Selected places of memory in Chodsko

This bachelor thesis aims to describe the history of the creation and subsequent second life of two selected monuments in Chodsko. This includes a description of the initial idea regarding the creation of the monuments, the course of fundraising activities, the selection of the author, the unveiling ceremony, and the subsequent second life of the monument during the World War II. The thesis also looks at how the buildings were received by the general public and places the selected monuments in the context of the period. The primary sources of information are mainly contemporary documents, periodicals, correspondence from individual committees, chronicles and photographs. In describing the events or persons to whom the monuments are dedicated, the work is based primarily on scholarly literature.
Folk music as a part of traditions in Chod region

The main purpose of this bachelor thesis is to introduce the rich folk activity of the Chodsko region, especially the musical elements within certain local traditions. The thesis envisages the music as essential part not only of customs and traditions but also of the lifestyle typical for this frontier region in general. Besides going through significant dates, this text discusses the development of the folklore in villages and in the capital itself - Domažlice city, the cradle of Chodsko region's festivities.
Linguistic Picture of Chods

The aim of this work is to compile the linguistic picture of Chods, that is how the word is fixed in the language and the conceptual system of a native speaker. For this purpose, canonical literature has been chosen that thematizes Chods, furthermore some Chod newspapers, corpus syn2013pub and Jindřich's song-books and a few collections of Chod fairytales and legends representing folk literature. This thesis has also drawn upon systemic data, i. e. dictionaries wherein the word Chod can be found in order to record the denotations of this word. Next, the thesis explored the etymology of the word Chod and its synonyms, which also helps to clarify the objective of this work. All the data have been analysed and the connotations, collocations and also attittude towards the dennotation have been gathered that have been featured in more sources to compile the linguistic picture of Chods. Among the most frequent collocations and connotations confirmed in more than one source are Chodsko, border service, privileges and duties of Chods, Kozina and Lomikar, the uprising, Újezd, rebels, defenders against the Germans, nacionalism, freedom, a traditional costume, dialect, music, bagpipes, pies, Chod festival, ceramics, farmers, a banner, a dog, stubborness, repulsion, pride, distinctiveness, togetherness, hard...
Folk culture in Chodsko and options of use in the primary school enviroment

The thesis focuses on folk culture in Chodsko. The main focus is folk songs and collectors. It provides an insight into the differences between the Upper and Lower Chodsko region. Reader will find important historical and present personalities for regional folk culture. At the end of the thesis there is a proposal for working with Chodsko's folk culture in the primaey school environment. Composition of Population, Families and Households in Chodsko at the End of the 19th Century

Composition of Population, Families and Households in Chodsko at the End of the 19th Century Abstract The knowledge of historical life of population is very important. This thesis is historical-demographic research of Chodsko in the second half of the 19th century. The main aim of this thesis is to compare the composition of population, families and households. The chosen data were for years 1869, 1880, 1890 and 1900. The years when the first censuses were taken in Czech Lands. Population, families and households were analyzed separately using historical-demographic, demographic analysis and statistics methods. The results showed that inhabitants of Chodsko were not so different from the inhabitants from the rest of Czech Lands. The most common were patriarchal nuclear households. Families were mostly about average size with two to four members. Hypothesis that the countryside population had more family members was not confirmed. This thesis is focused on folkloristic work in Chodsko at the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century. The earlier folkloristic work in this area is represented by Božena Němcová. Then there are basic pieces of information about folklore area Chodsko. The authors published their findings in the ethnological magazine Český lid published by Čeněk Zíbrt 1892 - 1914 and then from 1924 to Zíbrt's death in 1932.
