Bohumil Doboš, Ph.D. Abstract This thesis examines the role that the Iberian Peninsula might play within the European Union's efforts for energy integration, while also analysing the potential of this region to produce and export energy from renewable sources and renewable gases through the development of renewable industrial capacities. The research looked at official documents and legislation from the EU, as well as reports from expert groups and international institutions to collect and analyse data regarding energy consumption, production capacity and interconnectivity in Iberia and its neighbouring region. The research showed promising data for a largely untapped renewable potential across Portugal and Spain, accompanied by optimal conditions for a large-scale production of green hydrogen, which allowed us to conclude that the Iberian Peninsula can become one of the main hydrogen corridors in the world in the near future, contributing to the clean energy transition in Europe and the European neighborhood. Italian Foreign Policy towards Libya in the Context of Externalization of Migration Control

Since approximately the 1990s, the countries of southern Europe have been developing a policy of so-called externalization or transferring responsibility for immigration and asylum procedures and obligations to other countries, in response to the growing waves of immigration. Since the beginning of the century, Italy and Libya have been developing various forms of this cooperation, with dynamic changes based on the internal political situation in both countries. This thesis examines the development of the given policy on the part of Italy after what is probably the biggest qualitative shift in mutual relations, i.e. after the events of the Arab Spring and the change of the Libyan regime. The aim is therefore to analyze the nature and development of the conception of Italian foreign policy towards Libya in the area of migration, from the position of the executive leaders of this policy, i.e. the prime ministers and the ministers of the interior and foreign affairs of the governments of Matteo Renzi, Paolo Gentiloni and Giuseppe Conte (2014-2019). Biostratigraphical value of the Mediterranean planktic foraminifera.

The first part of the work deals with the general biology of planktonic foraminifera, shell morphology, and ecology. The following section concerns the middle Miocene period and its biostratigraphic division into biozones based on planktonic species in subtropical areas and the Mediterranean region. The next part includes a brief overview of chemostratigraphy using strontium and its use in dating. The practical section includes dating methods based on biostratigraphy and chemostratigraphy, and their subsequent use in dating samples from southern Spain. The final part summarizes the results of both methods and their interpretation.
Diversity of the geotrupide genus Jekelius (Coleoptera: Geotrupidae)

The first part of this thesis focuses on the family Geotrupidae, with special focus on the representatives of the genus Jekelius. It summarizes the present and historical taxonomic concepts and phylogenetic relationships within this family. Moreover, the morphology of adults and larvae and the geographical distribution of individual taxa are described. In the section on the biology and ecology of the family, emphasis is placed especially on feeding strategies, breeding behaviour and parental care. The results of this thesis consist of three parts, 1) taxonomy, 2) molecular analyses, and 3) flow cytometry. The first part brings a taxonomic revision of the Jekelius brullei species complex defined here. This part focuses on redescribing each known species, as well as describing additional species not yet formally described. This thesis defines the distribution ranges of each species based on previously published literature and our own data. Molecular analyses performed in this thesis generated a phylogenetic tree including a significant part of the species of the Jekelius brullei species complex. Genetická struktura mediteránních populací kaloně Rousettus aegyptiacus

5 Abstract The genus Rousettus represents the only fruit bat genus distributed both in Asia and Africa reaching northern distributional limits of the Pteropodidae family. This unusual distribution pattern is related to the ability of echolocation, subsequent cave dwelling and probably other thermoregulatory and behavioural adaptations to relatively cold and dry climate. Methods for identification of genetically discrete populations were used in the presented study to acquire better comprehension of historical ways of colonization along with current dispersal and migratory patterns of the Egyptian fruit bat (Rousettus aegyptiacus) in the Mediterranean basin and adjacent range patches. Modern approaches to population and landscape genetics were applied on a dataset comprising 553 individuals from 72 localities using 20 nuclear microsatellites. Our results revealed a significant genetic distance of East African individuals and certain substructure in the northern part of the range. Cypriot population is clearly separated, and - for higher K - the isolation of colonies from Egyptian oases is highly supported. Climatology of mediterranean cyclones

