Vacková, Dana ; Charypar, Michal (advisor) ; Kudlová, Klára (referee)
"The Changes of Faust and Mephisto in the 19th Century Opera Libreti": The work compares the characters of the scholar Faust and the devil Mephistopheles from J. W. Goethe's "Faust" with the chosen opera libretti adapting the same subject. In the titles we chose, i. e. in Goethe's "Faust", Boito's "Mephistopheles", Gounod's "Faust", and Berlioz's "La damnation de Faust", we devote our attention to the changes of the literary characters. Goethe's "Faust" is a central work of art which could serve as a model for other authors, each of whom, however, adapted the precursory text according to their ideas. The work compares the common and the different features of the Faustian and Mephistophelian motifs. The metamorphoses of the characters and the endings of the single stories are summed up in conclusion. The authors were interested in the same motif, i. e. in the fight between the good and the evil, heaven and hell, God and the devil. Mephistopheles makes a bet with the God, Faust's soul being at a stake. Faust, searching for absolute knowledge, makes a deal with Mephistopheles. Each of the afore-mentioned authors' inspiration by Goethe reached a different goal. The work focuses on the changes of both the central characters of the scholar and the devil. Other characters are taken into account only when...

Imlaufová, Markéta ; Smrčka, Jiří (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This master thesis deals with the topic of temptation in three Czech Theatrical Dramas of the 1970's and 1980's, inspired by the legend of Faust. These dramatic works represent different model approaches of dealing with such a topic. Thesis focuses on the principle of evil and its functioning. The temptation by Devil is therefore defined as Mephistophelian seduction, which occurs in drama plays selected as a subject of this thesis. The thesis analyzes and describes Mephistophelian seduction and its realization in theatrical dramas. Thesis elaborates the mechanism of evil principle and examines how the main protagonists are influenced in their acting and behaviour by this power. This thesis brings the power of evil into the wider context of "higher power" and describes relations between the power of evil and totalitarian power. On this base the historical and political context of the lives of the authors is considered as an important element. Based on comparison of all these aspects the principle of Mephistophelian seduction is reflected within its existential dimension. It narrates its classical form of Goethe?s adaptation which also becomes a base for the second part of the thesis. It shows an outline of what we know about the topic up to the present times, it defines basic concepts which can be found in the story. It also focuses on other forms of adaptations, not only on those before the Goethe?s one but even on the later ones up to the present times. It searches for the origin of the theme by means of an overview of the literature which is connected to it also in alternations from other domestic and foreign authors. Except Goethe, Christopher Marlow, Jan Švankmajer, Václav Havel or Jan Patočka are mentioned, too. An analysis of the story also can be found in the first part of the thesis thanks to which various aspects of archetypes should be discovered, according to Vladimir Propp. At the same time it should deal with the possibilities of the interpretation from the psychoanalytical point of view, the fact of what role the actors have in the story and what they can symbolize. The objective of the thesis is to apply the ascertained facts on the topic of the puppet theater in connection to the theme of Faust which is the subject of the second part. It interprets by means of particular figures from various authors in connection to their anamnesis. It uses the data obtained in the first part of the thesis and the methods of the analysis of the fine artifact used in the atelier of the art therapy. The thesis observes the problems of conscious and unconscious conflicts of the human personality which also should be uncovered by the story of Faust. The particular figures were interpreted during the participation of their authors, individually. There were samples of ten works and the authors were chosen by the method of wrapping up a snowball, every one provided KTC. Hidden latent contents which are the result of conscious and unconscious conflicts of the personalities of the authors were found in the figures. The characters of the story that can represent the particular elements of the structural plane of the psychical apparatus are fundamental. At the same time the topic points out the fact of who controls whom by what means in the form of material and also immaterial estates. The theme asks for the conscience of the author, for that what or who tempts it, for its potential for manipulation, often in the plane of the partner relationships.
