The purpose of the work is to analyze cartoon humor on the pages of the humorous and satirical magazine Dikobraz between November 1989 and December 1992. This period was a significant change in the political system for Czechoslovakia. The communist totalitarian regime was replaced by a democratic establishment. At the end of this period, there was a division into independent Czech and Slovak republics. For the purposes of the work, the professional literature devoted to the observed period, especially in the political sphere, was studied. Furthermore, 162 issues of the magazine Dikobraz were studied, or Nový Dikobraz. In the practical part, selected political and social events and their depiction with the help of cartoon humor are presented.
"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" Changes in the Character of the Princess in the Films of Walt Disney and his Studio.
BARTLOVÁ, Andrea
The thesis focuses to the evolution of female characters in Disney cartoons. It investigates whether the characters change in any way and if so, what changes happen. The work is chronologically arranged and divided to several time periods. Each chapter contains particular fairytales which are mutually compared. Every fairytale is also set in the historical context. We will also explore whether the films are influenced by the period context. The aim of the thesis is to find out what the chosen fairytales have in common and how the main female characters evolve. This is described in 4 different eras, which are following: from the classical period within years 1937-1967 we have Snow White and Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. In years 1967-1988 there were no films with a princess as a main heroine and the studio dealt with a crisis. In the 1980s the company management changed and Michael Eisner became the studio managing director. Within years 1989-2005 many successful films were created in the studio. We chose The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas. Robert Iger has been the studio managing director since 2005. We chose Tangled, Frozen and Moana from the last period, which hasn't finished yet. Eventually we mention the Disney studio impact on society. We study its marketing abilities and the use of advertisement. The conclusion shows how the heroines changed from girls who needed to be saved by the Prince Charming over girls who took their fate in their own hands to princesses equal to men.

Ondroušková, Žaneta ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Hájek, Roman (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on the analysis of humorous environmental cartoons in specific periods during last twenty-three years. In the content and semiotic analysis, I am dealing with cartoons in its various forms in the Czech broadsheet newspapers MF Dnes, Právo, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny, Deník, Lidová demokracie, Svobodné slovo and Práce. I surveyed the subtopics dominating in specific periods and the frequency of envirotoons depending on particular titles and current events in the Czech Republic. The thesis deals with these media contents also in connection with global environmental issues and their public discussion. Another important part is the reflection of social problems which the analyzed topics are closely related with. Combination of quantitative and qualitative methods enables to describe and interpret media units of content and lay the foundations for the research of environmental cartoons which has no tradition in the Czech Republic. In the thesis, I point to the fact that newspaper cartoons provide not only the relaxation and entertainment, but it is also an important medium in environmental agenda-setting and its discussion.

The image of eldery people in children programmes
Charvátová, Denisa ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The subject of the thesis is the problem of portrayal of the elderly in Vecernicek animated cartoons for children. Content analysis is conducted on twenty-two selected animated Vecernicek stories that portrayed older characters (371 cartoons for a total of 2974 minutes). The objective of this paper is to examine the depiction of the elderly in Vecernicek cartoons and to point out age stereotypes. The first part of the paper consists of a theoretical framework necessary for the subsequent analysis, particularly media depiction, media representation, construction of reality, the relationship between media depiction, reality and stereotyping, which are then accompanied by characterization of the stories, their meaning and also by definition of old age. Next, all twenty-two analyzed cartoons are briefly introduced. Quantitative content analysis is conducted to examine the frequency and context of depiction of male and female elderly characters, and the overall message. Using qualitative content analysis, six coherent groups of media depiction of the elderly are created, then using semiotic analysis, six specific examples of age portrayal in Vecernicek cartoons are introduced.
