Ideological affinity or political opportunism? Pro-Russian attitudes of euopeans political parties of the populist right. The Case of League and the Freedom Party of Austria in 2014-2019
Bartoš, Marek ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Šír, Jan (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis was to find out what reasons led the European right-wing populist parties to articulate their pro-Russian attitudes in the political and media environment after the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014.Based on two case studies, the paper analyzes pro-Russian attitudes of the European parties: Italian Lega,( English: League) and Austrian Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs, FPÖ,( English: The Freedom Party of Austria) between 2014 and 2019 in the European Parliament and in the media. It also examines the nature of this alliance from the perspective of political parties. The subject of the analysis was to monitor the degree of consistency of pro-Russian attitudes of both parties before and after they became a part of national governments, and the aim was to reveal whether the motivation of both parties was driven by ideological affinity with Russia, pragmatic motives, or a combination of both. At the same time, the paper tries to show how the real politics and rhetoric of populist parties change at the time when these parties are in power.
The Italian Romantic Polemic
Piptová, Ivana ; Hrbata, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Pelán, Jiří (referee)
This master thesis discusses the roots, concepts and the subsequent interpretations of the so- called "romantic discussion", which took place in Italy between the years 1816-1826. Based on the overview of selected debate entries and their critical interpretations, we will try to explain the relatively scarce attention paid to the Italian romanticism by critics outside of Italy. The polemic on romanticism started with the article "On the Manner and Usefulness of Translations" by Madame de Stael, in which the author as a solution to the crisis affecting Italian literature suggested to translate more of French and German production, as it already reflected the upcoming romantic aesthetics. This modest proposal sparked a fierce debate which gradually dealt not only with the question of adopting foreign cultural impulses, but also with need to redefine the roots of Italian cultural traditions and build a modern Italian identity. The most important responses to Madame de Staël's article - written by Ludovico di Breme, Giovanni Berchet and Pietro Borsieri - are now considered "manifestos" of Italian romanticism. Unfortunately the inputs by Giacomo Leopardi and Alessandro Manzoni, even though they are considered very interesting and intellectually stimulating, cannot be considered part of the discussion as...

Christian Democratic Party DC. Development and its position in the first Italian Republic to the so-called historic compromise
Květoňová, Petra ; Šušlíková, Lada (advisor) ; Gelnarová, Jitka (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on research of the position of the Christian Democratic Party of Italy in the system of the First Republic of Italy from its origin until the so-called historic compromise in the second half of the 70's of the 20th century. The Christian Democracy played a fundamental role in the process of forming of a new democratic republic. In the parliamentary election of 1948, which were crucial for further evolution of Italy, the Christian Democracy gained victory over the Italian Communist Party and its coalition partners, also thanks to its expressive anticommunist election campaign. Then a period of centrism began, therefore coalitions of smaller centrist parties were formed around the Christian Democracy to prevent the communist's access to governments. This conventio ad excludendum, leading to formation of the same or similar coalitions and so to the actual absence of political alternance, therefore had significant consequences for the whole party system of the First Republic of Italy, which can also be characterised as a particracy (partitocrazia). The thesis also analyses the internal structure of the party, its particular factions and, finally, also its relationship to the voters and especially to the regions of the so- called white subculture, where the Christian...
Hungarian-Italian cooperation in the years 1922 - 1940
Auzká, Tereza ; Mejstřík, Martin (advisor) ; Irmanová, Eva (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines Hungarian-Italian relations in the interwar period. The states in question were not satisfied with the post WW1 order in Europe and called for its revision. The main subject of this thesis is the political cooperation between the two countries at the governmental level, and touches upon the economic and military aspects of the partnership as well. The aim is to emphasize the importance of the Hungarian-Italian relations in the context of the history of interwar Europe and to contribute to the knowledge of the topic in the Czech environment. This paper searches for the reasons that led to the collaboration of the countries and focuses on the importance of this cooperation for both states. The first part presents the ideological and practical reasons for the cooperation and subsequent chapters concern its concrete steps. The Hungarian-Italian cooperation is divided into two periods (1927 - 1933 and 1933 - 1940) by the appointment of Adolf Hitler Chancellor of Germany in 1933, which greatly influenced the development of Hungarian-Italian relations. The conclusion evaluates the possibilities of the Hungarian and Italian statesmen to act autonomously and independently of Germany to promote their revisionist and expansionist ambitions. At the same time the conclusion...
Legal regulation of undertaking business by foreigners in the Czech Republic and Italy: a comparison
Hísková, Eva ; Růžička, Květoslav (advisor) ; Brodec, Jan (referee)
I chose the topic of comparing the legal modifications of the business activities of foreigners because I consider this topic "a starting point" for the comparison of other areas of law, for example, insolvency law, company law, labour law etc. I chose the comparison with Italian law mainly because I am a graduate of FF UK (Philosophical Faculty of Charles University), specialization in germanic-romance languages and from 1996 I have been a legal translator in both Italian and German. For maximum clarity I have divided the entire work into three parts - History, Concepts and Current legal modifications. Further, I have systematically divided these parts into chapters in order that any interested individuals could easily orient themselves in the work. Many differences can be found in the current legal modifications of both countries, however, since both countries are under the influence of community law the differences are not so distinct. I consider the most significant difference in the legal modifications of both countries to be that the Czech Republic has set out in the European direction as late as the nineties due to historical and political reasons. This relates to the distinct development during these years, signifying the de-socialization of business activities and liberalization and the...
Irregular Female Labour Migration from Ukraine for Labour to the Elderly Care Sector in Italy
Zibner, Rahel ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Ledeneva, Alena (referee)
This research deals with irregular female migration from Ukraine to Italy for employment as caregivers to the elderly. The main questions to be addressed are: 'What are the reasons for Ukrainian women to migrate irregularly to such a large extent to Italy? Which important aspects are connected to their employment as a caregiver to the elderly from the individual point of view of Ukrainian women? In this thesis I want to explain the reasons for Ukrainian women to take up work as irregular caregivers in Italy, giving insight into the organization of daily life of irregular Ukrainian care givers. Practical examples will be given that examine the help women receive from Ukrainian professional and private networks. Despite information gaps, the combination of expert and migrant interviews in combination with the analysis of research studies and secondary sources produced important findings on this topic. Firstly, irregular female migration is economically motivated and women are driven to Italy through specific push and pull factors. Secondly, employment and daily life as a caregiver to the elderly in Italy entails economic advantages, but psychological disadvantages for Ukrainian women. 1
