Hlavoňová, Kateřina ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Sloboda, Zdeněk (referee)
The comparison of ČT1 and TV Nova evening newscasts from a gender perspective Study is focused on the comparison of ČT1 (Události) and TV Nova (Televizní noviny) evening newscasts from a gender perspective. In my diploma thesis I follow some feminist studies that were done mainly in the anglo-american context - I try to verify if western theories about androcentrism in television newscast are valid in the czech context. My study is primarily based on the quantitative content analysis of the news - I am interested in aspects like gender inequality, representations of men and women (alternatively of transgender people), gender roles, gender stereotypes (reproduction or subversion) and reflection of the feminist thought by these media. The main aim of reasearch is to compare evening newscasts of leading czech public television (ČT1) and leading czech commercial television (TV Nova) - I try to find out if the commitment of public service has an influence on the gender aspects of these newscasts.
Sexual education through the eyes of two generations
Kothajová, Martina ; Sloboda, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Štípková, Martina (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the problems of sex education in a family and at school. In a theoretical part in introduces a definition of sex education and historical development in the Czech Republic since 1948 and further discusses its subject, methods, goals and obstacles of sex education in the institutions mentioned above. In the empirical part it presents a view of my communication partners representing two generations on the definition of sex education, the process of their own sex education and the idea of an ideal process of sex education in light of age and the depth of provided information. The research shows that they by the term sex education they understand especially those aspects that are related to one's sex life, e. g. organs of reproduction, contraception, sexual adolescence and pregnancy. According to the communication partners, the first information about sex education mediates especially school, but in an ideal case, it should be the family. That indicates the differences between the real process of sex education and the ideal case, which is also mentioned by the specialists. Even though there are still some imperfections in sex education both in a family and at school, a positive shift toward incorporation of sex education into a family environment can be seen.

Media image of adiposity in context of ideal body construction
Belušová, Dana ; Tuček, Milan (advisor) ; Sloboda, Zdeněk (referee)
The paper deals with the discrepancy between the increase of obesity on one side and the idealized body images presented in media on the other side. The current media discourse emphasizes the importance of slimness and the appearance which could cause body-image distortions and the body-dissatisfaction while trying to achieve unattainable ideal body. In this context I analyze the media image of adiposity in magazines of Vlasta, Cosmopolitan and Bravo. As the analysis showed Vlasta considers the age of its readers while coping with adiposity by the passive strategies. The magazine is not appearance schematic, because it doesn't construct the women's personality through the appearance. Cosmopolitan designs the adiposity as a ,,not desirable" and fights it by the active physical strategies. Their readers are however supplied with ambivalence messages when the clearly stated thin ideal is confronted by the magazine's support to the natural body. Bravo constructs active strategies in coping with adiposity, while setting the body ideal by the gender.
Nudity as a source of (moral) provocation
Polesný, Ondřej ; Hájek, Martin (advisor) ; Sloboda, Zdeněk (referee)
Bachelor thesis "Nudity as a source of (moral) provocation" deals with different reception of nudity. Nakedness in contemporary western culture, as a relationship between an unclothed body and the gaze of others, is variously legitimated through contexts of representation. For example, in the tradition of Old Testament nakedness cannot be disconnected from sexuality. A reference to biblical tradition (in the event of nakedness) is all the time more or less valid. Now, Nudity, sex and sexuality are discussed, coded and classified more than ever in contemporary culture through magazines, television, radio etc. It shows precisely how pervasive nudity, sex and sexuality are, and how easily it encroaches into areas previously considered non-sexual. I try to define areas in which is nakedness in conflict with specific notions, split contexts into classification and determine participants and their views of nakedness. Above all, I deal with conflict between nakedness and explicitly expressed morality. In my work, I exploit qualitative analyze of press - in the concrete I analyze articles of newspapers.
Gender and Profession
Herberová, Kamila ; Tuček, Milan (advisor) ; Sloboda, Zdeněk (referee)
This Bachelor Thesis, entitled "Gender and Profession", considers the current situation of women employed in professions and positions on the job market, which were held traditionally by men. The work also looks at the situation of men in so-called "feminine" professions. Although this topic is being increasingly discussed, the situation hasn't been solved yet. This work should serve as a deeper insight into this issue. It is based on an analysis of interviews carried out with representatives from the particular professions. Respondents answered questions concerning their studies in secondary education and higher (university) education, they described receiving interviews, and they also discussed their relationships in the workplace. They discussed issues regarding the planning of families, current situations in work, potential gender-related problems and so on. The respondents' answers showed an optimistic view regarding the problem of equality, because signs of discrimination did not appear. An alarming result was, however, found regarding the decision of whether to have children or not. In almost every case children were sidelined and assigned secondary importance. The professions researched were: architects, lawyers, doctors and teachers.
