Game Theory for Gifted Secondary School Students
Skálová, Alena ; Hykšová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Staněk, Jakub (referee)
The thesis contains a textbook for gifted secondary school students. Its aim is to give to these students (or to their teachers) a Czech-written text covering fundamental principles in the field of game theory. In the first part we introduce the combinatorial games and some elementary methods of their solution. The second part is devoted to the game of Nim, to the Sprague-Grundy function and to the sums of the combinatorial games. It also contains a necessary introduction to the binary numeral system. In the third part we present the concept of matrix and bimatrix games. There is a lot of exercises and examples in the textbook. At the end we bring solutions to the most of them, providing the active reader with the opportunity of checking their own solutions.
The value of endoscopy of the salivary glands in the prevention of chronic disease
Hostička, Lubor ; Skálová, Alena (advisor) ; Slípka, Jaroslav (referee) ; Mazánek, Jiří (referee)
The author of this work deals with the problems of the sialolithiasis. He summarizes current knowledge of the etiology of the disease, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. There are described conventional therapeutic approaches, but the main part is dedicated to current practices which are used after the introduction of new technology-sialoendoscopy. The endoscopic technique is described in this work, the evaluation of its benefits, but also its limits. The author's efforts for conservative approach to the issue sialolithiasis, the exact localization of the sialith and extraction with preservation of the salivary gland is based on publications in the scientific literature. He documents this procedure with the resultes of his own research. There is evaluated using sialoendoscopy in treatment of the sialolithiasis in cases where the sialolith is located in hilum of the submandibular gland. This localization was in the past often an indication for extirpation of the submandibular gland. The author statistically rates files of extirpated submandibular glands in the author's workplace in two five-years periods. The first period is in the time when the sialoendoscopy is not used for examination and treatment of the sialolithiasis yet. In the second period the sialoendoscopy is available, there is also...
Gradient mapping of functions of several variables

Title: Gradient mapping of functions of several variables Author: Alena Skálová Department: Department of Mathematical Analysis Supervisor: doc. RNDr. Miroslav Zelený, Ph.D., Department of Mathematical Analysis Abstract: In the thesis we prove that the following statement holds true. For each d ≥ 2, for each open bounded set U ⊂ Rd and for each set F ⊂ Rd of the Borel class Fσ there exists an everywhere differentiable function u: Rd → R such that ∇u(x) ∈ U for all x ∈ Rd , ∇u(x) ∈ U for all x ∈ F, ∇u(x) ∈ ∂U for λd-almost all x ∈ Rd \ F.
Boland, McGuckian and Groarke: nature and the self in three contemporary Irish women poets
Skálová, Alena ; Wallace, Clare (advisor) ; Quinn, Justin (referee)
This thesis comprises historical and critical introduction to contemporary women's poetry in Ireland and close reading of three poets of its two latest generations, Eavan Boland, Medbh McGuckian and Vona Groarke. It focuses on her perception of nature and attitude to the relationship between the human self and natural processes and objects. The contextual background to my reading emphasizes the feminist critique of the traditional false images of the woman's self in Irish poetry and politics, and suggests new opportunities of the most recent female poetic voices. The culturally rooted simplifying or even harmful connection between femininity and the fertile land or Catholic ideals of virginity has provoked a lot of indignation among contemporary women poets, and caused abundant literary attempts of its re-negotiation. The authentic poetic representation of the woman's sexual and spiritual connection to the land and nature along with women's subjective use of nature imagery belongs to crucial points of this re-negotiation. It is pursued extensively in all of the poetesses discussed in this paper. My close reading considers the political objectives of the poems and notices different modes of their artistic response to the relevant cultural questions. Nevertheless, it emphasizes also the independence...
