Karel Hynek Mácha: The Image of the Author at the Secondary School Level Textbooks

The poet Karel Hynek Mácha belongs to one of the classic writers of the Czech literature. That is the reason why this personage and his work play an important role in the teaching of literature at secondary schools. This diploma thesis analyses an important element of teaching practice. It focuses on Mácha from the point of view of literature textbooks. On the basis of synchronous comparison of these textbooks, we can find out the striking similarity since all the texts choose the same events of Mácha's life. He is appraised nearly with the same terms. The texts create an image of Mácha, the image of the author, which as a significant paratext highly influences the way new texts and other didactic materials are created and literature taught. This diploma thesis is from its bigger part a casual study bringing a detailed analysis of the contemporary image of Karel Hynek Mácha in the literature textbooks. Moreover, it offers a look at its diachronous perspective as well. The key theoretical concept of this thesis is the term image of the author which has not been a fixed part of literary criticism terminology. The Motif of Dream in Selected Texts of 19th Century Czech Literature (Zeyer - Mácha - Erben)

This thesis examines the subject of dreams in fiction, focusing on selected Czech authors of the 19th century. In the selected titles of Czech writers (Karel Hynek Mácha, Karel Jaromír Erben, Julius Zeyer), the attention is paid primarily to the motif of dream. The emphasis is placed on the meaning of dreams in particular works (Mácha - Pouť krkonošská; Erben - Kytice; Zeyer - Dům U tonoucí hvězdy, Blaho v zahradě kvetoucích broskví, Stratonika, Jan Maria Plojhar, Radúz a Mahulena) and its possible use in the story. The thesis also evaluates the various forms and concepts of this literary theme. In the particular works, dreams have a different function, and therefore the thesis chose a comparative method between the single texts. The thesis aims to track both common and different elements of dream in the selected works. Throughout the text, the main focus is directed to the analysis of dreams, dreaming and used symbolism. The conclusion summarizes the main findings concerning the meaning of the cited dreams, especially in the context of the content of a particular work. Poetics and picturesqueness in landscape

This thesis offers a compact insight into landscape, its poetics and picturesqueness. It mentions not only basic landscape definition and landscape character but also its structures and typologies. Next, it describes how a person perceives the landscape trough centuries. The next chapter is devoted to Karel Hynek Mácha who was not only a famous poet and representative of Romanticism but also a painter and traveler. Thesis maps poetics and picturesque aspects trough poems, notes and sketches. Author then follows Karel Hynek Mácha. The main aim was to perceive the landscape differently. Main focus is on the poetic and picturesqueness only trough her own eyes, paper and pencil without modern technology and just feel the magic of the moment. Literary research is followed by a project which is situated near Karlovy Vary in the west part of the Czech Republic. Concretely is the landscape located nearby Andělská Hora. First, the thesis describes the character of the area by the help of analysis. There are historical analysis, actual condition, natural condition and trees inventory. Analysis is followed by the project which first contains general concept and its basic principles. Project also contains drawing of the individual sites. The project is aimed at both landscape solutions and restoration of small sacral architecture and other elements that will not only contribute to greater scenic beauty, but also support the genius loci of the local landscape. Proposed elements not only enrich the local landscape and enhance tourist's stay, but also get them to think. It is important to keep in mind the historical legacy and ancestral land.
