The issue of Ips typographus in the National park Šumava ?application into geographical education
Faflák, Jiří ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Král, Luboš (referee)
The issue of Ips typographus in the National park Šumava - application into geographical education Abstract The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of Ips typographus with an emphasis on the possible ways of solving the outbreaks of its population in the National Park of Šumava. This work is also concerned with the application of articles dealing with this problem into geographical education. The outbreaks caused by the Spruce Bark Beetle are a long-term problem typical for non-native spruce monocultures that have replaced, not only in Šumava, the native mixed forests. The opinions on how to approach this matter differ a lot and it is quite hard to assess their objectivity. The method of active reading proved to be ideal when including this topic into geographical education. Active reading of texts in the geographical lessons helps students to develop critical thinking and to shape their individual opinion. The set of articles presented in this thesis encompassing various insights on how to solve the Spruce Bark Beetle outbreaks in Šumava will help the teacher in developing the above mentioned students' skills. Articles are divided into three separate groups according to the solution they propose. A CD included in this work contains selected articles. Teachers have the option to work with the articles and...
Sustainable tourism and conservation of nature in NP (emphasis on NP Sumava)
Fiedlerová, Jana ; Čihař, Martin (advisor) ; Görner, Tomáš (referee)
Compilation part of the Bachelor thesis is focused on sustainable development and tourism. An integral part is conservation management with a focus on the NP Šumava. Thesis mainly concentrates on evaluating the impact of tourism on the environment whereas one chapter/part is an analysis of winter tourist season in mountain areas. The experimental part deals with monitoring of tourims in NP Šumava to which was used a method of questionnaire survey. The emphasis is put on winter sports tourism. Research results (from winter season) are compared with summer surveys. Among new findings belong a increase of car traffic by 5%, absence of adequate car parking facilities/parking spaces and diverse opinions of summer and winter visitors. Based on these results relevant management disposals are introduced.

Villages occur in many Czech and central European large protected areas (LPA). Some inhabitants and local politicians occasionally publish, that occurrence of the LPA can inhibit regional development and cause negative demographic and socioeconomic changes in the region. This diploma thesis tests this assumption and studies the effect of existence and establishment of the LPA on socioeconomic parameters of villages and their inhabitants. The case study was conducted in the south-west border region of the Czech Republic, the area of high o ser atio alue. The Šu a a Natio al Park i side of alread e isti g Šu a a Protected La ds ape Area, PLA a d Český les PLA ere esta lished 99 a d 5, respectively. Statistical analysis (ANCOVA) for selected socioeconomic and demographic parameters of 39 villages and their cadasters were used to study development of the region between years 1991 - 2011. The results found the village size (number of permanent residents living in the village) to be more significant predictor for most of studied parameters than occurrence of the village in/out of the LPA. The results are discussed with results of similar studies conducted in other protected areas. Peripheral character of the border...
Dynamics of moss overgrowth in ditches in restorated drained mires in area of Modrava bogs (Šumava NP)
Novozámská, Eva ; Mikulášková, Eva (advisor) ; Váňa, Jiří (referee)
Eva Novozámská Dynamics of moss overgrowth in ditches in restorated drained mires in area of Modrava bogs (Šumava NP) Abstract This thesis is devoted to a research of induced and natural Sphagnum overgrowth in dammed ditches in restorated drained mires of Šumava National Park within the "Programme of Peatland restoration". Induced overgrowth was studied on the peatlands Cikánská slať, Luzenská slať and Novohuťské močály and 36 permanent experimental sites were established for its study. In 2006 Sphagnum fallax or Sphagnum majus were placed in each site in dependence on the type of locality. For four years increase or decrease of Sphagnum were monitored. The study of natural overgrowth was investigated on the same localities as induced overgrowth. The Sphagnum cover was noted in the year 2009 at 65 sites. The depth of the ditch and the flow of water were the most important variables influencing natural overgrowth and the cover was almost the same on all localities. In the case of induced overgrowth the most important parameters were depth and width of the ditch, amount of the branch support and the interaction of depth and width. The depth of the ditch in the case of natural overgrowth was used to generate a model for prediction of Sphagnum cover. It was possible to compare the induced overgrowth with the...
