The North America in Early Maps Abstract The objective of this thesis is to analyze selected map works of European cartographers h showing the territory of North America in the period from 16. to 19. century. Using the cartometric and semiotic methods the map attributes are analyzed focusing the detection and description of the cartographic projection. Next, within the analysis of the topographic content the map symbols and the language of the map are discussed and interesting geographical mistakes of the authors are noticed. On the basis of the partial analyzes the progression of the continent depiction is documented with emphasis on the progression of map symbols and on the change of the shape of the continent in the given period. The Variations in B-flat Major of Zdeněk Fibich
Rudovský, Martin ; Ottlová, Marta (advisor) ; Kopecký, Jiří (referee)
The discovery of the autograph of Fibich's Variations in B-flat major for piano from 1877 not only extends the collection of known and completed compositions by Zdeněk Fibich, but they also present the single preserved concert variations for piano within his oeuvre. Thanks to the Variations, we can have a better insight into Fibich's compositional technique, for in 1883, he reworked them for a string quartet. Among other things, the comparative analysis reveals the latter work to be an unjustly neglected treasure. Also interesting is the fact that the origin of other significant sets of variations for piano by Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák and Leoš Janáček falls into the same period as Fibich's opus. Following the discovery in 2008 and the consequent study in Hudební věda ('Musicology') magazine, this thesis further focuses on the dedicatee, Prof. Josef Sallač (1849 - 1929), and reveals him as a prominent figure of the musical world, esp. in the 2nd half of the 19th century. This is one of the reasons why a search for Sallač's archive would be advisable, as it might contain valuable manuscripts. It was, after all, thanks to him that Fibich's Sonata in D major for violin and piano from 1875 was preserved. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Inquiry based teaching matematics
ŠULOVÁ, Veronika
This diploma thesis briefly introduces the concept of inquiry based teaching mathematics. In inquiry based teaching, emphasis is placed primarily on the active activity of the pupil, the aim of which is to discover a certain reality. This activity mainly involves solving problems and finding the right paths to achieve the right goal. We can call this path to a goal as a research. The inquiry process involves observing, formulating questions, identifying information, designing possible processes, and verifying them. In this educational method, the role of the teacher is not to pass the facts to the pupils, but to target them and to supervise the correctness of their practices. We can understand the teacher here as a guide, adviser or assistant on the path to the goal (discovery). In the thesis a few examples of mathematics of elementary and secondary schools are given, in which the inquiry based approach is applied. Mathematics in the given examples is not complicated, emphasis is put on the practical use. In the examples interdisciplinary relationships are developed as well, which is an important part of the inquiry based teaching. In each example, additional questions are provided.
Through war to discoveries. Denon’s road to art
Hrbata, Zdeněk
This paper analyses the key discourse levels in Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte, a book by Vivant Denon, a member of the society of scholars and artists that accompanied Napoleon’s military expedition to Egypt. From May 1798 to October 1799 Denon wrote a chronologically incomplete chronicle of the Egyptian campaign, including battles, encounters, pursuits, the horrors of war and the extreme conditions, a chronicle that is concurrently a travelogue journal with the customary topics (inhabitants, mores and customs) and an epic structure (the voyage, obstacles, wanderings and struggles). Moreover, as the author looks around ebes, Luxor, Denderah (Tyntiris) and Aswan, he colourfully and enthusiastically relates the discovery of Egypt, carefully describing and tirelessly drawing. The variety of discourses in Denon’s Travels (e.g. the discourse of war and its heroization, as well as its cruel aspect; the discourse of discoveries and emerging Egyptology; travelogue discourse) gradually takes on the form of the rivalry and conflict of different times.
Prototype of Outdoor Computer on STM32VL Discovery Platform
Leštach, Marek ; Orság, Filip (referee) ; Novotný, Tomáš (advisor)
This thesis focuses on describing of an outdoor computer prototype based on STM32VL Discovery platform and building it on the prototyping board. Prototype is able to locate itself with the help of GPS module and received data are recorded into connected MMC card formatted with the FAT filesystem. Information and trip statistics are displayed on a graphic display. Data on memory card are saved in NMEA-0183 format provided by the GPS module in order to be used with a map software on PC.

Enhancements of ServiceNow Discovery in application dependency mapping and application configuration
Toman, František ; Bruckner, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nosek, Josef (referee)
The main focus of this paper is to improve the ServiceNow Discovery tool in two areas. The first one is the Application Dependency Mapping (ADM). ServiceNow is currently not able to determine the type of the relationship between two applications. As a solution, a new application was designed and implemented. It enables human element to define the type of relationship before it is found by the Discovery. This application also makes it posiible to define rules, which affect the behaviour of ADM. Second area, taken into account in this paper, is the discovery of application configuration. Weaknesses of Discovery are identified and solution is implemented.
