The economic presence of China in Africa
Kašperová, Magda ; Kašpar, Václav (advisor) ; Vošta, Milan (referee)
The Popular Republic of China occupies an important position on the African continent. Although China and Africa have already been in contact in antiquity, the intensive cooperation had started after the Popular Republic of China had been created in 1949. While the Chinese government had focused on its political interests in the second half of the twentieth century, the Chinese strategy is now dominated by economic interests. The bilateral trade exceeded 100 billion USD in 2008 and China has become the second most important trading partner of African countries. The Chinese presence is significant in many economic areas. The Sino-African cooperation is not only characterized by the export of African raw materials but also the Chinese foreign direct investment in Africa have become increasingly important and the Chinese enterprises are very successful in the construction industry. The aim of this thesis is to analyze China's position on the African continent and present how intensive the Sino-African relations are.
Chinese soft power in Asia
Janáková, Zuzana ; Druláková, Radka (advisor) ; Knotková, Vladimíra (referee)
Within the context of the foreign policy of the People's Republic of China, one hears frequently about Chinese "soft power". This work deals with Chinese soft power in three Asian subregions - Southeast Asia, Japan & South Korea and Central Asia - in order to verify to what extent can soft power be regarded a universal approach in Chinese foreign policy. After introducing the concept of soft power this work is aiming to explain the characteristics of Chinese soft power, define the potentials and limits of Chinese soft power resources and explain how soft power corresponds with China's general strategy of foreign policy. In order to create an image of Chinese soft power in each of the three subregions, I define the key soft power tools according to which I measure Chinese soft power: Bilateral and multilateral diplomacy, promotion of culture and language (mainly through Confucius institutes), education of foreign students at Chinese universities and foreign aid. The rest of work is an analysis of employment of these tools in the respective subregions.

Corporate Social Responsibility in China: Path to Sustainable Growth (Selected Problems)
Kuksová, Magdalena ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Knotková, Vladimíra (referee)
Social, cultural and technological changes of recent decades led to a new dominant feature of the world economy in the form of globalization. This coincided with the extraordinary growth of international political institutions that seem unable to control the process of globalization and its effects. Multinational corporations have become drivers of economic growth in the world. They have outsourced production to developing countries with low standards and weak legislation, particularly to China, where violation of Chinese and international law occurs frequently. No one assumes responsibility for this situation. The question therefore arises whether such economic growth can be legitimate and sustainable. The master thesis focuses on working conditions related to the production of goods in China. The aim of this master thesis is to try to determine to what extent the concept of corporate social responsibility can contribute to sustainable growth and improve working conditions in China. The thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter contains a theoretical introduction to social responsibility, the second chapter shows the influx of foreign businesses into China and its impacts on society. The third to the fifth chapter introduce attempts by various authorities and corporations to address the problem of harsh working conditions and violations of legal norms. The sixth chapter encourages consumer to take responsibility. The work is exclusively focused on the social pillar of corporate social responsibility.

Sino-Vietnamese Relations in the Period of Economic Reforms
Vorel, Tomáš ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Kříž, Martin (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Sino-Vietnamese Relations in the Period of Economic Reforms" maps the development of Chinese and Vietnamese economics from the union of Vietnam in 1976, through the Sino-Vietnamese war conflict in 1979, and up to formal normalization of their relations in 1991. The emphasis here is placed on the economic reforms, which were introduced by both countries at that time. For China it meant the reform of the Four Modernizations, introduced after Mao Tse-tung's death. In Vietnam it was the economic reforms of renovation called "Doi Moi". The following text offers a view on their bilateral relations, taking into account the most important events that influenced these relations (war with Cambodia, influence of the USSR in Southeast Asia, the Chinese minority in Vietnamese territory, territorial conflicts in the South China Sea). Special attention is paid to the cross-border regions, which have served as a bumper for both the political and economic interests of both involved parties. The aim of this thesis is a historical bibliographical search of the relations in the time of diplomatic separation, and a comparison of the effects of the reforms that China and Vietnam introduced after long years of economic crisis.
