Jan Benda "The homeland of the country emigrate and back again…" The Migration from the occupied borderland in the time of Second Republic (1938-1939) Supervisor:PhDr. Jan Gebhart, CSc. DSc. Abstract The thesis deals with raw yet comprehensively, covering theme: migration from the border area of Czechoslovakia, which was ceded to Germany as a result of the decision in Munich and to Poland on the basis of Polish ultimatum. Introductory chapters are trying to find answers to questions concerning the origins and the beginning of the refugee problem, which could be sought in the growth of antisemitism in the spring of 1938. In the autumm, after a coup attempt Henlein's people left border in addition to the German anti-fascists, Jews and Czechs. Already during the phased resigning border migration flows greatly abounded, which were both due to the increase in negative behavior and conduct the "Henlein's" people (some of members of Henlein's Party-SdP) against German anti-fascists, Jews and Czechs, as well as specific measures Nazi regime restricting the living conditions of the population of the occupied territories. Reform of Canadian asylum system
Staňková, Lenka ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Kozák, Kryštof (referee)
The Master thesis The Reform of Canada's Asylum System deals with the refugee issue in Canada. Canada's asylum system has been the subject of controversy almost since its inception in the 1970s. The asylum system has been crippled by a cumbersome inland refugee determination process which resulted in a huge backlog of unresolved asylum claims. Even though various governments have tried to reform the dysfunctional system, newly implemented measures only have led to even bigger backlog and longer delays, which encourage people who are not in need of protection to make an asylum claim knowing they will be able to skip the regular but lengthy immigration process and have immediate access to a range of generous social benefits. The thesis analyzes the problems of the existing asylum system which are seen in a general access to the refugee determination process, in its expensiveness, in the inefficiency of the immigration authorities, and in long delays allowing the asylum seekers to live and work in Canada for many years. Analyzing the expected outcomes of the new reform, the thesis assesses whether the new proposal of Canadian refugee and asylum policy will be finally successful in resolving the problems that are crippling Canada's asylum system or whether it will be rather classified just as another...
Role of UNHCR in case of asylum seekers, refugees and stateless persons – the case study of Turkey
Unzeitigová, Klára ; Novotná, Markéta (advisor) ; Kuchařová, Alžběta (referee)
Inspired by the Kratochvíl, Cibulková and Beník´s model of actorness, the thesis explores the framing power of UNHCR. The critical discourse analysis introduced by Norman Fairclough is applied in order to analyze the textual, contextual and sociocultural dimension of the UNHCR framing power. The case of Turkey was chosen for this study due to the current situation and the fact that Turkey is one of the biggest hosting country in the refugees´ crisis. Through the critical discourse analysis, the thesis explores whether UNHCR is considered as a framing actor in the case of asylum seekers, refugees and stateless people in Turkey. The analysis shows that UNHCR is globally respected and takes important part in the issue. However, not all of the international organizations refer to UNHCR as the lawmaker and the initiator of debates in the issues mentioned above.
the Role of FRONTEX in the European refugee crisis
Fridrichová, Katrin ; Novotná, Markéta (advisor) ; Rolenc, Jan Martin (referee)
The bachelor thesis aims to elaborate the role of Frontex agency and its sufficiency in coping with the migration crisis. The criteria chosen were quantitative aspects (the budget and the number of detentions of illegal border crossings over the external borders), and qualitative aspects evaluated with content analysis based on proclamations of the representatives of European bodies (European Council, European Parliament and European Commission) in the year 2015. Main designated activities were operational, on the base of the analysis of agency´s mandate. Therefore, the main role of the agency is both coordination and assistant. The rule, that member states and their border forces are responsible for external borders protection, still applies. This statement is the main problematic issue and despite Frontex has been successful in its role, all the investigated European institutions agrees that the mandate of the agency should be inevitably strengthened to improve protection of external borders.
Comparison of refugee norms socialization process in the Czech Republic and Norway
Slováková, Linda ; Rolenc, Jan Martin (advisor) ; Novotná, Markéta (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse the stage of the socialization of the rights of refugees in the Czech Republic and Norway, to identify the identical as well as different characteristics of the process in both countries and to compare the final findings, alternatively to predict the development of the issue. The thesis offers an analysis of the activities of the domestic and transnational advocacy networks relating to the norms and standards of refugee right. We have classified the third phase of the norm socialization process, the phase of tactical concessions, based on the five-phase model of norm socialization presented by Risse-Kappen, Cropp and Sikkink (1999). Neither one of the countries have reached the final, the fifth phase, the rule-consistent behaviour. We have come to the conclusion that in both states there will continue the different interpretation of the refugee norms by the actors as a consequence of the different interests and identities. The analysis and the comparison were the crucial methods used in the thesis.

Refugees: the problem of Second Republic
Mádr, Pavel ; Soběhart, Radek (advisor) ; Szobi, Pavel (referee)
This paper deals with the issue of refugees who had to leave boarder regions of Czechoslovakia in 1938 after Germans occupied them as a result of the Munich Conference. It analyzes their numbers, motivations, professions etc. and then focuses on the management of refugee care. It tries to characterize the basic attributes of the care and especially concentrates on their feeding, clothing, employment, emigration and medical service. From September 1938 to March 1939 almost 200 thousand refugees escaped to reduced Czechoslovakia (so called "Second Republic") which caused serious problems. There was confusion in the country but authorities in cooperation with NGOs and private companies managed to provide refugees with basic accommodation, clothing and feeding. However, their employment and permanent settlement remained, due to the economic problems of the state and winter season, which made seasonal works impossible, unsolved till German occupation in March 1939.
