolation
Mihálik, Ondrej
Extrapolation of band-limited signals gained scientific attention over the last 60 years. Thefamous methods: Gerchberg-Papoulis algorithm, Prolate spheroidal wave functions (PSWFs), andsinc interpolation—they all promise excellent results. But when it comes to their practical implementation, users may find themselves struggling with many unanswered questions. Especially PSWFsbecame viewed as mysterious. They are hard to compute and even harder to apply. In theory theypromise excellent extrapolation capabilities—something which is contrary to our intuition. This paradoxis resolved if we admit that the real-world data contain noise. In this paper we review the abovementionedmethods and try to provide a brief assessment of their capabilities by considering theeffects of noise and the length of signal observation.
Extrapolation of diagrams of resistance coefficients using virtual experiment
Koreň, Denis ; Vondál, Jiří (referee) ; Juřena, Tomáš (advisor)
As a part of pneumatic breaking systems, disc valves are used for very small actuations of the valves, for which no values for pressure losses are found in literature. The correct design shall be made conditional on the total pressure loss of system, a part of which also occurs in the flow of the given valve. The work is initially devoted to a description of the calculation of the resistance coefficient and the characteristics of the physical processes during the flow in the idealized valve. Consequently, design of the model for the flow at the entrance into the valve end at the exit from the valve, including the setting of the simulations in the Fluent, is clarified. An important part of the work are sensitivity tests of the model to Reynolds number, to the model of turbulence and the mesh resolution near the wall. In addition, the results of simulations for various relative scales of the model are compared with experimental data given in the literature. The outputs of the work are the resistance coefficients, which extrapolate the data in the available resources, especially for valves with small relative actuation (h/Dh

Frolík, Petr ; Novák, Petr (advisor) ; Žák, Michal (referee)
Title: Utilization of radar echo extrapolation for quantitative precipitation forecast Author: Petr Frolík Department: Department of Meteorology and Enviroment Protection Supervisor: RNDr. Petr Novák, PhD., ČHMÚ Supervisor's e-mail address: petr_novak@chmi.cz Abstract: At present time weather radar data are essential for national meteorological services. Utilization of this data for quantitative precipitation forecast and severe weather prediction for short period (nowcasting) becomes more and more common. Increasing interest for quantitative precipitation forecasts can be noticed in hydrological applications, where it can give early warning on flash floods and can improve large scale precipitation forecasts. This paper verifies usability of COTREC nowcasting method based on extrapolation of radar echo for quantitative precipitation forecast. Quality of COTREC forecast up to 3 hours was investigated on data from 1.4.2006 to 30.9.2006. Comparison of COTREC method with Aladin NWP model forecasts was also made. Hourly mean precipitation estimates on catchments were chosen for comparison because of verification focused mainly on utilization of the forecasts in hydrological applications. Forecasted precipitation estimates were compared with optimal operationally available precipitation estimate - adjusted radar...
