Promotion of Portugal as a destination with a special focus on the Czech market.

The aim of this master thesis is to outline Portugal as a tourist destination and to sum up its promotional activities on the Czech market. First part of the thesis describes destination marketing management in general from both tactic as well as strategic point of view. The chapter especially focuses on marketing specifics in the tourism area. Second part of the thesis holds fort on destination Portugal and its supply of tourism products, the main tourism target groups and the strategic management of tourism in the country. A special stress is put on creating an overwiev of the promotional activites of Portugal on the Czech market and on proposing remedies that will lead to better and more effcetive marketing communication.
Fundamental economic problems of Portugal between 2007 and 2011 and their possible solutions

This thesis deals with the fundamental economic problems of Portugal between 2007 and 2011 and their possible solutions. The first chapter shows the development of Portuguese economy at the beginning of the new millenium. The second chapter focuses on the impact of the global financial and economic crisis on the country and its public debt. The last chapter describes the current fundamental economic problems that trouble Portugal the most. These include problems on the labour market, low competitiveness and problems with public debt repayment.
The economic situation of PIIGS countries before and after accepting the Euro

The thesis deals with the economic situation of PIIGS countries - Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain, from 1996 up to the present. The first chapter defines the process of economic monetary integration up to the current economic crisis. On the basis of macroenomic analysis the thesis endeavours to find basic causes of current problems in PIIGS countries and to define an occurence of imbalances and varience among these states and other members of the Eurozone. In the conclusion we can find a comparison of PIIGS countries, an evaluation of their development before and after adopting the Euro and an influence of inflation, exchange rate and other economic factors on inception of divergences within the EMU.
Financial crisis impacts on the chosen EU states

Bachelor's thesis Financial crisis impacts on the chosen EU states analyses the impact of the financial crisis on two particular EU member states, Ireland and Portugal. Even though the root causes were different, both cases experienced similarly devastating effects that made them ask for international financial assistance. Thorough analysis of the anti-crisis governmental policies in the context of chosen macroeconomic indicators will then reveal the level of their effectiveness. Final comparative analysis of the key factors between the two countries will not only show the inadequacies in the economic behavior of these two states in the last decades and the current state of the economies, but will also enable to draw some conclusions on the future evolution of these economies as such.
Analysis of the causes and the possible solutions of the indebtedness in the countries of the so-called Southern wing of the EU

This study looks into the problems with indebtedness of the countries of so-called European Union's southern wing. The goal of this thesis was to summarize the essential information about every country of this so-called Southern wing of EU and to give more details about some selected issues they deal with. This study describes the current height and structure of country's debt and the solutions of this crisis their government have chosen. At last but not least it is also focused on their problems with competitiveness.
The solution of the crisis in Ireland and Portugal: comparative analysis

The aim of this thesis is to describe the progress of the debt crisis in Ireland and Portugal, two countries, except of Greece, that have been the most affected by current developments and forced to ask for international financial assistance. The first chapter describes the historical and economic context that shaped the long-term development of these economies and is essential for the proper understanding of the present situation. The second chapter focuses on specific causes of the crisis, in Ireland, it analyzes the housing bubble puffed up after the adoption of the euro and in Portugal, it underlines the long-term and persistent structural problems. The third chapter discusses the conditions of granting the international loans, along with the planned national measures and the last chapter evaluates success of the implementation of these policies and the expected development in the near future for both countries.
Development and consequences of public debt in selected countries of the EU

The main goal of this thesis is to introduce the topic of public debt and its connection to budget deficit, and to compare the situation in 2 selected countries of the European Union, Ireland and Portugal. The first chapter describes the theory of public finance, its function and the main principles. It focuses on the problem of fiscal imbalance, approach of the European union (especially with regards to the Stability and Growth Pact), it also explains the theory of budget deficit and public debt. Second and third chapters are focused on the selected countries of the EU - Ireland and Portugal - as countries that are facing major problems in the area of public finance and are highly likely to ask for financial help, as it happend in the case of Greece. The chapters describe an overall economic situation of the two countries, the causes of public debt and its increase, approach of the EU towards them, proposed and agreed austerity measures, possible solutions and also further prospects for the future.
Current changes in the business environment in selected countries of euro area

This thesis aims to analyze current business environment and its development in three countries of euro area (Greece, Spain and Portugal) during the last five years and reflecting the current financial crisis. The first section analyses the conditions for development and the ways the financial crisis spread to euro area. It also demonstrates its effects on macroeconomic indicators. The next part defines the business environment from the point of view of the World Bank, The Heritage Foundation, IMD and The World Economic Forum. It also reflects the opinion of European Commission on the rate of incorporating the European directives regarding the internal market. The third part analyzes the current business environment and its development according to each definition.
Portugal as an intermediary between the European Union and Africa

This bachelor essay deals with the interconnection of two traditional interests of Portuguese foreign policy and analyses the role of Portugal as an intermediary between Africa and the European Union. It defines at first three dimensions of Portuguese interests in Africa, which are the Portuguese speaking countries, Maghreb countries and "the rest of Africa". The second part examines activities of the Portuguese representatives during its three EU Presidencies and activities of the Portuguese members of the European Parliament, which are connected with African agenda. Finally, it inserts these activities in the broader context of EU policies towards Africa and by comparison of the first and second part it comes to conclusion that Portugal can be really denoted as an intermediary between Africa and the European Union.
Portuguese business environment and trade relations with the Czech Republic

The following thesis analyses the business environment in Portugal and the specifics of current Czech Portuguese trade relations. The political and legal, economic, social and cultural as well as technological environments are all analysed. The final part of the thesis is dedicated to Czech Portuguese trade relations, their current state as well as perspectives for future development and possibilities for Czech entrepreneurs on the Portuguese market.
