Gender stereotypes in videos on the 5-Minute Crafts channel
Stehlíková, Lucie ; Fousek Krobová, Tereza (advisor) ; Vochocová, Lenka (referee)
The status of men and women has evolved in recent decades, nonetheless, society still employs gender stereotypes to simplify its perception of the world. Often, it directly considers them as natural or necessary and associates them with sexual differentiation. Media can reflect or participate in reinforcing this idea by presenting women and men in different ways and in a limited range of roles. This thesis aims to reveal the prevalence of gender stereotypical depictions in life hack videos on the 5-Minute Crafts YouTube channel. To analyse this material, the paper uses as a starting point the research on the analysis of television advertising, which is one of the most frequent areas of gender stereotyping in broadcasting. Although it is not watched on demand by the audience, it is nevertheless consumed - even with the values it contains. Through a quantitative content analysis, this paper focuses on 40 randomly selected compilations from 11 playlists of the 5-Minute Crafts channel to evaluate individual videos utilizing the mini-drama format. Based on the results of the analysis, the thesis assesses the presence of stereotypes related to the genders under study and the most frequent areas affected by the stereotypes, as well as the frequency of phenomena that contradict gender expectations.
Antisemitic memes on 4chan.org
Feistinger, Aleš ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
In my thesis I address three questions: 1. What are the principles of memes? 2. What categories of anti-Semitic memes can we identify on 4chan.org? And 3. how do they relate to existing knowledge about anti-Semitic propaganda? To answer the first question, I review current theories ranging from active audiences, through Internet memes, to the interaction of memes and politics. Furthermore in the theoretical section, I describe the website 4chan.org (including its boards /b/ and /pol/) and the current form of anti-Semitism on the Internet. For the research of the second question, I have identified semiotic analysis, complemented by grounded theory, as the most appropriate methodology. I present its methodology and practical use, followed by presenting results including subcategories and illustrative examples. The thesis concludes by integrating the most important findings into current knowledge and anti-Semitism and thus answering the third research question. Finally, the main findings are summarized.

Gender Equality, Biathlon and Media: An Analysis of Media Production
Gerth, Lisa ; Numerato, Dino (advisor) ; Vochocová, Lenka (referee)
Women are significantly underrepresented in sports. This is primarily because for many centuries it was forbidden for women to participate in sports. Today, women are allowed to take part in numerous sports and in major events such as the Olympic Games. Nevertheless, a male hegemony prevails in sports, which is expressed especially in media production. Biathlon represents one of the sport disciplines in which women and men operate on an equal footing. The goal of this paper is to analyze the media production processes in biathlon, concerning the gender issues. The research was conducted with qualitative interviews with sports journalists and athletes and analyzed with grounded theory. Data analysis shows that journalists do not address the issue of gender equality in biathlon coverage. They primarily report on the sporting success of the athletes, regardless of gender. This also means that hardly any women-specific topics are addressed. The interviewed journalists are gender-blind in their work. There is rather a marginalized equality of men and women. Especially female athletes and female journalists point out that the sport of biathlon and the media production about it can further improve in terms of gender equality.
Representation of voluntary childlessness in online media
Veselovská, Jana Emilie ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Supa, Markéta (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the media representation of voluntary childlessness. Published studies frame the issue of voluntary childlessness from a sociological or psychological point of view; in the media context, this topic is not much represented. As the existing media analyzes focused on print media, this work is focused on a different type - online media. The topic of voluntary childlessness is still perceived as controversial in society and social norms play a part in this. Although the concept of family and parenthood has evolved considerably, entrenched norms of parenthood still persist, as previous studies have shown. The media are an integral part of our daily lives, influencing our thinking and the way we look at the world around us, and they can strengthen or weaken these norms. The aim of this work is to map how the media represent voluntary childlessness and how they portray voluntary childless people.

The thesis deals with a compare of media image of Topolanek, Fischer and Necas government in periodical Tyden. I took two aims - first, to find out if any opinion inclination or political orientation is expressed in articles about Czech governments published in the periodical Tyden, second, to compare media image of all three governments among themselves and to trace potential differences. The theoretical section focuses on objectivity and bias, construction and representation. Substantial part of the theory is comprised of specific political communication and mediatisation together with trends in this field recognized in last decades. The empirical section is composed by quantitative analysis that compares representative articles and it is added by an content analysis of front pages of the periodical Tyden. Regardless of a fact, that the Jan Fischer government was very popular in public, the media picture of this particular government is rather negative comparing others. On the contrary there were found specific features showing that the Mirek Topolanek government was pictured more substantially. In generally the periodical Tyden uses negativity and stereotypes in articles about governments but in no case this is a predominant procedure of media products construct. The media picture of last three...
