Strategy of the European Union in the area of information policy focused on libraianship

The aim of this thesis is to describe and evaluate policie, programs and projects of the European Union's information policy. It is focused on the librarianship with a reflection of Czech projects in this area. In the introduction, the so-called Bangemann report is mentioned, which is considered as a milestone in the development of information society. This report laid the foundation for other strategic documents, which were the eEurope, including following action plans. There are other two important documents mentioned in the following chapters, i.e. i2010 - European information society for growth and employment, and EUROPE 2020 - A strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. The core of the work is formed by a description of programs, funding European projects in the area of librarianship and projects, which originated from those programs. Given the trend of the 21st century is the digitization, projects in this area are described in this thesis. This is especially the European Digital Library, Europeana, and many other partial projects. The penultimate chapter is devoted to current projects in the field of digitization in the Czech Republic. Metodika implementace IIIF v českých digitálních knihovnách: se zvláštním zřetelem na systém digitální knihovny Kramerius

Překládaná metodika si klade za cíl nabídnout knihovnám i dalším paměťovým institucím v České republice doporučený postup při implementaci mezinárodního standardu IIIF do digitální knihovny či repozitáře. V současné době je zdigitalizována významná část dokumentů v knihovních fondech a výsledky digitalizace jsou prezentovány v různých systémech digitálních knihoven. V rámci zachování interoperability je nutné dodržovat jak standardy digitalizace (což je díky projektu Národní digitální knihovny v knihovním prostředí na vysoké úrovní), tak i standardy pro zpřístupňování digitálních dokumentů. IIIF je široce uplatňovaný v mezinárodní komunitách digitálních knihoven a repozitářů, přináší řadu přínosů pro uživatele a nabízí i další výhody pro samotný repozitář, který může snadno pomocí IIIF prezentovat svoje dokumenty a sbírky nezávisle na použitých technologiích a nabízet k nim i další pokročilé funkce.

Information Architecture of Selected Digital Libraries Web Interface

(in English): This thesis is dedicated to the analysis and evaluation of applied information architecture of two selected digital libraries - Manuscriptorium and Kramerius of the National Digital Library. Information architecture is one of several interconnected web design disciplines. For designing purposes, information architecture can be defined as a complex of elements and principles. Analysis and evaluation of the existing information architecture depends on its integration into the web sites context. The thesis contains theoretical part with definition of information architecture, its elements and principles of design. It describes evaluation methods of information architecture as a combination of qualitative and quantitative elements of web sites. Information architecture of digital libraries often means architecture of the system. The thesis contains a definition of a digital library and explains focus on access application. Testing of web usability is the best way of testing the information architecture of digital libraries. It enables to test information architecture from user's point of view. The conclusion provide results of the usability tests.

This master thesis deals with the spiritual progress pointing to a national self-awareness in the Enlightenment era from the beginning until 1848. The Enlightenment is an European phenomenon, which is characterized by a change of thinking, and self-awareness. This idea of tolerance and human emancipation contributed to the reforms of fundamental social, political and ecclesiastical changes. These changes result not only from a philosophical influences, but also from royal reforms during the reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II in particular. Kramerius' Newspapers in the Years 1790 - 1793 and Their Role in Shaping the Czech National Identity

This thesis deals with problematic of public space at the edge of modernity in Kramerius newspapers in Czech. The first part gatheres together the results from existing research literature, discusses the question of the relationship between modernity and postmodernity that leads to the theoretical and methodological background of authors approach. The second part deals with the influences that shape the final content of Kramerius' Newspapers. Newspapers are seen as part of a broader discursive network. It is also the reader, who gets a word in a process of establishing the final content. Among other, this chapter focuses on the issue of creating a community of readers and the public sphere in Bohemia in the late 18th century as a preconditon for ethnic or even the national identity. The last part concentrates on specific topics in Kramerius' Newspapers, the reporting and processing techniques, which aim is to shape the reader and his view on observed events. The work ends with a statement that Kramerius' Newspapers by the content as well as form created a wider readership community, which maintained a certain social ties and also shared a certain form of the public sphere. Digital library Kramerius and its use by students of historical sciences

The thesis focuses on the digital library Kramerius, that provides electronic access to mainly Bohemian documents from 19th and 20th century. Its aim is not to describe all parts of this system and its hinterland - the thesis focuses rather on the user point of view. The core of the thesis is formed by user survey, which is conducted among the students of historical disciplines at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague, namely the students enrolled in the study programme Historical sciences. In the first part, there is a characteristic of digital library Kramerius with the focus on the aspects, that are closely related with its usability (user interface, accessibility of documents, conversion of the original documents to machine- readable form). The user survey, which is described in the second part, is devided into two parts.
