Underground culture – adaptation of an old brewery in Litovel
Drešrová, Silvie ; Bártová, Kristína (referee) ; Koleček, Ivan (advisor)
On the border between tradition and new knowledge, history, and the present. Between the walls and the river, older and younger. Experience culture in a different way with friends and dance, or sit with a cup of coffee or beer and listen to live music. Try a traditional craft, create, and learn about the city and its surroundings in an unusual playful way. In an instant, find yourself behind the walls or in front of them and listen to the bubbling river, bask in the sun, and feel a sense of belonging with the outdoor environment. Sit under the colonnade and watch the happenings in the market or watch a cultural performance from the gallery. Between two worlds, between young people, between the center and the suburbs, in the same place, to form one meaningful unit. Establish a stronger relationship with the city and nature and have somewhere to have fun. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, you - young people are our wealth. The location is situated on the border of the old historical core behind the medieval walls and the new suburb behind the Morava River along Božena Němcová Street in Litovel. The work deals with the adaptation of the historical spaces of the former brewery cellars and the new superstructure above them, to restore impressive spaces in an interesting place for the public, especially in the field of alternative culture and education for young people. Spaces for the meeting of this intergenerational/intermediate stratum have not yet been found in Litovel, which causes an outflow of young people from the city. An integral part is the modification of the surrounding area with the waterfront and the addition of a pedestrian or cycling promenade along the Morava River. This way, I would like to help the city live up to its title of „Hanácké Venice“ and interconnect the place and its inhabitants with water. The work also deals with the material design of a new apartment building.
Culture Support Projects from the Point of View of the Symbolic Capital (the Case Study of the BU2R - the Budweiser Budvar Project Supporting the Urban Culture)
KOŠAŘOVÁ, Markéta
This diploma thesis focuses on the notion of brand infiltration into the field of cultural and artistic production in the case of BU2R, the project of Budweiser Budvar brewing company that claimed to support non-mainstream culture, which operated between 2007 and 2018. BU2R was a marketing platform to promote the Budweiser Budvar brand in the field of alternative and independent cultures with a focus on the urban environment and subcultures. The thesis analyzes the strategies the platform has used to integrate into the targeted field of culture. It also describes the projects that BU2R has supported and collaborated on. The principles of its functioning are interpreted with the help of the Roland Barthes's theory of the modern myth and Pierre Bourdieu's theory of the cultural field. The thesis presents the details of this campaign tactic, whose success lied mainly in the fact that it shaped the sponsored projects into the very content of the advertising campaign, while the authors of the artistic projects were usually not aware of this principle; thus they unintentionally participated in the performative impact of the campaign.

Čížková, Veronika ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Vedral, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis "The Czech Counterculture and Its Media Representation in the Period of 1983-1987" analyses the media coverage of that part of culture of the communist regime which was set aside from the propagandized main stream - either systematically by the regime or purposely by its performers. In the first part of the thesis, besides the outlining of the era of normalization and its media, there is a description of this type of culture, both in its illegal way (so called underground culture) and its official way of providing an alternative to the main stream. In the second part, the thesis is focused on following how the media reflected the alternative culture, using the chosen periodicals as an exemplar. The method of the research uses qualitative analysis and the research material consists of periodicals Rudé právo, Tribuna, Mladá fronta, Melodie a Tvorba in the period of the years 1983-1987. The thesis concentrates mainly on music, especially on the special phenomenon, which can be called the "New wave disruption effort." Other concerned issues and revealed facts in this thesis are definite differences about the way of media coverage of alternative culture between the single chosen periodicals, and also the transformation of the way of representation during the studied period.

Also focused upon are the specific social groups related to Revolver Revue, the specific institutions and the interaction of important actors involved, all perceived through a political and historical context. This work is centred around qualitative empirical research based on analyses of interviews and on the study of related documents. The approach taken to this study was heavily influenced by Grounded Theory.

Statue, location, relation - Bohemia in 80's of the 20th century
Péčová, Kristýna ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Prahl, Roman (referee)
As a subject to my bachelor's thesis I chose the sculptures and installations made by Czech artists during the period of 1980s, which were created with the aim of exterior placement, out of the traditional exhibition spaces represented by museums and galleries. The keynote of my work will be the relation and interactions between a piece of art and its surroundings as well as the concept of space itself and its overlooked qualities that art may help to reveal. I decided to focus on the exhibition known as Malostranské dvorky, which took place in Prague in 1981. The idea that has led to the organization of the exhibition and its specific circumstances will be my main interest alongside the description of the particular works of art displayed and their destiny during and after the official end of the exhibition. Furthermore, I will compare the exhibition held in the intimate and unique atmosphere of the old Prague quarter with art that was produced in the same period of time within the official state commissions for newly constructed housing estates and public buildings, such as department stores, hospitals and more. Last but not least, both phenomenons of Czech outdoor sculpture will be compared in more global context with site-specific artworks. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The thesis describes the term ‚social discoloration', and the question of the possible delay of East European art behind the Western one. Final part of the thesis proposes the general typology of the connections between non-official community and the West.

Productions of Franz Kafka's work in directorial generation at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s in the wider context of alternative culture
Pavelková, Tereza ; AUGUSTOVÁ, Zuzana (advisor) ; SCHLEGELOVÁ, Martina (referee)
Master's thesis deals with the reception of Franz Kafka's personality and works by generations of directors at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. The main question discussed is what Kafka's work meant for these directors, which subject it represented for them, and how their theatrical adaptations reflected the socio-political conditions of the socialist Czechoslovakia in the period of normalization. The first chapter reflects the social and cultural context of the period while focusing on the position of the theater and movement of the small scenes which belonged to the current alternative culture. The second chapter focuses on Franz Kafka's reception by 1989 and also contains a literary interpretation of his work, on which is based the main part of the thesis. There are the analyses of the productions of America (1985, J. A. Pitínský), The Trial (1989, Arnošt Goldflam), The Metamorphosis (1988, Petr Lébl) and Josephine the Singer, or the Mouse Folk (1989, Petr Lébl). On grounds of these analyses, we can argue that Kafka’s work served to the explored generation as an expression of the existential feeling of an individual in totalitarian society. The last chapter deals with The Wish to Become an Indian (1991, J.A. Pitínský), which was created after the revolution, and shows how Franz Kafka's theatrical interpretations changed at the end of totalitarianism.
