Comparison of media coverage of the 2010 and 2022 FIFA World Cups in Slovak media

Bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of the media image of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and 2022 World Cup in Qatar. It compares it in two Slovak periodicals, in the SME newspaper and in the Šport newspaper. These two media are a fundamental part of the Slovak market and sport is one of their primary interests. The monitored period is the first 10 days of both championships. The theoretical part is devoted to sports journalism and its development. It also discusses social issues in sports and media coverage of high-profile events, which includes selected football world championships. It also describes in detail both World Cups, which the work research. In the practical part, using quantitative content analysis, the work classifies articles in selected periodicals into predetermined categories. Based on this, it compares which topics the selected newspapers covered in these periods. Furthermore, the work compares not only the topics, but also the authors and the scope that the media gave to the World Cups in individual years. The obtained results thus form and compare a complex media coverage of the championships in selected Slovak media. Richard Steindl

Kinguistic analyse of headlines in daily papers Hospodářské noviny and Blesk

The diploma thesis "The linguistic analysis of headlines in daily papers Hospodářské noviny and Blesk" deals with the analysis of headlines in articles that include the commentary genre, specifically in Hospodářské noviny and Blesk. In this work, there is analyzed the form of headlines, how they are set up, and how they relate to the content of the message. The thesis consists of theoretical and analytical parts. The theoretical parts describe the analyzed material, the method of linguistic analysis is described there and also the characteristic of headlines. It is followed by analysis which is divided into two parts. In the first part, there is observed the difference of using the types of sentences and also the kinds of modality in the headlines of observed daily papers and the second part of analysis studies the general headlines and the occurrence of metaphorical expression. It analyses occurring cases of metaphor, metonymy, personification and paraphrase and compares, if there are some differences between the daily papers in observing phenomena. The premise is that the type of tabloid newspaper has a higher proportion of headlines including the metaphorical expression. English language newspapers in the Czech republic between 1990 and 1995 as a part of process of transformation of the press in post-communist country

The diploma thesis deals with English language periodicals which were founded and published by Americans in Prague in 1990 - 1995. The first part describes the background of the American community in Prague in the middle 1990s and apprises of the American and Czechoslovak journalism in the frame of media system changes after the fall of Communism. The second part includes newspapers and magazines which existed in Prague the defined period. Except of print media articles, literature concerned with media transformation after the fall of totalitarian regimes and features of American and Czechoslovak journalism the thesis is based on correspondence and interviews with people who are allied to the included periodicals. At the end of the thesis there is a review of the impact that American journalists and writers could have on Czechoslovak and Czech journalism and literature. The influence of American journalists on the Czechoslovak and Czech colleagues remains in form of individual cases. The influence of American literature written in Prague in the defined period has not overreached the English language sphere and so it cannot be considered in the general context of Czechoslovak and Czech literature.
