Mapping of the availability of the Occupational Therapy for people with acquired brain damage in Prague and Central Bohemia
Babincová, Hana ; Svěcená, Kateřina (advisor) ; Sládková, Petra (referee)
As it is evident from the title, the main aim of this thesis is to map the availability of occupational therapy for people with acquired brain damage in Prague and the Central Bohemia region. The first half of the theoretical part focuses on causes, incidence and consequence of acquired brain damage. The other half deals with occupational therapy within this target group with a particular focus on methods of obtaining information (interview, observation, questionnaires) and standardized tests. The last chapter points out the situation of people with acquired brain damage in the Czech Republic. On one hand, the chapter describes the ideal course of rehabilitation and the common course of rehabilitation in the Czech Republic on the other. Another part of the thesis focuses on the research based on questionnaire survey among occupational therapists working with people after acquired brain damage. The next aim of the research was to determine the availability of individual components - local, time, financial and qualitative. BACHELOR THESIS ABSTRACT Author's first name and surname: Anna Chmelařová Bachelor thesis supervizor: MUDr. Petra Sládková, Ph.D. Oponent: Title of bachelor thesis: Options of Physiotherapy Approaches for Patients with Vertebral Algic Syndrome of Lumbar Spine using ICF Core Set Abstract: This bachelor thesis deals with options of physiotherapy approaches for patients with vertebral algic syndrome of lumbar spine as well as with the clinical appliacation of the International classification of functioning, disability and health (ICF) using the Brief ICF Core Set for Low Back Pain. This thesis contains of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part includes variety of causes of vertebral algic syndrome, basic information about epidemiology, etiology and time duration. Options of physiotherapy approaches which were used for patients chosen for this thesis are also described. Furthermore, the thesis uses the characteristic of the ICF and describes the Brief ICF Core Set for Low Back Pain, including the ratings of validity of this Core Set by two chosen studies. The practical part offers an overview of methodology of this thesis, in particular the data collection methods, patient selection, goals and assumptions of this thesis. It also contains case reports of three chosen patients inluding the Brief...
Sensory Assessment of the Upper Limb after Stroke
Červinková, Michaela ; Rodová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Sládková, Petra (referee)
The thesis is aimed at somatosensory assesment on upper limbs after the stroke. The main objectives of this bachelor's thesis are the retrieval, interpretation and practical field tests of the standardized somatosensory assesment. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part presents the basic information about the stroke, its after-effects and the role of occupational therapy in the process of rehabilitation. The thesis deals in more detail especially with the matters of sensory loss and their impact to ADL. The practical part presents the the brief description of the sought tests and the translation and interpretation of the selected assesment - Nothingham sensory assesment. The thesis provides the reader with results and the analysis of results of the somatosensory assesments through the use of Notingham sensory assesment, performed on the sample of ten pacients in the Regional Hospital Liberec and on the Clinic of Rehabilitation Medicine in Prague. From the obtained results of the practical assesments the conclusion has been drawn, that confirms the suitability of the selected standardized assessment - Notingham sensory assesment - for the ergotherapists in the Czech Republic.
Undergraduate occupational therapy education. Implementation of Problem Based Learning into the teaching of occupational therapy students.
Uhlířová, Jaromíra ; Vrzáček, Petr (advisor) ; Sládková, Petra (referee)
This thesis deals with Problem-Based Learning (PBL), which is almost unknown in the Czech Republic, and its application in the undergraduate course of occupational therapy. This method is widely used abroad particularly in the medical education and education of other paramedical professions. More traditional way of teaching is maintained in the Faculty of Medicine in the Czech Republic. A large amount of information from various scientific and clinical disciplines that student cannot simply connect in logical context is taught in the traditional courses. Problem-Based Learning is a method that may compensate some needs of the traditional teaching. This thesis introduces PBL and shows examples of its application in teaching occupational therapy abroad. The aim of this thesis is to determine the factors obstructing or facilitating the use of Problem-Based Learning method in the Czech Republic within the undergraduate occupational therapy curriculum, to determine the possibility of application of this method in teaching, to formulate recommendations for the implementation of PBL and to develop design of syllabus using PBL. To meet the objectives of the thesis semistructured interviews with faculty members of the occupational therapy studies at the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague...

Functional assessment of motor activities of patients after brain damage before and after intensive rehabilitation intervention (with the goal to obtain restoration of upper arm physiological functions)
Sládková, Petra ; Švestková, Olga (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Jaroslav (referee) ; Süssová, Jana (referee)
Rehabilitation of patients after brain damage is an multidisciplinary, complex, intensive, long- term and individual process. Standardized functional instruments for the assessment of the degree of disability and functional abilities of patients are not usually used in rehabilitation in the Czech Republic. Often, motor disorder post brain damage results in hemiparesis and causes impairment of upper arm movement pattern. Movement ability of the upper arm is vital for self-sufficiency, activities of daily life and maintaining an independent family life. Special rehabilitation therapeutic techniques must involve the training of new activities including the mechanism of motor learning which is responsible for functional reorganization of the motor cortex regions, and the activation of reserve neurons for reparation. The aim of the study is to demonstrate that an accelerometer is a suitable instrumet for objective monitoring of impairment of the upper arm movement pattern. Another aim of the study is to demostrate if the FIM test (Functional Independence Measures) and Jebsen-Taylor (JT) test are appropriate instruments for detecting changes of the upper arm movement pattern after intensive, individual and multidisciplinary rehabilitation brain damage patients. Clinical study was undertaken with selected...
