The relationship between Pathological Buying and Materialism in paramedical staff: correlation survey

Resources: The topic of this Master's thesis is oniomania, or in other words, pathologic shopping and how it is affected by an individual's materialistic value orientation. Pathologic shopping refers to an unmanageable urge to buy something, to order, to own a thing. For the needs of this thesis, materialism is understanded as the conviction that gaining material goods is the ultimate life goal, main index of success and key to happiness. Based on the research, materialism is considered to be a significant predictor of oniomania. Aims and methodology: The main aim of this thesis was to describe the relationship between pathologic shopping and materialism. Then prevalence of pathologic shopping was further detected in the focus group which consisted solely of non-medical health care staff as well as the prevalence of age and income. The research also focused on circumstances and consequences of pathological shopping. 853 respondents participated in this correlation research based on data gained from the survey. Introduction: This thesis deals with addictive behavior in relation to modern technologies in children of early school age. Modern technologies are part of the lives of ever younger children, but it is not entirely known what effect the use of these technologies has on a child's development at this age, his cognitive or social abilities. Objectives: The aim of this research was to map the addictive behavior on modern technologies in children of early school age. Following the patterns of use of modern technology that children show, what opinion the parent and the child themself have about the use of modern technologies by children, and what is the difference between these two opinions. Also, the aim of this research was to describe what rules or restrictions parents set within the use of modern technologies by their children. Sample: The sample consisted of 8 parents of children of early school age and the children themselves. From each parent one child at age 6-9 years. Relationship of young adult mens with Internet gaming disorder

Background: Internet gaming disorder is a relatively new diagnosis. Research in this area is developing dynamically, and the number of studies conducted is growing, focusing not only on the disorder in general, but also on its impact on the lives of addicted gamers. Laical and professional public debate on the potential impact of non-substance addictions on social relations. Aim of the research: The research focuses on the perception of partnerships by players who meet criteria for an online gaming disorder and a subjective assessment of the impact of the disorder on the partners themselves. Set and selection methods: The research file was created by combining simple purposeful selection with criteria and method of a snowball. Two scales were used as criteria for inclusion in the file - diagnostic criteria for Internet gaming disorder according to DSM-V. and Abbreviated versions of the gambling addiction questionnaire (Lemmens et al., 2009), as well as male gender and age 20-35 years. Addictive behavior on the internet among children placed in a children's home

Background: So far, no research has been conducted among children from children's homes in the Czech Republic, which would map their relationship to addictive substances and the potential risk of addiction to the internet, even though these children are a vulnerable group that is targeted by many state institutions and helping professions. Objective: The aim was to find out the prevalence of internet addiction in children in children's homes, to map out the temporal character of addictive behavior and the internet applications they visit the most. The data collected were compared with the data obtained from ESPAD 2015 and the National Substance Use Research 2016. The data were used to analyze how much children ordered to institutional care differ in substance use, the internet and other communication technologies, from children that live in a family environment. Methodology: The obtained questionnaire data were subjected to descriptive statistical methods. The Role of Mobile Phone in the Life of a University Student: Monitoring Mobile Phone Interaction and Subsequent Reflection of Students

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to explore what are the habits of mobile phone usage by university students and for what purpose they use their mobile phone. Research questions focus simply on the means of usage along with students knowledge on mobile phone excessive addictive behaviour. Research was conducted in qualitative means using quasi experiment as a main method that included two parts. First, there was a group of 4 men and 4 women, in age of 18 - 26, that had their "on screen time" measured for one week. Second, each participant was individually confronted during an semi structured interview, where there was main focus on analysing their reaction. Results confirmed, that university students are strongly affected by the mobile phone influence and they show addictive behaviour. Women are experiencing a stronger need than men and are using their phones more often. A link to procrastination during learning or school lessons was found as well. Study has shown that there is a need for broader education on excessive phone usage as a part of precautionary programs on elementary and high schools. Online gaming addiction in the personal history of adolescents who use drugs harmfully

Background: Behavioral addictions, particularly so-called online addictions, have become a highly active research area. Nowadays, addictive behavior towards computer games can be included into other risky activities in adolescence such as substance abuse. The connection to personality traits is now being studied by many mental health professionals. The idea of correlation between the effect of excessive online gaming and the personal history of adolescents who are currently treated in a juvenile facility for substance abuse led me towards writing this study. Aims: This thesis aims to present the connection between addictive behavior and online gaming, specifically, the connection between playing computer games in childhood and excessive substance abuse later in adolescence. The goal of this study is to describe the development of excessive online gaming towards substance abuse in the cases of chosen adolescents. The thesis focuses on the occurrence of the combination of selected phenomena in the subject's development considering motivation, while also looking at the personal experiences of respondents. The subject of this study is the recognition of the link between service in the Police of the Czech Republic (PCR) and abuse of substances for supporting muscle growth and anabolic steroids. The service of PCR officer is often been connected to physical strenght and psychical resistence, which is given by training, personality and self-confidence of the officer. Masculinity and muscular body is seen by some officers as essential for this job and the standard there is shifted when compared to the other people. Anabolic Steroids - substances accesible on the illicit market - can be abused for fast muscle growth and outreaching the limits of ordinary man. The first part of this study is theoretical part, in which the aspects of police service are described, as they are risk factors for development of exercise addiction and abuse of substances for supporting muscle growth. At present, the topic of addictive behaviour on the Internet is a highly discussed topic. In conjunction with it, young adults are increasingly emerging as a vulnerable group, specifically individuals entering university. Students of different learning backgrounds also have different hobbies in the online world. Drug experiments often take place during this period. The main objective of this research was to determine the prevalence of addictive behaviour on the Internet and the use of addictive substances in two completely different university disciplines. Another objective was to find out whether there are any differences in the results of the respondents and whether there are some connections in the phenomena studied. The research was conducted at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Charles University and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at CTU. For the purposes of this research, a questionnaire was selected, the questionnaire comprised of these standardized questionnaires: a Griffith questionnaire, selected questions from the European School Study on Alcohol and Other Drugs, the CAGE Questionnaire, the CAST questionnaire and the EIUS questionnaire by Škařupová.