Analýza spontánní sukcese na kalamitní holině vzniklé na územním pracovišti Stožec (Národní park Šumava)
Štětina, Pavel
Bachelor thesis deals with spontaneous succession on the calamity clear-cut area in the National Park Šumava. Two transects were created, which were divided into 10 m plots. One transect was 50 m in spruce stand, one continue through the 50 m long clear-cut area, and was terminated 50 m in dry stand. The second transect was the same, but the length of the clear-cut area was 110 m. On the plots were found out to be naturally regeneration and mature trees. According to the results, the positioning of the individual trees varies depending on their light requirements. The most natural regeneration was found in dry vegetation, except for light-emitting trees, whose center of gravity lies on the clear-cut area.
Classification of forests damaged by disturbance using multispectral satellite data
Šmausová, Barbora ; Štych, Přemysl (advisor) ; Červená, Lucie (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to create an appropriate methodological procedure for classifying damaged forest in the selected area of Šumava National Park. For this purpose, multispectral imagery WorldView-2 and Landsat 8 are used. Work emphasis on distribution of each phase of forest development affected by bark beetle. According to selected legend, involving multiple stages of damaged but also recovering forest, the images are classified by Neural Network, Support Vector Machine and object classification methods. Application of these methods on selected images required a suitable choice of parameters and rules to achieve optimal results. The results of this thesis compare and evaluate the final classification. Another outcome of this work is to evaluate the influence of the processed images WorldView-2 and Landsat 8 on the final classification performance. All work results are assessed by overall precision, error matrix and kappa coefficient. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Shaping of Students' Attitudes in Geographical Education - The Issue of Ips Typographus Outbreaks
Faflák, Jiří ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hanus, Martin (referee)
Shaping of students' attitudes in geographical education - the issue of Ips typographus outbreaks Abstract The diploma thesis deals with shaping the students' attitudes by utilising various texts during the geography classes. This experiment is shown on particular problem of Spruce Bark Beetle in the National Park of Šumava. There are two main streams towards this issue of Spruce Bark Beetle-one of them promotes the idea of incorporating the human intervention, while reducing the disaster, the other follows the opposite attitude towards the outbreak of the Spruce Bark Beetle, and that is not to intervene at all and to leave the destructed vegetation to regenerate. The backbone of the thesis is represented by a survey that aims at finding attitudes towards the problem mentioned above. Moreover, the survey also questions the way the attitudes change depending on critical reading of distinctive texts. Two main questions are posed in this research. The results are graphically depicted and commented upon in the thesis. The research shows the extent to which it is possible to influence the students' opinion utilising quality study texts. Key words: Spruce Bark Beetle (Ips typographus), National park Šumava, Spruce Bark Beetle outbreak, geographical education, critical thinking, active reading, shaping of attitudes
Negotiation of the limits - limits of the negotiation. Case study of the actor network influencing the conditions of Tepla Vltava preservation (NP Šumava)
Endrštová, Veronika ; Novotná, Hedvika (advisor) ; Grygar, Jakub (referee)
In my graduation thesis I have considered how the nature protection is being negotiated and legitimated within the case of canoeing on the river Teplá Vltava in NP Šumava. I have identified the human and non-human actors' network influencing the case and addressed the role they've played during the negotiation process. Based on the qualitative analyses of semi-structured interviews and documents I have revealed the key factors determining the actors' attitude towards the process. The conception of nature and the reference to the place have been revealed as the most important ones. In connection to both of them I have tried to find out the way how actors interpret the key factors and what kind of consequences it takes with. Through the factors I have reconstructed the whole case and analyzed how the actors use politics and expertise as their strategy within the decision making process. The whole study is based on the theory of social construction of reality (Berger and Luckham 1999) and the actor-network theory (Latour 2003). Key words: nature protection, actor-network, negotiation, decision-making process, canoying, pearloyster, Teplá Vltava, NP Šumava.
