Czech Secondhand Board Game Price Analysis
Pospíšil, Matyáš ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Bajgar, Matěj (referee)
This thesis explores the various factors a ecting the willingness to pay (WTP) for secondhand board games in the Czech market. A regression analysis was em- ployed to examine the influence of age, the importance of reviews and themes, monthly income and media influence on consumers' WTP. The study also dif- ferentiates between more and less complex games to highlight subtle shifts in WTP based on game complexity. The empirical results provide insights into the baseline for the discounted price, the significant negative e ect that age or inexperience in buying a board game can have and the remarkable positive ef- fect that following board game media has on the price. While the study centres on the Czech market, its findings o er practical implications for the broader secondhand board game market and retailers. Estimating willingness to pay for increasing probability to conceive
Kolářová, Natálie ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
The purpose of the thesis is to analyze preferences for increasing the probability of conceiving. Willingness to pay for increasing the probability of conceiving is estimated using the private good scenario and a new complex of vitamins and minerals as the contingent product. Specifically, we use the discrete choice experiment with three attributes: the increase in the probability of conceiving, the number of months of trying to conceive from when this probability will be increased, and the cost to be paid for this product. Data are obtained through a stated preference survey conducted in 2014 in four European countries (the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Italy, and the Netherlands). We estimate a mixed logit model, allowing for unobserved preference heterogeneity. We find that people are willing to pay to increase a female's probability of conceiving, and their willingness to pay is higher after 12 months of trying to conceive when one is becoming infertile. Respondents are willing to pay for increasing the chance to conceive even during the period when they are not diagnosed as infertile, i.e., from 6 months of trying to conceive, except in the Netherlands. Italians are willing to pay the most, while Dutch are willing to pay the least. By controlling for the main characteristics of...
Willingness to pay for houseplants in the Czech Republic
Halouzková, Eliška ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
This thesis examines consumers' willingness to pay for houseplants in the Czech Republic. The data for the thesis were collected via self-developed question- naire. From the data, two regressions were created. First one measured the willingness to pay for houseplants, the second measured factors influencing the exact prices respondents are willing to pay. The study found that several factors, such as gender, previous houseplant purchase, the perception of house- plants as a home decor item, preference for artificial plants, view of houseplants as a hobby and whether houseplants improve their mental health have signif- icant influence on the willingness to pay. The significant factors for the price the respondents pay was university education, preference for low maintenance houseplants, place of purchase, size of the houseplant and recent houseplant purchases.
Determinants of generic drug substitution in the Czech Republic
Žílová, Pavlína ; Votápková, Jana (advisor) ; Bryndová, Lucie (referee)
This study uses logistic regression to estimate the probability of choosing the brand-name drug despite the presence of cheaper generics given patient and drug characteristics in the Czech pharmaceutical market in the period 2009-2013. Results of the analysis may help guide policies to decrease pharmaceutical costs. In order to motivate people who are more likely to choose the original version of drug, policy makers may impose higher copayments and lower subsidies on the original drugs which they use. Additionally, two supplementary analyses were applied to sub-sectors of the pharmaceutical market: antihypertensive drugs and antibiotics. Fixed effects logistic regression is employed to test the robustness of the results.
The influence of watching videogame streams on purchase decisions of gamers and their willingness to pay, evidence from the Czech Republic
Mertová, Veronika ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Kukačka, Jiří (referee)
This thesis aims to understand the relationshipbetween viewership of video game streams and purchase decisions players make. Furthermore, the price they are willing to pay is explored. The emphasis is on understandingthe difference in these effects for big blockbuster games and small independentlydevelopedtitles. The data was collectedusingan online survey distributed in gaming-focusedgroups on social media. The data on purchase decisions was analysedusing a logit model. It showed that trust in streamer's recommendations increases the chance of purchase along with the number of preferred genres and games bought for indie titles. Moreover,it showed a positive relationshipbetweenbeing a student and purchasinga big game after watching. A standard ordinary least squares model was used to analyze the price and showed that hardcore gamers, people who buy on release day, and people with a wider range of interest in games tend to pay more. On the other hand, older people, students, and people who prefer to buy games on sale are willing to pay less. Lottery Premium in Video Gaming Environment
Karhánek, Tomáš ; Šoltés, Michal (advisor) ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (referee)
Gambling, as well as many traditionally physical forms of entertainment, has become popular in a digital form. In the recent years it has found its way to video games. In the environment the gambling element is represented by so called loot box, virtual vessel containing random digital rewards that are in most cases purchasable strictly for real world currency. The writer hypothesizes an existence of a variable, lottery premium, that can help him well explain the decision making process of gambling participants in this environment. The author collects data from the loot box buyers to help him determine the other significant factors influencing the amount of money spent on loot boxes. Using OLS regression he estimates the size and direction of effects of mentioned variables as well as their significance. The lottery premium variable is determined as a significant in terms of the amount spent. Therefore, the author performs a second OLS regression to determine factors influencing size of the lottery premium. The significant variables influencing the amount spent are: age, participation in risk involving activities, searching for the odds of the loot boxes, amount of friends that purchase loot boxes as well, the value of the most expensive item ever received from the loot box, disposable income and...
