The main objective of this thesis is to assess whether the arms embargo from 1989 removal is an option for the European Union. The paper is divided into two major chapters. The first chapter introduces the theoretical framework of EU sanction policy and restrictive measures. Also, the timeline and reasons for the embargo imposition are described. The second one examines Sino-European relations in terms of political discourse and especially arms trade because both are connected with the topic of the arms embargo. The approaches towards the embargo of all actors are also discussed.

Arms trade after year 2000

This bacherol thesis deals with arms trade and transfers between years 2001 and 2015. The main objective of this thesis is to formulate possible future development of the arms trade.The first two chapters are devoted to the most important actors of arms trade and possible reasons which cause high degree of demand in selected regions. Last chapter describes possible future development of arms trade.

Influence of the military-industrial complex on the making of foreign policy of the state

The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the degree of influence of the military-industrial complex on the foreign policy decision-making process of the state by examining the examples of certain countries with a large and developed defense industry. In terms of this thesis there were analyzed the contemporary trends in global military expenditures and the dynamics of the global arms transfers. A critical point is evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of the extensive investing in the military-industrial complex of state.

Trade in military material: the Czech and Slovak law perspective

This thesis focuses on the mutual comparison of the Czech and Slovak legislation in field of international trade in military material and its purposes is to identify which one of the legislations is more arms businessmen friendly in terms of legally-administrative costingness. The paper consists of three main parts. The first part is dedicated to the theoretic frame of the legal regulations in question with emphasis on the private international law. It contains the definitions of the well-known terms such as arms, trade in arms or military material. The second part focuses on international legal basics of the issue in question with respect to the most noted international treaties or key European regulation forming core of the trade in military material. The third part of the thesis compares the acts on international trade with military material in the Czech and Slovak Republic.

Defence Expenditures in Western Countries: Panel Data Analysis

The purpose of this thesis is to examine main determinants of military expenditures of NATO members and other Western countries. These determinants are identified and their relations with military expenditures analyzed using regression analysis on an unbalanced data panel of 30 countries during the period 1969-2011. "Military burden' - share of defense expenditures on country's GDP - is used as the explained variable. Explanatory variables include main economic indicators - GDP per capita, population, economic growth, indebtedness etc. - as well as several variables related to security (e.g. the level of threat posed by the Soviet Union) or politics (ideological orientation of the government). The question of behavior within a military alliance (contribution versus free-riding) is also taken into account. The main findings are that there are significant structural differences between major military powers - the US, France and the UK - and the rest of the Western world, and similar differences appear to exist between the Cold War and the post-Cold War periods. Furthermore some evidence is provided for the commonly held belief that smaller NATO members are essentially free-riding on the protection provided by few major powers (especially the US). Legal limits of the cross-border movement of military materials

Legal limits of the cross-border movement of military materials The global trade with military materials is an important, however often under- researched, area of academic enquiry. Such attitude is not correct, because in fact it is a massive global industry in which also Czech companies play a significant role. Given the newspaper headlines and statements of arms dealer, it is obvious there have long been unsolved problems burdening arms dealers caused especially by an inappropriate legal framework. This theses aims to provide an analysis of legal framework in respect to cross-border movement of military materials covering especially European and Czech legislation focusing on its potential limits arising and important for arms dealers. On a global international level the Arms Trade Treaty and other relevant treaties regulating international trade with military materials are identified and described. Attention is also paid to limitations of arms trade such as embargoes or restrictive measures imposed by the UN and the EU respectively as well as to limitations resulting from domestic and European legislation or from its different interpretation. Ethical dimension of New Labour's foreign policy, 1997-2001: the case of international trade in arms

The aim of this thesis is to examine two main hypotheses, which are closely related to the ethical dimension that was for the first time introduced in 1997 by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robin Cook. Firstly, the work seeks to explore whether New Labour fulfilled obligations relating to its ethical dimension. These commitments are determined by the Western world's generally accepted values such as freedom, tolerance, democracy and justice. They are also determined by government statements and speeches. Secondly, the work is trying to determine whether the implemented policy differed from that of the previous administration of Conservative Party. The fulfillment of these hypotheses is examined in the area of the international arms trade. The time is defined by the first term of the Labour Party government between the years 1997 and 2001. Since the work deals with a large number of primary sources its basic method is analysis.

Analysis of arms equipment export from Skoda Works Company to Yugoslavia in 1930s

The history of Czechoslovakia and his position played a key role in developement of weapon industry in the interwar period. Arms industry in Czechoslovakia in interwar period was represented mainly by Skoda Works Company. The 1930s ment for arms industry economic instability, but on the other hadn, it represented new opportunities as well. Weapon industry was strongly influenced by condition of economy of theirs business partnes from Little Entente and by political situation in neighboring countries. Business plans of Skoda Works company were lagrely influenced by czechoslovak gowernment. Gowernment of Czechoslovakia was using its economic policy as a part of its foreing affairs policy to strenghten role of Czechoslovakia as a leader of Little Entente. On the contrary, Skoda Works were using czechoslovak foreing policy for their own economic expansion to foreing markets.

World trade with arms

The aim of thesis is to create a complete overview of the current developments and trends in the world trade with arms. After reading this document, the reader will get a full picture about the subject of the trade with arms, global military spending, latest trends, regulation of trade with arms, Czech Republic's position in the world trade with arms and the situation on three particular markets in South America. The outcome of this study is an answer to the question whether the analyzed markets offer opportunities for the Czech importer of small arms and whether they are suitable for Czech import. The thesis works with the analysis of the current situation and development of the arms trade and therefore the long-term historical development is not mentioned.

The issues of arms trade (Mexico-USA)

The Master's thesis deals with the issues of the arms trade between Mexico and USA, focusing on the arms trafficking. The first chapter introduces the topic in general and analyzes the current situation of the world market in small arms and light weapons. The second and third chapter describe the characteristics of arms trade and its legislative framework in both countries - USA, Mexico - define local specifics and identify main trading partners. Bilateral trade in SALW between USA and Mexico, its process and practice how the trading takes place, is described in fourth chapter. The impact of arms trade on both countries is defined in the fifth chapter together with designed proposals to help to restrict illegal arms trafficking between partners and to reduce its negative impacts.