This work deals with climatology of mediterranean cyclones. In first chapter short description of the Mediterranean area is given, second chapter depicts climate properties of Mediterranean focussed on air temperature, sea surface temperature and precipitations. Third chapter characterises Mediterranean cyclones, briefly brings some facts about their dividing and possibilities of their cyclogenesis in the Mediterranean area. In the last chapter the influence of cyclones at least partly originating in Mediterranean on the weather in the Czech Republic is studied.
Small mammals in diet of barn owl in the Eastern Meditarranean

The extensive material of skeletal remains of mammals from a diet of barn owl in the eastern Mediterranean has been processed and evaluated with different techniques of chorological and morphometric analysis. At least 8400 individuals of 45 species of insectivores, rodents and bats were found in our total collection of samples, which represents a significant portion of fauna of the region. We have evaluated a chorological composition of the taphocoenoses and the interregional differences, manifested primarily by differences in the representation of satellite and accessory elements. We found a highly significant impoverishment of the isolated island taphocenoses (Cyprus, Karpathos, partly on Crete), where Cricetidae, Arvicolidae, C. leucodon etc. are missing. On the other hand the essential part of the dominance structure takes up the Rattus rattus, which acts here as an invasive species, significantly more successful than in the ragged continental contexts. The Effects of Climate Change on Migration and Its Implication on the Mediterranean World

The effects of climate change and global warming and the conversations surrounding it are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. The future predictions of the impact of climate change on the planet present daunting challenges for people around the globe, especially for the Mediterranean littoral, which has been labeled as a climate "hot spot". The paper focuses on the effects of climate change on migration patterns in the Mediterranean region to understand what a warmer future in the Mediterranean may look like to develop policies and strategies that may mitigate some of the more negative outcomes. The paper's main objective is to answer the following question; what are the links between migration patterns and climate change in the Mediterranean region? To the question, it is important to first define and place the theoretical framework firmly in the context that the paper is covering, such as the political, economic, social, environmental and demographic factors. Once these factors are defined, they are applied to real-world case studies in the form of North Africa and Syria through Black, Adger, et al.'s framework of drivers of migration through qualitative and quantitative data that comes from secondary resources. The following dissertation studies the idea and mythologization of the "Hebrew Sea" in the writings and political activity of Vladimir (Ze'ev) Jabotinsky. Jabotinsky (1880-1940), the leader of the Zionist Revisionist movement, developed the concept of the "Hebrew Sea" as an ideal that was used in various fields of his Zionist activity. Within inter-Zionist politics it was utilized as a means of competing with the dominant ideological faction, labor Zionism, over contribution to the national revival and Zionist youth, and its greatest achievement was the establishment of the Civitavecchia Naval Academy in Italy. On the international-diplomatic level the "Hebrew Sea" was used in order to advance closer political relations between Revisionism and Italy - an endeavor Jabotinsky was interested in from an early stage of his Zionist career. The "Hebrew Sea" also played an important role in the development of Jabotinsky's unique ideal of national identity, which sought to depict the Jewish people as a Mediterranean, and not a desert or Middle Eastern people. This vision drew from contemporary theories about Hebrew identity, which associated the Hebrews with the Phoenician empire and not necessarily with Jewish monotheism. Causes of diversity in the Cape Floristic Region

The Cape Floristic Region (Capensis) is the smallest phytogeographical kingdom in the world with an area about 90,000 kmš (or 190,000 kmš if the succulent karoo is included). However, thanks to the subtropical climate influenced by the cold Benguel current and the isolated location behind the ridges of the Cape Mountains, it is characterized by an extremely diverse flora. There are about 11,000 species of plants, of which 79% are endemic. The Cape region shares many characteristics with other Mediterranean areas, but in many ways it is a unique environment. In this bachelor's thesis, the Cape flora is set in a global context and compared with other Mediterranean areas. Geological development, floristic and vegetation composition are described. The work also contains summarised information about the possible causes of high plant diversity and endemism of the Cape region.
