Comparison of Women in Politics with a Focus on Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic) and Germany

The bachelor thesis deals with the influence of women in politics during the period of the Weimar Republic and the first Czechoslovak Republic. Subsequently, it discusses the situation in the Czech Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany. Specifically, it focuses on the issue of granting women the right to vote and their low representation in the legislative bodies of selected countries. It also analyzes the fundamental reasons why the representation of women in politics is low and several solutions to how this persistent problem can be solved. In addition to important women not only in the Czech but also in the German political scene, it also mentions personalities who con-tributed to the emancipation of women in both countries.
Impact of internal disputes on the public support of CDU/CSU in the 19th term of office

This thesis deals with the issue of inter-party conflicts between the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU) and their perception in the German public. Both parties are conservative popular parties based on Christian values. Through the method of an interpretive case study, the thesis analyses the period in which conflicts between the parties peaked. It concerns Horst Seehofer's relationship with Angela Merkel and their opposing views on migration policy and the situation during the power struggle in the Union between Markus Söder and Armin Laschet. The timeframe of the thesis is the entire 19th parliamentary term, which lasted between 2017 and 2021. Using opinion polls and articles, or media accounts, the thesis analyses the rise or fall of public interest in these parties and the social discourse associated with these disputes.
Greta Thunberg, Fridays for Future and the German climate policy

The master thesis deals with the potential influence of Greta Thunberg and Fridays for Future on the development of discussions in the German Bundestag in 2018-2021. In August 2018, Greta Thunberg started protesting in front of the Swedish Parliament against the violation of the Paris Agreement. That was adopted at the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015 by all parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, committing them to take significant action to keep global warming below 1.5 řC. Other protesters began to join Greta, and already in September 2018, the international student movement Fridays for Future was established, organizing a climate strike every Friday. Through the analysis of the protocols from the sessions of German Bundestag, the thesis aims to find out how the person of Greta Thunberg, together with the protests of the Fridays for Future movement, was reflected in the German Bundestag during the global climate strikes. Among other things, the thesis aims to answer the question of whether and, if applicable, how the form of discussions on this topic changed between 2018-2021, and whether the activities of Greta Thunberg and the Fridays for Future had an impact on the development and importance of climate policy in Germany. Influence of German Bundestag Elections on the Stock Market Performance in Visegrad Group Countries

This thesis deals with the behaviour of stock markets during the period of election process. We focus on the influence of elections to the German Bundestag on stock market performance of the countries allied in Visegrad Group during the reference period 1994-2013 covering six Bundestag elections. Germany is a major export partner for all members of Visegrad Group - the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. We examine whether there are abnormal returns on stock markets in Visegrad Group countries around the date of German Bundestag elections. We thus examine if the fact that performance of German economy is important for performance of economies of countries allied in Visegrad Group means that Bundestag elections influences their stock markets. We also analyze the influence of elections to German Bundestag on domestic stock market during the reference period 1961-2013. To measure the effect of elections we employ event study methodology using the mean-adjusted return model to measure normal returns. Our event window consists of 65 trading days around the election day (-15,50). We use the estimation window of 100 days (-150,-51). Comparison of electoral systems of the Parliament of the CR and the Bundestag of FRG

The aim of this master thesis is to compare electoral systems of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany. Firstly, basic terms regarding substance and types of elections, suffrage and primary classification of electoral systems are briefly characterized with the help of literature. Secondly, electoral system of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, its form in the context of the political system of the Czech Republic as a whole, its development over time and its impact on the results of elections in the last twenty years is described in detail. Furthermore, the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany is analysed in the same way, too. At the end of this thesis, advantages and disadvantages of both electoral systems are compared and their possible changes are outlined. Electoral success of the Left Party in Germany at the federal and state level: the case of Hamburg

Zuzana Mjartanová Electoral success of the Left Party in Germany at the federal and state level: the case of Hamburg. Die LINKE is a new, radical left party in Germany, which established itself as a party of social justice, protest against capitalism and pacifism. Contrary to its predecessor, the party of democratic socialism - PDS, die LINKE got firmly rooted not only in East German states but also in the West, and thereby it guaranteed itself electoral support. This thesis examines the reasons for electoral success of die LINKE at federal level in the elections to federal parliament (Bundestag) in 2009, as well as success in state elections held in 2007-2011. This statement is supported by the chapter about the history and the current achievement of the party in Hamburg. At the beginning of the thesis, historical context is examined in order to compare the success of the party and its predecessors. The next part explains electoral results of the party and indicates main factors of the success: changed political, social and economic situation in Germany, transformation of party membership and electorate as well as the character of the party.
