The Presence of Silence in Human Lives and Relationships

This bachelor thesis deals with the presence of silence in human lives. The thesis concretely identifies the silence as a very important part of human lives because the silence helps people to find their spirituality. On the other hand this thesis says that people are afraid of silence because they don't know what could be found in the silence. In the first part of this thesis the conception of silence isspecified. In this part there is also the quality of silence important for human spirituality discussed. This part is also engaged in the development of silence in monasteries where silence is often used. The experience of st. Benedict are especially mentioned. The other part of this thesis is aimed to the fear of silence. It also describes the possibilities how to reduce this fear and how to work with silence in our lives. The applied part of this thesis introduces the own experience of the author with silence in The Silence cafeteria and in the Trappist monastery. It also presents several dialogues about human relation to silence.

Security sector reform and post conflict peacebuilding in Afghanistan

Security Sector Reform (SSR) is considered a significant feature in post-conflict peacebuilding efforts typically employed by states and international partners. Recently, the concept of SSR has played a significant role in the statebuilding process in Afghanistan after the Taliban regime; however, a disorganised and unplanned withdrawal poses severe threats to the security sector. This thesis explores the SSR efforts made by the western states after the end of the Taliban regime. The holistic approaches present in policy and strategy documents are quite challenging when it comes to SSR implementation in a post-conflict country ruled by an insurgent group for years. This thesis illustrates two competing approaches that show how SSR played a role in the post-conflict peacebuilding within Afghanistan and how peace spoilers and US/NATO withdrawal will impact the gains of twenty years in SSR. In order to better analyse the SSR process, a case study of the Afghan National Police is used. Moreover, this thesis offers some practical policy recommendations that can be useful for the concept of SSR in Afghanistan. Selected elements of global politics: Theoretical aspects, common threads, and empirical divergences in three "liberal" International Relations' approaches

i Abstract Liberalism encompasses many disciplines. Individual freedom, free-market capitalism, republican form of government, and rule of law are considered to be among its main pillars. The Thesis illustrates an original analysis of three partial "liberal" theories of International Relations (IR) - referred to as "approaches" because of their interdisciplinarity - and their main scholars' considerations vis-à-vis important selected elements of global politics, with peace as the general background. The three analyzed approaches are Economic Liberalism, Democratic Peace Theory, and Democratic Realism. Keeping into account their differences, traditions, and purposes, the approaches are operationalized through five subchapters - institutions, free-market, international law, conflict intervention, and nationalism - to prove their compatibility, non-contradiction, and possible juxtaposition vis-à-vis these features. Despite some "empirical differences", while looking at the selected-IR issues, the approaches have "common threads", and this is visible when the three frameworks and their top-selected scholars are confronted with the elements. Supervisor : Prof. Oldřich Bureš Abstract This thesis analyses the Sultanate resistance to violent extremism as a Middle Eastern nation that has consistently scored a "0" on the Global Terrorism Index (GTI), an ongoing indexing of global terrorism from 2003 onwards. The Sultanate was markedly stable for those years unaccounted by the GTI. This case study examines institutional and legal frameworks established by the Sultanate and their value on countering radicalization and extremism processes that might lead to an act of terrorism. This research is supported by literature on radicalization and countering violent extremism (CVE) models, with great focus on a five- pronged, comprehensive working paper that approaches major problems across the Middle East. Comparison of Hans Kung and his work Global Ethics with the Civil Religion

This Diploma Thesis deals with two universalistic conceptions, represented by the Swiss Catholic Theologist Hans Küng and his work Global Ethics, and the Civil Religion. In the first part of my text, I bring in the personality of Hans Küng, his work, ideas and the book Global Ethics which received great acclaim on international forum, Churches and society. Küng draws up three basic theses: No world peace without peace among religions. No peace among religions without dialogue between the religions. No dialogue between the religions without accurate knowledge of one another. These theses express the need for a dialogue, being able to formulate viable visions of the future. In the second part of my work, I introduce a less known notion of the Civil Religion with its transformations and development throughout the history. It is a concept exceeding the border of sociology, political science, philosophy and theology, examining the formative processes of the society and its religious reference speech. It penetrates the academic discourse especially in the period between the 1960s and 1980s, as represented e.g. by the American sociologist Robert Bellah. Peace and Security in post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina

Although it has been more than twenty years since the end of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the country is still on its path to recovery, which has been very slow and very painful. The unemployment rate is staggering high, the brain drain presents a serious issue, and the country's political system looks like anything but sustainable. The Dayton Agreement may have stopped the war, but it also created a complex political structure that does not encourage the cooperation among the three constituent peoples on the scale as it was envisioned. The aim of this work is to investigate to what extent the Dayton Agreement has solidified the constructed divisions and hatreds between the ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Furthermore, the thesis seeks to examine in which ways the Dayton Agreement facilities and legitimizes the political elites' quest for securitizing the ethnic identity of the respective groups. It will also try to explain the reasons behind the rapid rise of nationalism that led to the brutal war as some of these motives may still reflect the current situation in the post- Dayton period. Jiří Beneš, Th.D. - Degree: Master. - Prague: HTF UK, 2014. 65 p. This thesis deals with the exposition of the textual unit of The Aaronic Blessing from The Book of Numbers, chapter 6, verses 22-27. Its aim is to characterize theological meaning of the textual unit and also to provide insight into the meaning of the phenomenon of blessing in The Old Testament. Reach of this theological reflexion surpasses the scope of Old Testament judaism and provides an impulses also for the christian theology, for usage and developing of blessing in its context. Results of the exegesis can present knowledge about understanding of blessing not only in its original context, but also in the understanding of contemporary society. Blessing gives strong impulses for personal lives, but it is also connected with the issues of whole society and with approaching the goal of peace and the status of world, in which will of God is implemented. On Belief in Power

This thesis researches the phenomenon of (mostly human) power from the point of view, from which human accepts it and believes in it. At first, it deals with the phenomenon of power in the work of Machiavelli (The Ruler) and it points out the possible danger of its absolutisation. For insight into thinking of Machiavelli, it deals with the analysis of Ľubomír Belás and also with the viewpoint of Anna Hogenová, Jan Patočka, Ernst Jünger, Václav Bělohradský and other authors. The thesis also shows the Comenius' criticism of Machiavelli. There comes a sort of revelation of the principle of power which disregards other values and the thesis warns against it. In the next step, the thesis researches the conception of Václav Klaus (Blue, not a Green Planet) and with the help of Jan Keller's statements and some scientifical opinions in ecological issues (Ravi Kumar Kooparapu) the thesis finds it closed in a certain way of economical thinking, guestioning-suppressive and thus somewhat power-based. Further, this thesis researches the form of strong distortion of the picture of the world which appears in the work of ideologist Alexander Dugin (The Great War of Continents). It's goal is to outline the theological meaning of this particular section of the text and to provide deeper insight to the phenomenon of the blessing in the Old Testament. It deals with the occurrences and the development of the concept of blessing in the Old Testament books. Subsequently it exposes The Priestly blessing and it's parts in grammatical and etymological and final it deals with it's theological exegesis, which exceeds also to the structure of theological concepts in the Old Testament. Gained conclusions can provide new, nontrivial knowledge related to the understanding of the blessing, which became a permanent part of the Jewish and also Christian tradition.
