Pandemic: about war, oppression and other metaphors
Tikal, Matěj ; Dvořák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hájek, Martin (referee)
This thesis is based on analysis of metaphors, that were used by Czech political elite to construct meaning of Covid-19 pandemic and its implications for Czech society. Pandemic is firstly described as political problem and selected literature is used to describe pandemic discourse. Next, notion of social constructivism and conceptual theory of metaphors are introduced. Political rhetoric is conceived as conflictual and in common relation with public debate. Based on critical metaphorical analysis, this thesis revealed conflict between value of safety and freedom that was reflected in metaphors of war and oppression. This contest of metaphors can be used to interpret and explain some of the phenomena Czech society witnessed during Covid- 19 pandemic. This thesis shows that metaphors are valuable instrument for analysis of problems, that defy the possibility of being observed by instruments of everyday knowledge. This is why metaphor analysis can be deemed as useful tool for research of upcoming crises, which might emit similar level of abstraction, as Covid-19 pandemic.

No (geo)politics, just altruism: an analysis of the discourses by Serbia's political elite on the successful procurement of COVID-19 vaccines
Harmens, Hans Zdravko ; Žíla, Ondřej (advisor) ; Styczyńska, Natasza (referee)
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Serbian government procured COVID-19 vaccines before some of the more prosperous EU Member States could. From the Serbian government's perspective, this success was attributed to its "pragmatic" and "rational" policies. In essence, it leveraged competing geopolitical interests that the Serbian government has benefitted from. Nonetheless, it is through these geopolitical games that Serbia and its political elite have created a narrative that portrays Serbia as a bridge between the West and East. In light of this, this research seeks to understand to what extent these geopolitical discourses were incorporated into the discourses of Serbia's political elite and their transmission in the publications of Danas and Politika.

Čermák, Filip ; Pauknerová, Monika (advisor) ; Zavadilová, Marta (referee)
Rights of passengers in international air transport and the influence of COVID- 19 pandemic Abstract The thesis is devoted to the legal regulation of the relationship between passengers and air carriers in air passenger transport. The text is set in a general historical framework, which illustrates the rapid development of air transport from the 1920s to the present day, with special emphasis on the modern era. One of the aims of the study is to show how difficult it is for the legislator to respond to ongoing changes in the industry as well as unexpected events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The central theme is then the analysis of Regulation 261/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council, one of the most important pieces of legislation on the relationship between passengers and air carriers. The thesis presents the system of regulation enshrined in this Regulation, its strengths and weaknesses - taking into account the extensive case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union - and shows the impact of the above-mentioned pandemic in this area (the common cancellations of flights due to anti-epidemic measures led to frequent application of Regulation 261/2004 and to heated debates on some of the newly emerging controversial issues). It is pointed out that the problematic aspects of the...
