Comparison of approaches to the radical Islam and the integration of Muslims in selected EU member states
Raffaj, Ivan ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Knutelská, Viera (referee)
The thesis offers a comparison of integration of Muslims and approaches toward radical Islam in three countries: Germany, France, and Sweden. These three countries used to represent three main integration types. The thesis argue that these three types do not longer exist and tries to verify convergence hypothesis. This is done by the analysis of particular selected aspects of integration of Muslims and counter-radicalization and counter-terrorism measures related to radical Islam in every examined country. The thesis further evaluates the effectiveness of integration and counter-radicalization approaches in selected countries and indicates which country appears to be the most effective based on selected criteria. Based on the analysis of individual countries, the thesis assumes which integration and counter-radicalization approaches or their combination toward Muslims might be the most effective.

Šubertová, Aneta ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Bauer, Paul (referee)
Šubertová Aneta Abstract My bachelor thesis, "Immigration Policy of France during the Presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy" deals with the attempts of french government to reform french immigration legislation and implement stricter immigration policy towards foreigners. The issue of immigration is one of the top domestic policy issues today and was also used in the presidential election campaign of Nicolas Sarkozy. During the financial crises increased xenophobia in French society. Government tried to implement a selective immigration policy and deeper integration foreigners to the french society. They also tried to restrict immigration based on the right to family reunification, which is currently the main part of immigrants in french society. This thesis is theoretical analysis, which map and analyze the main laws that the government adopted to restrict the flow of immigration. I analyze immigration law from 2007, which should restrict family reunification and law from 2011, which implemented 3 directive of European Union into the French law. I also mention the repatriation of Roma into the country of origin. These measures provoked a stormy reaction in the professional and general public but also among deputies and Senators. Severely measures were finally canceled because of their failure or criticism.
French policy in Libya after overthrowing Gaddafi: security consolidation or democratization?
Mistrík, Peter ; Najšlová, Lucia (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
The English school of international relations claims that the national interests of states and their behaviour in international relations are not only driven by selfish motives, but the so- called enlightened self-interest as well. The functioning of the community of the states is governed by common rules, laws, values and interests. According to the Solidarist current of the English school it is even acceptable to limit the sovereignty of the state which seriously violates international standards such as the protection of human rights. A discrepancy between the protection of the states' sovereignty and the protection of the rights of individuals was bridged by the Responsibility to protect doctrine adopted at the UN World Summit in 2005. This doctrine has served France and other states intervening in Libya as a support of the legality of their cause. However, the doctrine does not address the conditions of the intervention solely. It also delegates a responsibility to rebuild the war-torn countries to the interventionists. Therefore, it is an appropriate tool for the evaluation of the interests and motivations that have shaped the policies and activities of France in Libya. The analysis suggests that the primary motivation of France has undergone a fundamental change during the course of...
Phenomenon of Strik: Analysis of the Dynamics of Industrial Conflicts in Contemporary France
Sabová, Katarína ; Perottino, Michel (advisor) ; Matějka, Ondřej (referee)
This thesis aims to outline the different dynamics of strike activity and thus understand the basic principles of industrial conflicts in France in the 90s of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century. To study this problem we decided to use a dual approach. A quantitative one, which helped us to critically evaluate the statistical resources of the Ministry of Labour and to made first assumptions about decline of strike activity in France. We used as well qualitative approach in order to understand the use of strikes in various conflict situations. We tried, based on several practical examples of protests, to identify the factors and mechanisms explaining the constraints that may prevent representatives of trade unions use strikes as mobilization agents. Last but not least, our study is realized in the context of the ongoing debate in the French academic environment regarding the conversion of the repertoire of collective action. Unlike works that try to apprehend this transformation giving emphasis on the "new" forms of protest, our goal was to answer questions leading to an understanding of the conditions of continuation of the strike as a traditional way of collective struggle.

Záhradníková, Lea ; Filipová, Lucie (advisor) ; Dimitrov, Michal (referee)
The thesis compares the measures of integration policies of Nicolas Sarkozy and Angela Merkel in the period 2005/2006-2011. Main attention is paid to Muslim immigrants and their immigration to France and Germany and especially their integration to these societes. The work confirms the hypothesis that the French integration policy during the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy showed more restrictive elements than the German one in the period of the governments of Chancellor Angela Merkel. This thesis is further examining similar and different features of the integration policies of these two actors.
Louisiana purchase
Keltošová, Jana ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Robbins, David Lee (referee)
The main purpose of the thesis is to illustrate a process of gradual development of America's diplomatic relations and skills which consequently led to the Louisiana Purchase. This land acquisition has been effected by a culmination of a series of events on two different continents. Therefore, the Purchase was not an act of signing, but an act which defined the state's existence, recognition, and acceptance by other nations. It is not sufficient to be aware of the events taking place shortly before the Purchase and therefore the paper presents political, diplomatic, industrial, and commercial reasons of England, Spain, and France which gave rise to the United States. The thesis is divided into respective centuries with their most important events and outcomes of the mutual negotiations between the three above mentioned Europeans powers. The moment when the English subjects became independent, later declaration of Independence, and the French Revolution are the examples of important milestones which eventually resulted in the land acquisition. However, it is not correct to think that once the problem of the area is settled, the future steps are a lot easier to take. Only then the issues such as the application of law, subjugation, and later development of the state become very significant and...
Application of laws of gender equality by French political parties
Šubertová, Aneta ; Matějka, Ondřej (advisor) ; Tomalová, Eliška (referee)
In 1999, France, after a long and dragging debate, revised its Constitution in order to enable the installation of gender quotas in elected political bodies. In 2000 'parity laws' were enacted. They defined the parameters of these quotas that applied strictly to elections of proportional electoral system, such as elections into municipal councils with over 3.500 inhabitants, regional and European elections, and Senate elections in areas with three and more senators. In elections with plurality voting system, such as legislative elections and Senate elections with one or two senators, the parity was supposed to be achieved by imposing of financial penalty for those political parties that would not comply with the parity laws. This diploma thesis describes a public discussion that had taken place in France before the adoption of the gender parity imposed by the law. It compares four major political parties- the Republicans, Socialist party, The Greens and the National Front. The research analyzes their compliance with parity laws and their implementation on their candidate lists in parliamentary as well as Senate elections. The aim of this diploma thesis is to show and compare the rhetoric and the actions of the studied political parties with regards to the parity. The research analyzes the lists of...
