Czech and Dutch Audience and Their Perception of Enviromental Issues on the Example of the Big Bang Theory Series
Homolková, Lenka ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
In this work, I focus on the propagation of environmental issues through sitcom and comparison of the perception of these topics by Czech and Dutch audiences. I report on the results of focus group research of the American show The Big Bang Theory (2007-2019), from which artefacts were pre-selected with the assistance of thematic analysis. These findings suggest different perception of the environmental contents included in the researched series, the same as the varying perception of hypothetical promotion of the environmental issues in the future series. Generally speaking, the global sample perceives the promotion of environmental issues in popular media positively, though the degree and the form of the accepted usage of these topics vary. Czech audiences perceive the topics more negatively than the Dutch audience, showing a lower sensitivity threshold for a possible attack on their own opinions and identity. The most significant differences were observed in the perception of the concept of nature, the person interested in the environment, and the individual impact on the improvement/deterioration of the environment. A suitable tool for communicating environmental issues in the sitcom is corrective irony (allowing to emphasize the contrast between environmental awareness and personal actions to...

Běhavá, Aneta ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Sládková, Hana (referee)
The work deals with the comparison of the 4 US sitcoms from the fifties and from the present. For the example of four sitcoms: Father Knows Best; Leave It to Beaver; The New Adventure of Old Christine and The Middle; it tries to track changes in the family, the status of individual family members and behavior among family members. It also tries to map the wide-social changes in the form of emancipation, values, norms and stereotypes. Likewise it tries to observe technological changes both in content and in the form of shooting. For better understanding, the first part describes the history and development of the sitcom genre, as well as the integration between genres and its reflection on society. The second part deals with the description of listed sitcoms and the results from the observations. At first in the work are discussed the details of the changes in the family then the changes in the broader context of the whole society.
Comparison of the sitcom Roseanne and Helena with regard to theories of social classes and lifestyles
Martínková, Tereza ; Baslarová, Iva (advisor) ; Vochocová, Lenka (referee)
The bachelor thesis Comparison sitcoms Roseanne and Helena deals with, as the title implies, comparision of two sitcoms. The work focuses on all aspects of sitcoms. Starting with a name and ending with the description of characters, environments and storylines. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question whether these two sitcoms differ,or not. If so, how? Furthermore, the social stratification of families presented in the sitcom is analyzed. This analysis is based on the Bourdieu's theory of four forms of capital. Moreover, further attention is paid to the connection of lifestyle and membership of a particular social class. The research is based on qualitative research, respectively, from the content analysis with qualitative approach. The research is based on the observation of several episodes of the mentioned sitcoms. Subsequent analysis, comparison is based on the detailed notes taken from the observation and episode-watching. The thesis also defines the term sitcom itself, yet it provides a brief overview of the unique sitcoms produced by the United States and Great Britain. Additionally, it includes all Czech sitcoms and soap operas that can also be considered.
Mockumentary as a tv phenomenon
Czech, Jan ; Kruml, Milan (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the topic of the mockumentary, which is a film and television genre, which combines elements of a documentary and fiction. Mockumentaries became, in the first decade of the 21st century, an eminent form of televisual entertainment, mainly because of the introduction of the British series The Office in 2001 and its American adaptation four years later. The name mockumentary itself is a neologism and there isn't an agreement as to what is and is not a mockumentary. In any case the blending of fiction and reality has a long tradition on TV and radio and this fusion has become the foundation for many popular hybrid genres, as for example reality shows, docudramas and docusoaps. With these mockumentaries share a lot of similar traits but also differ from them. A mockumentary can be reflexive in that it gives us the possibility to question the authenticity of real documentaries and the "reality", that they display, but it can also be satirical and a parody and it gives the creators an original perspective as how to communicate with the viewer and gives a new source of comedy and humour. The enumeration of these typical traits of a mockumentary and their examples can be found in the case study, which forms the final part of this thesis.
