Communication of the Spokesman of the President of the Republic Jiří Ovčáček on the social network Twitter during the invasion of Ukraine

The master thesis deals with the political communication of Jiří Ovčáček, the spokesman of President Miloš Zeman, on the social network Twitter. It analyses his communication during the two months, before and after the invasion of Ukraine. It focuses on tweets from the official profile @PREZIDENTmluvci (now @exPRESIDENTCR) in the period from 24th January to 23rd March 2023. It compares communication strategies, examines developments and analyses how they create a construction of reality, especially in the context of "We (The Castle)" vs. "They (citizens)". It also examines the relationship between political communication and new media, with an emphasis on social networks. The theoretical part of the thesis provides an overview of political communication in different time periods and in the context of new media. The methodological part includes research questions, objectives, sample selection and methods of analysis. The analytical part of the thesis examines Jiří Ovčáček's communication as a spokesperson during the two months before and after the invasion of Ukraine. The first part analyses his communication before the invasion and the second part examines the first month of the ongoing invasion. Analysis of Jiri Ovcacek's Posts on Twitter

Since his appointment as the spokesperson of the President of the Czech Republic in December 2013, Jiří Ovčáček has been criticized by journalists, politicians, experts on ethics, and the public for his non-standard approach to the post. Particularly, Jiří Ovčáček has been reproached for his communication on the @PREZIDENTmluvci Twitter account. This thesis was working with the hypothesis claiming that Jiří Ovčáček does not behave in a standard way on the social network and does not use refined and serious language. The aim of this thesis was to analyse Jiří Ovčáček's Twitter communication style in terms of the acknowledged standards of a spokesperson. The thesis did not aim to verify the truth in Jiří Ovčáček's tweets, but it aimed to analyse to what extent the spokesperson's Twitter communication met the standards of the post. A sample of 300 tweets from 8th January to 19th February 2018 was analysed by means of the content analysis, particularly by the analytic-comparative method of stylistic analysis. Czech presidential elections 2018 on the spokesman's Twitter

The subject matter of this thesis is to analyse the content of the twitter account @PREZIDENTmluvci of Jiri Ovcacek, spokesperson of the President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman. Theoretical part includes the definition of political communication and its brief history. Furthermore, the work describes the modern practice of political communication. The theoretical part of the thesis also contains a chapter discussing the social network Twitter and offers a detailed look at Twitter accounts of the president of the United States Donald Trump and the Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš. The practical part of the thesis deals with the analysis of the profile of Jiri Ovcacek on the social network Twitter. The period chosen for the analysis was from 12 December 2017 to 12 February 2018, a month before and after the first day of the first round of the 2018 Czech presidential election. A sample of 358 posts was defined on Ovcacek's Twitter account. The profile is first characterized in general. Subsequently, the tweets of spokesperson Jiri Ovcacek are divided into basic categories. In the last part of the thesis, the 2018 presidential elections are subjected to analysis and further categorized.

Case "Hitler is gentleman" in Czech media: Peroutka, Zeman and Ovčáček (Case study)

The case of supposed (alleged) Ferdinand Peroutka's article Hitler is gentleman which caused on 27th January 2015 at the conference Let My People Live! in Prague president Milos Zeman filled up the Czech news media. The aim of this thesis is to explore and analyse how these case was displayed in the media and how have the media approached to this case. This work is trying to assess the extent of media content in these media, the presence and importance of the communication and is also focused on the deeper meaning of the investigated material. The goal was to bring a sight and aspects of the possible inclination of the media, as an institution, to either side of the dispute. Traditional media like television, radio and press, were the main research sample. In addition to Czech Television it was extended for a second public service medium Czech Radio. As an additional source of traditional media the newspaper Lidove noviny and the magazines Respekt and Reflex were chosen. The main actor of the case is the president of the state and his spokesman who tried to find a allegedly non-existent article. This work will therefore focus on the parsing and the analysis of aspects related to their appearance and action.
