New laboratory exercises in OMNeT++ network simulator

Diploma thesis deals with creating four laboratory tasks using simulation tool OMNeT++ and Inet Framework extension. Subject matter of these designed tasks is focused on routing protocols, providing quality of service, computer networking technologies used in local area networks and comparison of active networking devices. First task contains the comparison of behaviour and routing techniques between protocols RIPv2 and OSPFv2, including the effect of dividing OSPF network into smaller areas. Second task is focused on various techniques for controlling quality of service, namely FIFO queue, PQ and WFQ. Main goal is the comparison of results, that define quality of network services. Third task compares networking technologies, Ethernet and WLAN, parameters of transmission. Fourth task offers comparison of networking devices, hub, switch and router. This paper also contains required theory of network technologies and software tools used for executing simulations.

"The American Way Is a Hideous Monster:" The Portrayal of American Society in the Poetry of Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Amiri Baraka and Chen Chen

This bachelor thesis deals with the portrayal and criticism of American society in the poetic works of twentieth and twenty-first century poets, namely Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Amiri Baraka and Chen Chen, focusing predominantly on the style of the depiction and issues addressed in the selected poems. The objective of this thesis is to determine some of the principal topics of their social critique and show the impact the historical context had in the composition of their poems and on the commentary contained therein. Selected poems of each author are analyzed separately to point out the notions that are unique to their portrayal and to show that despite differences in personalities and historical periods, certain issues of the United States are discussed and continue to be discussed by poets from both the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The thesis demonstrates, however, that specific social and racial circumstances, together with historical context, inform each poet's writing, showing that the poets of the twentieth century pose different questions from the poets of the twenty-first century even as their opinion of American society as a whole remains critical.

The Impact of September 11 on US Foreign Policy

The September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States of America had a significant impact on US foreign policy and security standards worldwide. Before the attacks, President Bush paid little attention to foreign policy, even in his election campaign and public speeches. After the attacks, foreign policy, and the war on terror as part of it, became a major concern of the Bush administration. The production of weapons of mass destruction by non-democratic regimes in the Middle East and their links to terrorist activities were identified as a major threat to the security of the United States. The democratisation of the Middle East and the peace in the region became the priorities of the US global policy. This paper is qualitative historical research and it examines the changes in US foreign policy after the attacks. It describes the differences and similarities in US foreign policy in periods before and after the attacks, the use of force against Afghanistan and Iraq, and cooperation between the USA and international organizations, such as NATO and the United Nations, on countering the terrorist threat. Participation of the Executive and Legislative on War Powers After 9/11

The subject of this thesis is a resolution titled "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists" and its importance regarding the matter of war power of the President of the United States. This resolution was proposed by the President George W. Bush immediately after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, and Congress passed it with haste. It vested broad war powers in the President to the war on terrorism without the necessity of consulting Congress. This thesis' aim is to evaluate the importance of this resolution in the ever-evolving discussion about the participation of the executive and legislative branches on war powers. The thesis also analyzes the legality and legitimacy of the resolution according to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers' intentions while creating it. This thesis addresses these issues through analyzing diverse interpretations of the Constitution, statements made by the Framers of the Constitution, and through examination of the development of war powers in the second half of the 20th century.

Analysis of September 11, 2001 terrorist attact impacts on the United Kingdom foreign policy

Main theme of submitted thesis is the analysis of the impact of terroristic attacks 9/11 on the foreign policy of the United Kingdom. The impact is evaluated in three fields. The first one is the "special telationship" with the United States and how it changed with the accession of the prezident George W. Bush and followinf "war on terror". The second area of focus is the relationship of the UK with the rest of continental Europe. The last one is the so called ethical dimension of New Labour's foreign policy and the intervencionism. The events of 9/11testified the importance of foreign policy even for the Great Britain, in that time embodied in the figure of prime minister Tony Blair. Tony Blair is certainly one of the most influential politics in British history since Second World War. His worldviews and ideas shaped the direction of British foreign policy. Blair lived with notion of his country serving as an imaginary bridge connecting both the Europe and the USA. However the later geopolitical development prove this idea unreal. The main reason was the Iraq. The invasion also showed that the special relationship between the UK and the USA does not exist anymore and that Britain has to search for a new place in the post-cold war world.

Uprising in Libya: "The Al-Jazeera Effect"

The bachelor thesis Uprising in Libya: "The Al-Jazeera Effect" uses a quantitative analysis to examine the relationship the Czech printed media has towards the Arab news network Al Jazeera. The preliminary theoretical part is divided into three sections. In the first section, the author presents Al Jazeera as an important actor in the regional and global television news market. The second section summarizes the findings about two interesting phenomenons that aren't unanimously accepted by academic literature - the so called "CNN effect" and the "Al Jazeera effect". The third section then reflects on the current quantitative research that deals with Al Jazeera's news coverage. The core of this thesis rests solely on the quantitative research. The author focused on key events that could be expected to increase the references to the Al Jazeera network. Therefore, the thesis examined two twelve month periods in which international news outlets informed of the events related to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11th 2001, and of the development of anti-regime uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa collectively labeled as the Arab Spring in 2011. 'Special relationship' between the United Kingdom and the United States and renascence of their relationship after September 11, 2001

Diploma thesis 'Special relationship' between the United Kingdom and the United States and renascence of their relationship after September 11, 2001, deals with the special Anglo-American relationship in past and present. Both countries share common history, common language and threads of cultural heritage. The United States maintains close economic and military relationship with the UK. US military and intelligence cooperation in its current form dates back to the World War II and it was rooted in the doctrine of anti-Soviet Containment. US-UK 'special relationship' was widely seen as likely to expire with the end of the Cold War, but was revived following the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on the United States. Particular emphasis in explaining the renascence of the 'special relationship' in the world changed by terror is placed on the role of Prime Minister Tony Blair and his relationship to President George W. Bush.
