Ethical aspects of citizen photojournalism with a focus on photograpic and audiovisual regords from late twenties until present

The bachelor thesis Ethical aspects of citizen photojournalism with a focus on photographic and audiovisual record from late twenties until present follows up the phenomenon of citizen journalism, which recorded especially in the last decade a sharp rise thanks to the development of information and communication technologies and looks at it from an ethical perspective. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part deals with theoretical notions of ethics and citizen journalism, including the ethical principles of journalism and code of ethics. It also examines the pro and con arguments and another form of citizen journalism, participatory journalism. The second part is devoted to new media from history to present and social networks (Facebook, Twitter etc.), which are closely linked to the development of citizen journalism. The last part has the form of practical examples focusing on photographic and audiovisual records. It divides into the crucial events that led to anchoring the concept of citizen journalism in journalistic dictionary and transforming the world of media (Rodney King, Tsunami etc.) and ethical questionable events, which among other things highlighted the problem of event. coverage by amateurs without the knowledge of codes of ethics and other journalistic practices (death of Nega...

Citizen photojournalism and videojournalism on Czech news websites

The master's thesis deals with the citizen photojournalism and the citizen videojournalism in the Czech media landscape. It focuses on the frequency of the amateur photographs and videos published on the selected news web sites and also on the gatekeeping process. This master's thesis also reflects the editor's opinions on the citizen photojournalism and the citizen videojournalism. The citizen journalism is usually viewed from the perspective of the citizen journalists, but this master's thesis brings the view from the second side, from the media professionals. The thesis uses the combination of the quantitative and qualitative methods. Firstly, there was conducted the quantitative content analysis. Secondly, there were interviewed the media professionals. The conclusions of the master's thesis indicate that the citizen photojournalism and the citizen videojournalism is rarely used on the Czech web sites. The media professionals evaluate this phenomenon positively, find its contributions to the news flow but only under the certain conditions. On the other hand, they do not find the citizen photojournalism and videojournalism absolutely necessary element for the news service.

Transformation of media ethics with the rise of citizen journalism

Master's thesis transformation of media ethics with the rise of citizen journalism presents the phenomenon of citizen journalism (which thanks to the development of information and communication technologies has marked a steep increase) and how it changed the ethics of traditional media while reporting about terrorist attacks. The theoretical part is divided into four chapters. The first chapter defines the concept of ethics with a focus on ethical principles in journalism. The second chapter defines the concept of media, puts emphasis on mass media and new media and their placement into the current media environment. The third chapter deals with the concept of citizen journalism and participatory journalism. It clarifies their definition, explains the differences between them, outlines their advantages and disadvantages and compares them with traditional media. The last chapter of the practical part deals with the term terrorism. This chapter defines terrorism, deals with its division and development stages and outlines its goals. The practical part examines, through a case study how traditional media behaves in relation to citizen journalism when referring to terrorist attacks and how they adhere or violate ethical standards when taking materials from amateur journalists. Citizen photojournalism - amateurs as photoreporters

The bachelor thesis Citizen Photojournalism - Amateurs as Photoreporters deals with increasing citizen participation in creating visual media content which has seen big growth over the last decade thanks to development of communications and information technology. The thesis is divided into three separate parts. The first part focuses on theoretical definition of citizen journalism and photojournalism phenomena. It shows how big impact the new technologies have on journalism amateurisation and also remarks on relationship between amateurs interfering with media and professionals. Second part of the bachelor thesis describes social networks and internet services that contributed to expansion of visual journalism by enabling photo sharing and publishing. Some examples of these include Flickr, Twitter or photography agency Demotix. Third part looks into concrete examples of amateur photos making their way into media as a full-fledged news material - for example London 2005 terrorist attacks or Arab Spring in 2011. All three parts emphasise print and electronic media.
