Speech therapy in adults with acquired apraxia of speech

1 ABSTRACT The diploma thesis deals with the issue of speech therapy intervention for adults with acquired verbal dyspraxia. The main goal of this special pedagogical research is to find out what procedures clinical speech therapists in the Czech Republic use as part of speech therapy intervention for patients with verbal dyspraxia. In accordance with the primary goal of the work, sub-goals are set, which determine what diagnostic materials clinical speech therapists use to diagnose acquired verbal dyspraxia in adult patients who have developed a neurogenic communication disorder due to a stroke, trauma or neurogenic disease and what therapeutic methods clinical speech therapists use in the therapy of persons with this diagnosis. Another sub-goal compares how clinical speech therapists are aware of the symptoms of verbal dyspraxia and whether they can easily recognise it based on this knowledge. The work presents data on neurogenic communication disorders, of which dysarthria, aphasia and oral apraxia were described in more detail. Family and social context of the diagnostic therapeutic process for people with aphasia

The subject of this bachelor's thesis, which deals with one of the sub-fields of special pedagogy - speech therapy - is the provision of speech therapy prevention in kindergartens in the district of Klatovy. The aim of the work is to examine the provision of this prevention in the Klatovy region. The paper is divided into three chapters, while the first two define the theoretical basis of the thesis. With the help of professional literature, the topics of communication, speech therapy intervention with an emphasis on speech therapy prevention, speech development, preschool age or the most frequent types of impaired communication skills occurring in preschool age are defined. The empirical part analyses the data of a qualitative research survey conducted in the form of interviews with teachers in kindergartens. The work explores the course of speech therapy prevention, the cooperation of kindergartens with professional external institutions regarding speech therapy prevention, the tools used as well as the pitfalls in providing prevention. Based on the research survey, attention was drawn to the insufficient cooperation of kindergartens and clinical speech therapists or special pedagogical centres. Speech Therapy Provision for Seniors at Residential Care

The topic of this diploma thesis is speech therapy provision for seniors at residential care. The thesis consists of four chapters, three of which are theoretical, the fourth chapter is practical. The first chapter describes the old age, it presents basic terminology and it characterises the old age from the point of view of physical, mental and social development. The second chapter is concentrated on the issue of neurological speech and language disorders, their etiology, symptomatology, diagnostics and therapy. The third theoretical chapter describes the system of health and social care of seniors in the Czech Republic with an accent on the system of speech therapy intervention within the resorts of health care and social care. The fourth chapter is the research one. It is developed as a quantitative descriptive research, using the technique of a questionnaire sent to nursing homes for seniors in the Czech Republic. The research is completed by qualitative analysis of dialogues with speech therapists that provide speech therapy at nursing homes for seniors. Role of speech therapist in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders

The thesis titled Role of speech therapist in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders characterizes the role of speech therapy intervention as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team taking care of a patient with a neurological diagnosis in the process of comprehensive rehabilitation care. The theoretical part of the thesis is based on professional literature, it defines the terminology related to communication and communication disability in general, then it focuses on neurological diseases and patients with neurogenic communication disorder. The main part is focused on speech therapy intervention in the process of comprehensive rehabilitation of patients with neurological diseases. The practical part of the thesis presents results of a survey, carried out on neurological departments of hospitals in the Czech Republic in October 2016 to obtain information on whether and how the speech therapy intervention is provided at neurological departments in hospitals in the Czech Republic. Speech therapy and intervention of people after stroke with a diagnosis of aphasia

The topic of this diploma thesis is speech therapy and intervention of people after stroke with a diagnosis of aphasia. The thesis consists of four chapters. The theoretical framework is presented in three chapters, the fourth one is an empirical part of thesis. The first theoretical chapter deals with the concept of communication and defines the basic terminology, it also describes the area of the central and peripheral nervous system and its influence on the human's communication ability. The second chapter approaches the issue of ictus focusing especially on etiology and symptomatology of the disease, diagnostics, therapy and prevention. The third theoretical chapter describes aphasia - a kind of communication disorder arising from a stroke. It focuses on the definition, etiology and symptomatology of aphasia, the process of diagnosis and therapy. In conclusion, this chapter also describes the possibilities of providing speech therapy and intervention in the Czech Republic. The thesis titled Evaluation design therapy of neurogenic disorders of language in clinical speech therapy aims to find out what effect the speech reeducation to improve communication skills in people with acquired neurogenic communication disorders speech. Next, determine whether therapy plays a role during client environment, if the success rate of therapy affected patient's condition and the extent to which the clients are motivated to therapy. The theoretical part summarizes the findings from the literature on neurogenic communication disorders, aphasia and dysarthria.
