Evaluation of geographical textbooks in terms of environmental ethics

It is clear that the nature needs to be protected. But reasons for this need varies with individuals. Enviromental ethics deals with reasons why the nature should be protected and with attitude to the nature itself. In enviromental ethics there are several lines of thought. Here will be paid attention to theese five - theocentrism, athropocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and lifeboat ethics. The aim of this study is to assess the level of representation of lines of though metioned above in Czech geographical textbooks. Considering that there are many of geographical textbooks, only textbooks designated for different types of high schools of publishers NČCGS, SPN, Fortuna and Fragment are evaluated.
Evaluation of Slovak geography textbooks in terms of approach to environmental ethics

This bachelor's thesis pursues Slovak geography textbooks for secondary schools in the aspects of their attitude towards environmental ethics. It investigates the ratio of differently oriented statements in particular textbooks. The statements are distributed into five principal categories of environmental ethics - anthropocentrism, theocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and ethical evolution. The author compares the findings of this thesis with the findings of analogical thesis which dealt with Czech geography textbooks.
Ecological ethics

The issue of ecological ethics has often been discussed because it is important for the development of further generations. Nature and culture are not at the same level, yet culture is subordinate to nature. Because of human influence, the harmony of nature is endangered and we live in an ecological crisis. This master's thesis compares the opinions of experts in Czech environment who perceive the ecological ethics, collisions of nature and culture and environmental sphere from the point of philosophy. In the first part, there is a theoretical basis of ecological ethics and the elementary classification. Further, the development of ecological ethics in the Czech phylosophical thinking is presented. In the main part, the author always explores two selected ideas of Czech professionals - Erazim Kohák, Josef Šmajs, Hana Librová, Petr Jemelka and Jan Patočka. The conclusion of the thesis is that although all the authors come from various conceptions, their results are more or less corresponding. It is fundamental to accept a personal responsibility and not to long for power and profit. The ethics of garden

The goal of this diploma thesis called "Ethics of the Garden" is to introduce the ecological-ethical issue and the closely related question about the role of a mankind in the world. First of all, the main aim is to introduce the ecological-ethical concept of the American author Michael Pollan. In this concept, a garden is viewed as a source of elementary ethical principals that are applicable in the relationship of mankind to nature. That is why it is called "Ethics of the Garden". The practical part of the thesis is dedicated to the individual principles of this concept. It introduces its characteristics and it also gives specific examples of the practical application of the principles of the "Ethics of the garden" within the context of central Europe. Here only very few original ecosystems (untouched by human intervention) have survived and it is hard to find an ideal solution for the coexistence of mankind and nature. A green canon? What, how and why "the colourful and the green" read.

The thesis is based on questionnaire survey conducted among 136 so called "green and colourful" respondents. The term "the colourful and the green" comes from the professor of environmental sociology, Hana Librová, and refers to people living the ecologically beneficial lifestyle that can be characterized by voluntary or intentional modesty. The target of the survey was to find out whether these people are influenced in their lifestyle by books or which books would articulate their worldview the best; what books they resonate with. Often repeated titles formed a "green influential literary canon" that is further analyzed in the thesis. First, the canon as a whole is examined, second the three most frequent books are studied with an ecocritical approach. In the canon, a minimum titles from the field of deep ecology, nature writing as well as science fiction or utopia were registered. Despite the expectation, there were many books related to New Age movement in the canon as well as pop-cultural spiritual writings. Nevertheless, books concerning native americans, together with eco- philosophical works largely dominated. Enviromental responsibility in pre-schoool education

ABSTRAKT The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical and it deals with a general description of the term of enviromental education. The effort of the first part is to summarize the main trends and approaches in enviromental education. This part of the thesis is based on the study of technical literature and it becomes the base for the processing of the second crucial part. The core of the practical application part of the thesis are suggestions of practical training which aim is to lead to environmental responsibility. The practical part is divided into projects with these themes: Water, Forest, Meadow, Waste, Garden in kindergarten and Animals. These projects can be realized gradually during the school year which is called "the Year of the Elf Medovníček". The Elf Medovníček is a character that accompanies children in kindergarten during the school year. The practical part also contains photographs illusrtating the activities. An example of teaching methods and their didactic description is stated to each project. The objective of the thesis is not only to sketch and sum up the approaches to environmental education, but also to process practical outputs and subjects by studying the bases of enviromental approaches and literature. The practical outputs and subjects should give children insight into the practical enviromental education. This diploma thesis makes the efforts to highlight the fact that not only knowledge of nature and environmental topics, but mainly love and esteem for it may raise environmentally responsible person.
Draft project of leisure for the middle school age children with a focus on enviromental education and education towards values

The thesis focuses on the draft project for the middle school age children. The theoretical part characterizes the children of the middle school age. Further, it describes moral thinking and the perception of values from the perspective of history. The next chapters are dedicated to the education towards values and environmental ethics. The practical part includes the didactical draft project. The draft contains activities, which help to develop ecological thinking together with the associated value system of an individual. The main idea of the whole project is the identification of the individual with nature as with himself. There are also used non-directive methods of moral education that help the individuals to realize the responsibility for their behavior on the Earth.
