Vidímová, Sára ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (advisor) ; Pohorský, Aleš (referee)
The aim of my thesis is to observe and to analyse one of Balzac's characters who appears mainly in The Human Comedy. Eugene Rastignac's character changes in the course of novels. And the change is caused by his environment and also by the surrounding characters. Concerning the methodological part of my work, I use two Czech theorists who deal with the typology of characters (František Všetička, Bohumil Fořt). I will try to choose relevant fragments of Balzac's novels where I will describe change of the character. At the end I point out the future development of the subject and also the actual usage of Rastignac's fate as a pattern of ambitious young man.

Jewish Condition as Image of Marginalization
Pavlíková, Kristina ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
The theme of this bachelor thesis is the life and literary work of Jacques de Lacretelle, a French literature figure of the 20th century. Its aim is to expound his extensive work which is nowadays almost forgotten. The thesis focuses mainly on Lacretelle's vision of the Jews as described in his two novels- Silbermann and The return of Silbermann. Based on the detailed analysis the thesis tries to understand the reasons of choosing the Jewish motif for Lacretelle's work and personal connotations in it. Lacretelle's life and work is studied in comparison with a Czech author called Ladislav Fuks. We shortly introduce this writer, main events of his life connected with his literary work and his unique style of writing based on the method of substitute literary themes. This approach is subsequently applied on Lacretelle's writings and gives us a new point of view of them. Also we try to compare the series about Silbermann with Fuks's short-story anthology called Mí černovlasí bratři. At the end we draw a comparison between Lacretelle and Fuks and try to discover resemblances in their lives and works. This enables to understand their motives to choose the Jews as the main characters of their writings, probably connected mainly to their feeling of non-acceptance caused by their homosexuality. Černá, Eva ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
Surrealistic Moments in Raymond Queneau's Novels The objective of this thesis is to study the connection between Raymond Queneau's novels and surrealism. Raymond Queneau was part of the surrealistic group for only a relatively short time and after he left it, he fully rejected the surrealistic movement and concentrated his literary output in another direction. Nevertheless, there are surrealistic moments to be found in his work, on which this thesis will focus. The thesis contains a brief characterisation of surrealism as a literary movement and a basic overview of Raymond Queneau's life and the structure of his works. Special focus is given to the part of the author's life when he was active in the surrealistic group. The thesis further studies the period of time when Raymond Queneau was no longer part of the surrealistic group and when he turned his attention to completely different literary aspects of his production and participated in the work of other literary groups, whose methods differed substantially from the methods of surrealism (Oulipo); special focus is given to the significant aspects of the author's output, i.e. emphasis on the literary form, structure and order of his works. The main focus of the thesis is to study the surrealistic moments in Raymond Queneau's novels, which occur in his...
Typology of characters in Daniel Pennac's hexalogy about Benjamin Malaussène
Lukešová, Anna ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (advisor) ; Pohorský, Aleš (referee)
The present study seeks to analyze the procedures used for the description of characters in six novels by Daniel Pennac: The Scapegoat (Au bonheur des ogres, 1985), The fairy gunmother (La fée carabine, 1987), Write to Kill (La petite marchande de prose, 1989), Monsieur Malaussène (Monsieur Malaussène, 1995), Des chrétiens et des maures (1996) and Passion Fruit (Aux fruits de la passion, 1999). Methodologically, it is based on the theory of direct definition and indirect representation of characters by Bohumil Fořt (Literární postava: vývoj a aspekty naratologických zkoumání, 2008) and on František Všetička's typology of characters (Tektonika textu. O kompoziční výstavbě české prózy třicátých let 20. století, 2001). The study shows that the author prefers indirect representation - he lets his characters' actions and utterances speak for them. In the analysis of the character-types that are present in the novels, we have discovered that the author likes to represent many classical types, but he tries to add a twist to them. The work also focuses on the themes that are brought into the text by the characters of the hexalogy: the relations between siblings and the representation of femininity, old age and mourning. The last chapter deals with the inspector Van Thian character, the way it is described...

Balcarová, Eva ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (advisor) ; Hrbata, Zdeněk (referee)
DOMINIQUE VIVANT DENON - FROM TRAVELS IN ITALY TO THE LOUVRE MUSEUM. TOWARD A TYPOLOGY OF THE 18TH CENTURY TRAVELOGUE. Keywords: travelogue, 18th century, libertine culture, Italy, Egypte, Napoleon, Louvre. Number of characters: 121 846 (68 pages) The present thesis, Dominique Vivant Denon - From travels in Italy to the Louvre Museum is divided into two parts. The first one is a monograph on baron Vivant Denon, an important figure of the cultural life in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the author of Point de Lendemain, two travelogues, Voyage dans la Basse et la Haute Égypte and Voyage en Sicile, but, primarily, Napoleon's advisor in the field of fine art and the first director of The Louvre. The introductory pages of the thesis deal with the reception of Denon's works. There is a certain flux in the perception of Denon's oeuvre which has given rise to a range of interesting issues. One of them, the popularity of the libertine culture of pre-revolutionary France in the second half of the twentieth century, accounts for the fact that the novella Point de Lendemain is today the best known piece among Denon's extensive and multifaceted writings. A shift in the perception of the travelogue as a literary genre in our time, when the remotest of places are accessible in hours, may be...

Dvořáková, Tereza ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis "Raymond Radiguet's place in the French novel of the 1st half of the 20th century" is to discuss the life and work of this writer. Despite the fact that Raymond Radiguet died very early in age of twenty, he managed during last four years of his life to create two collections of poetry, a drama and especially two novels. These novels became noticeable on the field of not only the French but also the worldwide psychological literature. Radiguet overtook many other writers by the maturity of his work and by his competence to analyze deeply the psychology of his novel's characters. This work is focused on the important moments of Radiguet's childhood and adolescence and also on the relationships with the artists of his era just as the way they influenced the young writer. Moreover, it looks into his journey from the very firsts texts to his two masterpieces The Devil on the Flesh (Le Diable au corps) and The Count's bal (Le bal du comte d'Orgel). These two novels will be analyzed according to the point of view of their theme and structure. We then mention also the question of autobiography in these novels. This part is well recognizable particularly in The Devil on the Flesh. The final consideration presents the confrontation with the close context of the contemporary...

This work deals with Aimé Césaire's book Cahier d'un retour au pays natal, its function a value for author himself and for reader. At first, the paper explains, using linguistic and semantic analysis of chosen passages of this book, the liberation of author from the literary conventions and forms of his time, the quest of authentic style and his own poetic language. In the first part, the influence of french literature on Césaire's creation, precisely of Lautréamont, Rimbaud, Baudelaire, is explained. Afterwards, the work focuses on the emancipation tendencies which consist in the organic incorporation of the surrealistic practices and of creole influence into his poetry. In the second part, the paper attempts to give a description of author's determination to liberate the oppressed people, by the society, and his seeking of a new identity, based on omitted history of this people, on his ancestors and mainly on his forgotten roots. In the first place, indirect influence of the colonialism: his cruelty, enslavement, Triangular trade on Césaire's literary creation is described. The aim is to show the attitude of the author to the suffering of slaves and how he describes it to the reader and how he uses his heroes to accuse the colonialism of his cruel and usually atrocious practices to regain proud for his people.
