Olympic Games in Prague. Multicriterial feasibility assessment of three variants for the location of the central olympic park.

This thesis concerns the intention to stage the Olympic Games in Prague in the year 2016 or 2020. The theoretical part deals with proposed variants for location of the central Olympic park and their evaluation. The empirical part judges - with the help of a multicriterial analysis - three variants for the location of the central Olympic park. The analysis takes account of the most complex criteria, with an emphasis on protecting the environment in the given locality. There is a discussion of methods used and the selection of criteria for location of the park. The resulting evaluation of variants is compared and discussed with the decision of Prague City Hall on the selection of a locality in Letnany.
The Analysis of the Attitude towards Proposal of Waste Law and Estimation of Possible Impacts of this Law to the Citizens and the Environment

The aim of this study is to analyze and assess the expected impacts of the prepared new law on waste on citizens and environment with focus on an attitude of the two key experts concerned in discussion on the on-coming law. First part of the study is dedicated to a detailed description of the Czech legislation, especially the waste policy and the directive of the European Union. The aims of the law and means for their achievemnet are defined here too. The findings from the first part are discussed in the second part. If the new law will fit the Czech legislation and if it will help to achieve the aims is discussed subsequently.
Plan so plan you planner, sustainibility you never reach! Case study of strategic planning of city development of Ústí nad Labem

This thesis deals with description and evaluation of the case of strategic planning process in city Ústí nad Labem. The case is evaluated due to one criterion of sustainable development. The criterion is participation. The thesis is focused on participatory techniques used during the planning process in particular. It combines concept of governance with other sociological concepts of participation. Beside the description and the evaluation of used techniques the thesis focuses also on attitudes and beliefs of planning process participants with regard to idea of sustainable development and participation on planning and decision making. Theoretical part of the research displays the premises and knowledge in the field of participation and planning evaluation. It shows, the premises say that one condition of local sustainable development is using of participatory innovations in local governance. It describes diverse aspects of participation and possible evaluation criteria in particular. Analytical part uses knowledge and concepts of participatory process evaluators as a model for its own evaluation of the case of Ústí nad Labem. LETS Go? Local Exchange trade systems and their Benefit for Local Community Development in the Czech Republic

This thesis presents phenomenom of Local Exchange Trading Systems (LETS) in Czech republic. This thesis uses results of qualitative research made among administrators of individual systems. Data obtained from interviews are interpreted using methods of grounded theory. Central theme of this theory is the need of LETS and its contributions for studied communities. Studied systems unambiguously showed positive impact of LETS on creating of social relations and community building. Insufficiently there is developed economic level of LETS.In this course it seems, there are nowadays not ideal socio- economical conditions in the society for radically enlarging of LETS. It seems, there is not right time for LETS, but in the future it could be useful instrument of local developement. It was tested in several Czech and Slovak cases and each of them produced new piece of knowledge, that can be used in future. It can help to avoid of former faults and adapt to new conditions.
Henry David Thoreau and his Relation to Natural Science

This thesis examines Henry David Thoreu's connections and relations to natural science. It presents Thoreau in broader context of rapidly developing nineteenth century American science. It follows his career and development as a writer and naturalist, emphasizing the role of science in this development, and identifies some of his sources and possible influences. It is based on extensive study of Thoreau's writings, especially his Journal and recently published and relatively unknown late natural writings. It compares and interperts Thoreau's works in relation to modern ecological science and introduces Thoreau as a predecessor and pioneer of ecological science and its various disciplines.
Volunteerism and Subjective Quality of Life

The thesis is based on qualitative research of volunteers. I pursue a contribution volunteer works for subjectiv quality life. The main question is why human became volunteer and how it influence quality life.