Willingness to pay for electricity-driven passenger vehicles
Horváthová, Inés ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Kukačka, Jiří (referee)
This thesis analyses stated preferences for 4 different types of passenger ve- hicles (conventional, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric vehi- cles). The discrete choice experiment survey was conducted in Poland in 2014. With the use of latent class model it was possible to identify and describe dis- tinct segments in the population with varying preferences for the propulsion technologies: groups with strong and weak preferences for conventional vehi- cles, segments preferring pure hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and a class in favour of battery electric vehicles. Even though it was found that on average consumers would require compensation up to 22,200zł (e5,311) to switch to using an electric vehicle, respective segments in the population would be willing to pay around 10,100zł (e2,417) for this change in case of pure hy- brid, around 21,400zł (e5,128) in case of plug-in hybrid, and around 92,800zł (e22,199) in case of battery electric vehicles.
The Economic Value of Crop Diversity in the Czech Republic
Tyack, Nicholas ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
We estimate the willingness-to-pay for conserving crop diversity in the Czech Republic. Discrete choice experiments are used to elicit preferences for the conservation of wine, hop, and fruit tree varieties, while a double-bounded dichotomous choice approach is used to elicit preferences for the conservation of unspecified, "general" crop diversity. The WTP values are derived for both of these contingent products from a sample representative of the general Czech population (n=731) and a sample of respondents living in the South Moravian region that is characterized by agriculture and wine production (n=418). We demonstrate a strong preference for conserving fruit trees over hops and wine varieties, and derive positive mean WTP of the general Czech population (ages 18-69) of 56 Kč ($2.26). Mean WTP for the conservation of general crop diversity is 167 Kč ($6.80). On average, residents of South Moravia have a greater WTP for "general" crop as well as fruit tree conservation. In total, the Czech adult population (ages 18-69) has an aggregate WTP of ~1.25 billion Kč ($50.5 million) for the conservation of general crop diversity, and ~410 million Kč ($16.8 million) for the conservation of fruit trees, revealing the previously unmeasured social welfare benefits of these activities. The estimated benefits...
Willingness to pay for green electricity
Novák, Jan ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Gutiérrez Chvalkovská, Jana (referee)
We estimate the willingness to pay for electricity generated from renewable energy in the Czech Republic. Discrete choice experiment is used to elicit preferences for various attributes of renewable electricity support scheme (PM emission, GHG emission, size of RE power plant, revenue distribution, and costs). Original survey is carried with 404 respondents living in two regions - Ustecky (polluted area) and Southern Bohemia (cleaner area). We find that respondents prefer decentralized renewable electricity sources over centralized, local air quality improvements over reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Estimated marginal willingness to pay for 1% reduction in emission of particulate matter equals to 49 CZK, respectively 3.7 % of average monthly electricity bill. In total, WTP for green electricity is larger than current compulsory contributions to renewable energy support scheme. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Value of Accounts at Free Social Networks and the Endowment Effect
Čepová, Martina ; Cingl, Lubomír (advisor) ; Paulus, Michal (referee)
In behavioral economics, the endowment effect explains the difference between the stated value of the good that consumer already owns and the value of the good what he would be willing to pay to obtain it. On the basis of neoclassical economics, the value of one's willingness to pay (WTP) and willingness to accept to forgo it (WTA) should be equal. In practice the values differ and the difference has been demonstrated by many experimental studies on various types of goods. The core of this thesis is to verify the existence of the endowment effect for non-market goods, the account at free social network website Facebook, by the analysis of the relationship between WTA and WTP. Because of nonexistence of the market, the individual does not have any market experience with respect to economic valuation of the account. An economic evaluation study by the Contingent Valuation Method is designed. In the last part I analyze the variables which have impact on the stated values.
