Filip, František ; Novotný, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Svoboda, David (referee)
The diploma thesis "Donated existence: Theological analysis of ‚élan vital' in Henri Bergson's work" presents an analysis of the notion of "vital impetus" of the French philosopher Henri Bergson in order to examine the potential contibution of this concept for contemporary theology and for human society itself. The composition of the thesis consists of five basic parts that correspond to the principal chapters. The first chapter is dedicated to the life of Henri Bergson. The theme of the second chapter is a general introduction to the method of Bergson and the main ideas of Bergson's work. The third chapter focuses directly on the concept of "vital impetus" as it appears and is gradually developed in Bergson's work. The subject of the fourth chapter is a summary of the reception of the idea of "vital impetus". Based on the theological reception, the final chapter examines the potential contribution of this concept to today's theological discussion and the life of human society. The work concludes that although the concept of "vital impetus" is based on the scientific findings that have been already overcome, it can remain constantly inspiring if we reflect what the author wanted to express through him about the reality of our world.

Sedláčková, Dagmar ; Čeněk, David (advisor) ; Svatoňová, Kateřina (referee)
(in English): The subject of this bachelor thesis is the neoformalist analysis of the film "I love you, I love you" by the French director Alain Resnais. The main aim is to show through neoformalist analysis how the film works with the concept of memory, recollections, and non-chronological narrative. The key element of this approach is the recognition of the dominant element of the film, which in the case of "I love you, I love you" is Bergson's concept of time and memory. The thesis consists of two parts; the first section is focused on cultural and economical context, the major part is a neformalist analysis. !
Flannery O'Connor as satirical priest
Petrušová, Gabriela ; Wallace, Clare (advisor) ; Ulmanová, Hana (referee)
49 Summary Although her literary career was short, Flannery O'Connor made a great impression with her peculiar characters which are probably the most unsympathetic ones in the world of fiction. These self-indulged, ignorant individuals remain in our minds long after we have finished our reading. This fact perhaps results from the notion that Flannery O'Connor herself did not have sympathy for them either. Despite her deeply religious point of view, her characters are not treated in the light of assumed Christian humanism. On the contrary, at the end they are facing violent deaths, they are robbed of their artificial limbs and every time when it is possible they are in the centre of her scornful satirical and acid humor. This thesis aims to discuss the specific role of the last mentioned phenomenon and that is O'Connor's acid and satirical humor which interwoven with religious concerns plays a specific role in her fiction. The primary aim of the first chapter is the introduction of the tradition of Southern literature and contextualization of Flannery O'Connor unique place within the Southern literary canon. The first chapter, in addition, discusses the role, history and use of humor in Southern literature. Chapter two then shifts the focus on the special quality of O'Connor's humor in particular; moreover...

The Conception of Time in Virginia Woolf´s Works
GEYEROVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis is focused on the conception of time in Virginia Woolf's works. This phenomenon is mainly described and analysed in the novels Mrs Dalloway and To the Lighthouse, but the minor part of the thesis is devoted to the short story "The Mark on the Wall" and the essay "Mr Bennett and Mrs Brown." The aim of the thesis is to depict the way Woolf works with time, to suggest that her time conception may be applied to the majority of her works, and that it is closely related to the scientific, artistic and philosophical context of the turn of the 20th century.
