Trends in social communication

The electronic monography "Trends in Social Communication" is an academic text reflecting changes in social communication in the last few years from the perspective of information science, information behaviour and information technology. It focuses on the behaviour and perception of communication, communication channels and information phenomena across generations. It focuses on the impact of information technology on communication, especially mobile technology. It also elaborates on the education and competences of seniors in the digital age.

Qualman's theory of "socialnomics" and its form in practice

The aim of this thesis is to present the "Socialnomics" theory of Erik Qualman and its form in Czech setting. The first part of thesis outlines the terminology of social media and introduces several social media that are known world wide. The second part analyzes the theory itself including its criticism. The last part of the thesis summarizes the situation in Czech republic when speaking of "Socialnomics".

Information behavior and learning in the context of new media: Digital games and simulations as complex systems for information representation

This dissertation considers digital games and simulations as complex systems of information representation and explores their specific aspects influencing the process of knowledge acquisition. It focuses on process of mental model creation, information behavior and situational emotional and cognitive engagement. The methodological approach is grounded in variety of disciplines including information science, educational science, new media studies and computer science. The main method used is educational experiment. The use of digital game-based and non-digital game-based educational intervention is compared to similar program based on traditional schooling methods and classic lectures. The experiment outcomes are divided into four large segments exploring influence of digital games on process of mental models creation, motivation for future information behavior, situational emotional experience and social interaction.

Providing Access to Electronic Information Resources at Jan Palach Library CUFA

The bachelor thesis deals with providing access to electronic resources (ER) at Jan Palach Library CUFA. The theoretical part of the thesis defines term ER, describes their typology, deals with acquisition and management and introducing tools for using them. The thesis describes experiences of Jan Palach Library CUFA with providing access to ER and deals with information behavior of ER users. The aim of the thesis is to describe a situation in ER management on example of an university library on Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. The practical part of the thesis is an user research on the method of the survey which results that situation in ER use is slowly getting better, users do not feel foreign language ER production as problem and just only small group of users attended workshop dedicated to ER, because users do not feel the need to. Behavior of the Czech users on the Internet
