Software for analysis of body surface temperature changes before and after exercise
Remenárová, Veronika ; Bernard, Vladan (referee) ; Vlk, Daniel (advisor)
This thesis focuses on creating an application software for monitoring and analyzing changes in body surface temperature before and after exercise test by the means of contactless thermography. Initial, theoretical part of this thesis talks about principles and possible scenarios, in which one could employ infrared thermography followed by physiology of the exercise load and concludes with an observation of the changes in body surface temperature while focusing on the actions that take place during the exercise test. Practical part of the thesis comprises of the exercise test and building of the application software for the analysis of the acquired thermographic visual output. The application software offers 2 kinds of analyses: general and under-load, while it aims to provide evaluation in both cases based on user-selected areas of interest. Last chapter of this thesis includes final output with commentary and eventual usage of the under-load experiment and application software in practical use.
Analysis of selected gene variants in athletes - runners at 400 m
Šplíchalová, Dominika ; Petr, Miroslav (advisor) ; Šteffl, Michal (referee)
Title: Analysis of selected gene variants in athletes - runners at 400 m Objectives: This work aims to find out what the genetic profile of athletes - runners at 400 meters, who are working in lactate mode, looks like. Methods: A cross-sectional investigation involved 203 East European Caucasian males and was conducted collaboratively at the FTVS UK and Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw (AWF Warsaw). The athletes, after a brief warm- up, participated in a single 30-second Wingate test. DNA samples were collected non-invasively through saliva swabs. Lactate levels were measured using an invasive approach. Results: In the polymorphisms rs4646994 gene ACE was found to have a significant difference in genotypic (p = 0.001, x2 = 14.90) and allelic (p = 0.004, x2 = 8.52) frequencies between the overall athlete group and the controls. A notable difference in the ACE gene showed the comparison of the genotypes (p = 0.001, x2 = 13.66) and between the alleles (p = 0.003, x2 = 8.89) between the control group and elite athletes. The last statistically significant difference was observed among the genotypes (p = 0.03, x2 = 6.79) between the sub-elite athletes and the control group. When assessing the genotypic and allelic frequencies for the polymorphisms rs1815739 in the ACTN3 gene, we...
Methods of rapid weight loss used by czech combat sports athletes
Gregor, David ; Třebický, Vít (advisor) ; Kovařovic, Vojtěch (referee)
Title: Methods of rapid weight loss used by Czech combat sports athletes. Objectives: The aim of this research project was to determine the prevalence of rapid weight loss (RWL) methods and their specific forms in Czech combat sports athletes. Methods: To determine the use of the methods of rapid weight loss (RWL) we used a purpose- built online questionnaire that was distributed via social media. This research project was open to men and women over the age of 18 who were actively competing in combat sports in the Czech Republic. Although only certain data from men were used for this project. Results: We found, that 94,7 % of participants reduce their body weight before competitions. This reduction then averages 5.33 kg (SD = 3.42) of body weight. The most commonly used methods to reduce weight across combat sports athletes included reducing energy intake (59,1 %), water loading (38,1 %), restricting fluid intake (33,3 %) and more conditioning (28,6 %). The research sample consisted of 373 Czech high profile athletes and 240 non-athletes. In Czechia, no studies on this topic have been published so far. Therefore, this paper tries to offer some perspective.
Patterns of chewing tobacco and nicotine pouches usage among athletes: an online survey
Šatochinová, Kristýna ; Kulhánek, Adam (advisor) ; Jandáč, Tomáš (referee)
BACKGROUND: Nicotine is one of the most commonly used addictive substances amongst the general population. Nonetheless, there is not much information on the use of chewing tobacco or nicotine pouches, even more so when it comes to studies concerning athletes. AIMS: The goal of this work was to map out the patterns of using chewing tobacco and nicotine pouches amongst athletes, specifically American football players and ice hockey players. METHODS: Quantitative questionnaire research was carried out with the help of the online tool Survio. The questionnaire was distributed through members of selected sports teams, American football and ice hockey, coaches, or team emails. RESULTS: 219 respondents took part in the study, of them, 114 were American football players and 105 were ice hockey players. Out of the 219 respondents, 65 of the 114 American football players (57%) and 53 of the ice hockey players (53%) have used chewing tobacco. While 49 American football players and 43 ice hockey players have used nicotine pouches. On average, respondents encountered chewing tobacco at the age of 19, and nicotine bags at the age of 21. The research also found that 21 of the 65 American football players (33%) and 19 of the 53 ice hockey players (36%) that use chewing tobacco do so on a daily basis. For nicotine...

Fitness center clients nutrition focused on protein and magnesium intake
Pajič, Barbora ; Vilikus, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Petráková Doležalová, Radka (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the importance of protein and magnesium in the diet of recreational visitors to fitness centers. Excessive protein intake at the expense of other macronutrients is a very common phenomenon in the fitness sector. Magnesium is an important element for muscle regeneration and its deficiency can have a negative effect on weight reduction and muscle gain, leading to fatigue and cramps, which many athletes encounter. As visits to the fitness center become more and more popular nowadays, it is important that athletes are not subject to misleading and confusing information from the internet and look for proven sources. The aim of the diploma thesis was to compare eating habits, especially protein and magnesium intake, in two groups of people divided according to the frequency of training in the fitness center. This work is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with nutrition in the fitness industry in general, but more attention is focused on proteins and magnesium. Quantitative research using a questionnaire survey was chosen for the practical part of the work. A total of 30 respondents participated in the research, divided into two groups - athletes and non-athletes. Non-athletes were considered to be those who have two or fewer workouts per...