Magic numbers in metric spaces
Skálová, Alena ; Lukeš, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Veselý, Jiří (referee)
The main topic of this work is the Gross Theorem and its generalization - the Stadje Theorem. According to the Gross Theorem, for every compact connected metric space (X, d) there exists a unique magic number a(X, d) with the following property: For every finite set K ⊂ X there exists a point y ∈ X such that the average distance from y to K is a(X, d). The Stadje Theorem takes any real-valued continuous symmetric function f on X × X instead of a metric d. In this work we give a proof both of the existence and the uniqueness of the magic number from the Stadje Theorem. Examples of magic numbers in some particular metric spaces are presented. We also study the range of values which can a magic number attain, given some restrictions on the function f or on the space X. 1
The speech of nature and objects in the poetry of Medbh McGuckian
Skálová, Alena ; Wallace, Clare (referee) ; Quinn, Justin (advisor)
Before analysing the poetry of Medbh McGuckian, Michael Allen mentions different ways of reading poetry and suggests that in order to perceive the subterranean ways of imagery, "a complete understanding of a poem is not necessary".101 At that stage of reading, however, McGuckian may seem wilfully obscure, and only a reading aimed at the meaning of the poems proves the contrary. In closer readings Allen argues that we realize her "way of distancing us fruitfully",102 her sense that "dreams are part of reality", her "riddling translation of life into artefact, artefact into life"103 and other constraints for readers' interpretation of her poems. From Allen's point I wish to develop the link between the obscured meanings in McGuckian's verse and different ways of reading her poetry and conclude thus my observation of her work. During the introduction of my thesis I explained that I will not concentrate on individual themes within the poetry, but on the author's concept, her treatment of them, on her perception of the world. With different approaches to reading poems, the question about their meanings arises. Where should we look for the meaning of a poem, or should we strive to reach it at all? Answers to this question are different for different poets and different time. In McGuckian's case, I perceive the...
Correlation of morphologic and moleculargenetic features of selected tumors
Šíma, Radek ; Skálová, Alena (advisor) ; Boudová, Ludmila (referee) ; Ehrmann, Jiří (referee)
We present a series of 16 salivary gland tumors with histomorphological and immunohistochemical features reminiscent of secretory carcinoma of the breast. This is a hitherto undescribed and distinctive salivary gland neoplasm, with features resembling both salivary acinic cell carcinoma and low grade cystadenocarcinoma, as well as displaying strong similarities to breast secretory carcinoma. Microscopically, the tumors have a lobulated growth pattern and are composed of microcystic and glandular spaces with abundant eosinophilic homogenous or bubbly secretory material positive for PAS, mucicarmine, MUC1, MUC4 and mammaglobin. The neoplasms also show strong vimentin, S-100 protein, and STAT5a positivity. For this tumor we propose a designation mammary analogue secretory carcinoma of salivary glands (MASC). The 16 patients comprised 9 men and 7 women, with a mean age of 46 years (range 21-75). Thirteen cases occurred in the parotid gland, and one each in the minor salivary glands of the buccal mucosa, upper lip, and palate. The mean size of the tumors was 2.1 cm (range 0.7 to 5.5 cm). The duration of symptoms was recorded in 11 cases and ranged from 2 months to 30 years. Clinical follow-up was available in 13 cases, and ranged...
This Is Where We Live
Skálová, Alena ; MACHKOVÁ, Eva (advisor) ; BERGMAN, Aleš (referee)
Community theatre, site-specific theatre, and their plausible contribution to drama in education and children's or youth theatre are in the main focus of the thesis. It summarizes the roots and background of both of these fringe theatre paths, introduces their main objectives and representatives. A more detailed description of several community theatre groups and site-specific projects is also included. Apart from the theoretical introduction, the paper follows the individual principles and complex ideas within these two alternative theatre approaches from a practical perspective; it includes a structured project plan based on connection and mutual inspiration of community theatre, sitespecific and drama in education principles. The thesis also aims at capturing wider potential of fusion of these attitudes to theatre and the society, and suggests its contribution not only in the field of drama in education, but also within contemporary performing arts and community life in general.
