Residents' Perceptions of Gentrification and Related Changes: a Study of Smíchov and Karlín

Gentrification is an urban process gone global with many permutations and local specifics. This master's thesis analyses how residents are perceiving gentrification in rapidly developing, post- industrial, inner-city neighbourhoods of Prague - Smíchov and Karlín. The thesis is based on the concept of gentrification as planetary phenomenon that is anchored in a post-socialist context of contemporary Prague. The integral process of displacement is understood as direct but also symbolic, as an attachment to one's neighbourhood. Perception, an individual's filter of understanding and dealing with the world, is used to capture nuances, experiences, and feelings. Using interviews, the thesis seeks to answer the following questions using the underutilized perceptions of regular citizens. How are residents perceiving gentrification and the related changes? Where are residents placing gentrification? Are these findings the same in Smíchov and Karlín or are there differences in the perceptions? Gentrification and displacement are palpable urban processes that the respondents perceive as having changed the neighbourhoods in an impactful way. Questions Concerning Elementary Education in Reflection of School Chronicles ZŠ U Santošky 1 (1897-1939) Abstract The focus of this Bachelor's thesis is to comprehend the development of general education in the years 1867 - 1939 in the context of school chronicles from elementary school U Santošky 1 which history illustrates the general scheme. First chapter describes theresian education together with the development of education in Smíchov until 1897, when IVth general school for boys and girls in Smíchov was founded (today elementary school U Santošky 1). The following chapter describes the characteristics of general education and the changes that were applied during the era. The third chapter focuses on changes and development since the foundation of the independent Czechoslovakia until the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia was established. Retail trade at Prague-Smíchov: spatial differentiation of convenience stores and prices of goods

This thesis addresses a specific type of retail units - convenience stores - in the locality of central Smíchov in Prague. The aim is to explore spatial differentiation of these stores and the prices of goods in them and to detect the link between the characteristics and price levels of convenience stores. The research was situated in a location strongly differentiated by its socioeconomic status, the physical environment and functional usage. This promises a revelation of significant and interesting outcomes. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the accurate definition of convenience stores and the evolution of retail in Prague with emphasis on its inner city. In the methodical part I focus on the researched area delimitation and specification and the description of the data collection and processing. The last chapter summarizes the results, which are presented mainly by maps. The work is primarily based on extensive field research and spatial data survey. The localization of the store is the main factor influencing the differentiation of convenience stores and their prices. The location on the main street is the key determinant. Benefits of digitizacion of television broadcasting in the diversity of programme content in the Czech republic

Diploma thesis examines the form of television market in the age of digitalized terrestrial broadcasting with regard to the extent to which there can be found genre innovations, wider scale of origin countries and the placement of its own or foreign programme premieres. For this purpose, it concentrates on eight new digital channels distributed in terrestrial network; available nationwide, not monothematic and having audience share of at least around one percent. In the theoretical part, there is briefly summarized the history of the digitalization process in the Czech Republic, there are profiles of examined TV channels and thesis also presents extinct or minor digital channels shortly. For research purpose, thesis uses quantitative analysis methodology; it allows to explore larger amount of materials and achieve the general knowledge. The results consist of the comparison between the eight channels in three categories, description of the evolution of programme in the course of the time compared to the first month of broadcasting and contextual contrast using partial analysis of broadcasting of main and then only analogue available channels . The major positive aspect of the new channels is a higher degree of ambiguity genre. However, U.S. still holds important role as origin country of the programmes.

Urban revitalization of Prague's Smíchov

This Bachelor thesis deals with the theme of revitalisation of the urban environment. The paper describes the urban renewal process and focuses on the related terms of brownfields and greenfields. The first aim of this work is to analyze the condition of two specific decaying complexes in Prague's Smíchov area: the bus station Praha Smíchov, and the Zlíchov distillery. The station of Smíchov encompasses a huge plot of land, but it isn't fully used. Smíchov's station controls extensive land which is not only partly used. In contrast, the Zlichov distillery ceased production fourteen years ago and has still not been put to use. These problem areas are located in the inner city, and therefore offer great potential for the development of the city. The second objective is to describe the perception of two disturbed areas by residents whose place of residence is located nearby. Assessment of quality of public spaces: case study Smichov, Prague 5

This bachelor thesis aims describe and analyze the relevance and quality of public spaces in the current environment Smíchov. The studied area covers a surface on the territory of central Smíchov, bordered from the north of Vítězná street, further south down the street Vltavská, from the east bordered by the left bank of the river of embankment Vltava and from west bordered by street Drtinova, Kartouzská and Radlická street.
The thesis consists of two parts. The first part is devoted to a literature search, which contains the definition of public space and its individual categories. The second part is a description and evaluation the area in question. In the second part is the evaluation the results of the research and areas that are evaluated by means of graphs.
The bachelor thesis is based on the available theoretical materials and the results of local surveys of each public spaces.

Hodnocení nákupního centra

Smyslem této práce je prozkoumat strategii nákupního centra Nový Smíchov a jeho nákupní prostředí podložené teoretickými východisky. Dále analyzovat silné a slabé stránky, zjistit výhody a nevýhody tohoto centra z pohledu zákazníků a vyhodnotit jeho situaci na trhu. Na začátku této práce bych ráda představila nákupní centrum Nový Smíchov jako takové a dále bych pak přiblížila teoretickou stránku nákupní atmosféry. Budeme na ní nahlížet jak z pohledu kvantitativního, tak i kvalitativního. Následně bude popsán exteriér nákupního centra, jako jsou např. vstupní prostory, parkovací plochy, architektura stavby, atd. V dalších částech se zaměřím na interiér centra, jeho jednotlivé maloobchodní jednotky, poskytované služby a zákazníky. Součástí této práce bude i samostatná kapitola věnující se hypermarketu Tesco, ve které se čtenář seznámí nejen s historií této společnosti, ale i současností. Dopodrobna budou rozepsány jednotlivé složky interiéru a jejich klady i zápory. V neposlední řadě budeme analyzovat trh nákupních center v České republice a jeho předpokládaný budoucí vývoj.
